I’m your host, and this is the revised edition of A Guide to the World of Battling.
Whether you’re new to the site or simply looking for a new hobby, look no further! Battling is a fun and rewarding experience, bound to net you some nifty high scores and exclusive loot items, and in this guide, I will provide the basics of Subeta’s battle system and helpful advice for those looking to raise a battle pet.
We now have an official in-depth guide to battling, accessible in the Battle Coliseum link headings. However, I will still maintain the forum version of the guide, and I can even go more in-depth than what the official guide has. ;)

I'm not sure why my post's content is disappearing at times. Everything is still technically here when I go to edit the post, but why it doesn't stay, I've yet to figure out. I'm going to be away for a few days, but when I get back, I'll get to the bottom of the problem.
For now, if it disappears, I apologize for the inconvenience; it is really annoying for me too.

Got a question? Here's a list of some Q&A's regarding the BC! -----------------------------------------------
I haven't battled in a long time, but I'm getting back into it now. What's changed?
So far, the best compilation of what has occurred in the BC over the last 4 years can be found HERE
Where is the healer? Yeah, this is still a pretty common re-occurrence for users. The Healer can be found in the Sacred Lands, right outside the Sacred Lands Souk.

How do I know if an item is a weapon? Two ways; you can hover over the item and if you see "Tier:" listed, then that is a weapon! Alternatively, when clicking on items in your inventory, the options "Move to Armory" or "Equip to PETNAME" are available if it is a weapon.
Were do I mod my weapons? When you're in the armory, you should see the "Click here to modify your weapons." link above Your Weapons.
How do I know what tier my pet is? Two ways; you can add up your pet's Strength, Defense, Health, and Speed numbers, and check the list of tiers I have posted down in section 2 of this guide, to see which range your pet's total stats currently fall. ...or you can simply view all of your pets and their tier will be listed below their Intelligence stat. :p
Currently, the system has 13 tiers, T1 as your starting point and T13 (including capped pets) being the highest.
How do I advance my pet's tier? Train. This is the simplest, most effective means of advancing your pet's tier. There are other ways to increase your pet's stats, and as you read on, you'll begin to understand why training is easily the best method.
How far is my pet from reaching the next tier? Here is the ASAP breakdown from T1 all the way to T13:
Tier 1: 40 minimum (min.) Total Stats
Tier 2: 300 min. Total Stats
Tier 3: 600 min. Total Stats
Tier 4: 1,200 min. Total Stats
Tier 5: 1,800 min. Total Stats
Tier 6: 2,600 min. Total Stats
Tier 7: 3,400 min. Total Stats
Tier 8: 4,400 min. Total Stats Tier 9: 5,400 min. Total Stats Tier 10: 6,400 min. Total Stats Tier 11: 8,000 min. Total Stats Tier 12: 12,000 min. Total Stats Tier 13: 22,000 min. Total Stats
Simply subtract your pet's totaled stats from the minimum required amount for the next tier. For a more in-depth breakdown, scroll down to section 2 of this guide. :D
Hey, I did all of my quests earlier/doing my quests right now, but all of a sudden they've been reset/my quests still haven't been reset! What's going on? Most likely the cron is out-of-sync and anything that resets at midnight (quests, dailies, vending) will simply not happen.
What's a cron? Think of the cron like a cog in a clock. When everything is functioning normal, the cog runs smoothly along the others, and at midnight, all of your dailies and quests reset for the next day to be completed.
Occasionally, though, something may get caught in the cog or it gets out of rhythm with the other cogs, so when midnight hits, the reset doesn't happen. The clock is "stuck" on the day before and can't reset.
Fortunately, our admins can kick the clock to unstuck it for a while, and everything gets reset at a weird hour, like 9am. The unfortunate part is making sure the cron cog doesn't get stuck again, so the programmers make certain that the cron is functioning as it should, so occasionally multiple resets will be made throughout the day.
For battlers, all this really means is more BQs, thus more EXP to earn. More GY quests, more chances of getting mage amulets. And more Shinwa for more chances of getting her stat boosters. Reap the benefits!
What does INSERT STAT HERE do? Section 2 of this guide delves in deeper, but essentially, here's the breakdown.
Health: Your pet's endurance. If knocked down from 100 Hit Points (HPs) to 0 in a battle, your pet lost. Strength: Your attack power. Larger attack = more damage Defense: The opposite of attack. Larger defense = less damage dealt to your pet Speed: Corresponds with the critical hit system, and how quickly blessings/curses are activated. The least important of the main 4. Intelligence: Read lots of books to your pet, they'll get smarter. Smart enough to use another type of weapon, called Scrolls (more on that in section 3). Level: Even more useless than Speed. Only useful for determining which stats you can train at the center, and how much the training session will cost.
