Don't know if it belong here or, small talk, or current events, or debate?

But, with the seemingly increase with gas prices, are you worried? It's about $3.30/low & $3.40/high here in central Oklahoma.

Thing is, my dad