Where can I find a list of good weapons for my pet's tier? My friends , and I worked very hard to compile a list of the site's best weapons, and you can find it here: The Weapon Guide
What's a stat cap? As of May 2015, the current stat cap is a 35k total stats. Level and Intel DO NOT count towards the cap.
How can I find out what rank my pet is? It is that floating number to the far right of your pet's name. It will not have the word "rank", it'll simply be a random number. That number tells you where your pet's overall stats (includes intel and level) ranks compared to the total number of pets existing on the site.
My 100% healer did not work! There are three possible reasons for this:
1.) The opponent you're fighting has healing disabled (this is discussed further in section 4.1). 2.) Your opponent did more damage than your 100% healer covered. (if your pet has 450 total HPs healed back, and your opponent does 990 damage, that means 540 damage still got through and killed your pet despite using the 100% heal) 3.) You simply forgot to or didn't click to use it that turn. Check to the left of the battle text to see which weapons you've used that turn, as well as your damage and healing output.
My pet is not showing up in the dropdown list when I go to the challenge page. First, make sure the pet you want to battle with is fed, happy and not at 0 HPs. For conveniences sake, simply put your battle pet(s) in the resort to keep them fed for 21 days, give them a minion to keep them happy all the time, and use the healer as mentioned above.
If your pet is healthy, well-fed and happy, then check to see if they're already in a battle. It's very easy to walk away from a battle and forget it. I've done it before. You can check here, under the Statistic's Page.
Finally, if you just received your pet from a friend, there is a 30-day waiting period before you can battle with it. It's a preventive measure to keep people from transferring/abandoning pets nonstop, aka lending out, for events. (However, lending and borrowing weapons is allowed!)
Occasionally, if you've just lost in a fight and quickly heal your pet, your pet may not appear on the Choose Weapons page when you go to fight the opponent again. Clear your cache and do a hard refresh (ctrl+F5). Sometimes the site lags, and it may take up to a minute for the site to catch up.
If your pet is healthy, full, and not in a battle, then File a Ticket. The UA's are super nice, and can figure out why your pet is stuck.
Special notice: If you use Malerias Clawed Glove in battle, it has a chance of making your other pets (the ones not in battle) hungry/depressed or knock them down to 0hp.
I have more questions, but I don't see it listed here. You can always ask around the battle forum if you're still confused, or you can check the in-depth guide's larger FAQ.
2.1 - Training Your Pet How to get a strong pet -----------------------------------------------
The best and most efficient method in raising a battle pet is training. Consistent training pays off; it is possible to get a Tier 4 or 5 in a few months, and a Tier 8 or 9 in less than a year! Even if you don’t plan on being a full time battler, it doesn’t hurt to just invest a little time; considering the amount of events Subeta has per year, usually including baddies for battlers to beat up, having a trained pet can net you some unique, exclusive wearables, minions and other various rewards. ;)
There are several ways to train your stats, but the best and most reliable way is the Training Center in Riverside, as seen here...
The center’s instructor, Jim, will train any pet for a small fee. After all, physical fitness is important!
Jim can train your pet’s Level, Strength, Defense, Health, and Speed. He can only train the last four stats to 2.5 times your level. Only the stats you can train at your current level appear in the drop down list, so more than likely, if you’re just starting with an untrained pet, you’re probably not going to see anything except Level at first. Training costs 45sP x level. So if you're level 10, for example, it'll cost 450sP.
If you’re willing to pay 25 CSC extra, you can enroll your pet into auto-training, in which your pet will receive X amount of sessions in a 24-hour period. This is useful in that your pet will automatically be put into the next session after completing one. When the time period is up, you’ll receive a notification:

(!) Be careful when auto-training Level. As your pet’s level increases, the cost of training starts to rise. At certain intervals, higher-leveled pets require more time to complete a session. This in turn affects the amount of sessions you’ll receive in auto-training.

If you have an active Gold Account, there’s a 15% reduction in training time. (To calculate, just multiply the listed minutes by .85)
Other ways to increase stats:
Battling an opponent rewards your pet with EXP for every win, even after the 10th win.
The cost of EXP for each stat will increase as your pet achieves higher tiers.
Scratchcards, Coin Machine: may win or receive a stat boost to your active pet. Make sure you keep your battle pet as your active pet!!
Oracle: She’ll pop up randomly and ask you for an item. Get it for her, and she’ll reward you by increasing one of your active pet’s stats! It’s highly recommended to have the Oracle Widget active, so you don’t miss her.
Complete Shinwa’s daily quest and she may just grant you 1 or even 2 stat boosters! (if she doesn’t, feel free to call her “seacowâ€)
Quentin may reward you with a Mage Amulet when you complete his quests… …which the Mage may or may not turn that amulet into a tome!
2.2 - What Stats Do the quick rundown -----------------------------------------------
If you’ll notice, there are several stats on your pet. Here’s what they do.
Level- Does nothing in terms of ba

Bless you for making this guide (or rather revamping it since some of the others were outdated) Very very helpful and I'm sure A LOT of newbie battlers will find this most helpful and informative. Thank you for your hard work!
Good job! :)
Might be a good idea to msg ( or maybe The Battle Admin will do it) [if you have not done so already ] and have it added to the sticky:
Useful Battle Linksto replace the outdated one. That way people can post on it, even after 3 months and it not be considered - Necro'd! ;)
Awesome stuff. Really appreciate it. :)
If you wanted to be more specific, an opponent gets 10% stronger after each defeat. Basically, Current stats = Base Stats*(1 + x*.1), where x is the amount of wins.
And as for the 30 day wait period, if the pet is adopted from the Adopt R US, there is no wait period (and i dont think this has been changed).
But if the pet is transferred to you, you cant just dump him/her in the pound and pick him up again. the 30 day wait still remains.
And as for the penalty/reductions, hopefully someone can confirm. But Im 97.8978% sure, if any stat is over 2k, all the other stats lose 10% when pet is abandoned or transferred. Also, i cant remember but i think intel is not affected. Hopefully a BA or someone who has experienced this can chime in.
Thank you so much! I'm glad I got to help out, and hopefully we'll see more users looking to become battlers! x3
, I shall mail Sierra and let her know. Thanks for the reminder. ^.^ Thank you for the extra info, I shall edit that in right now.
Care to clear up the whole penalty/stat reduction thing once and for all? ^^

^Clear up... what exactly? I thought the penalty was pretty self-explanatory.
While many of us know there is a stat penalty for transferred/pounded pets for stats of 2K+, we are not sure if the -10% penalty applies to just the stat(s) that are 2K+ or if it applies to all stats. I guess a good example would be if a pet with 2500 health/1900 attack/1950 defense/1600 speed/800 level/1250 intelligence, would it be only the health that is reduced or would it be all of the stats?

Ahhh, yes. I believe... it is to all stats other than intelligence. I'm not sure if each stat is looked at individually or if it's overall. I'd have to check on that.
The penalty isn't listed anywhere; or at least I can't seem to find it. I only vaguely remember a news post/announcement about it, but lord knows how long ago that was. :S

Thank you for this thread!
I finally got all my pet's stats (aside from level) all evened out...and now I can focus on health for a bit.
I stickied this thread because it is great. Love all the screenshots and the clear, simple explanations!
Thank you so much for this thread. It has helped me quite a lot. :)
Wow this was very detailed I think I am getting the hang of battling now, thanks to your guide. I looked at this recently and on today's news I see that Elfric won the pet spotlight, congrats to you both! I enjoyed looking at his profile. I will definitely be checking back on this thread if I get confused or have a question.
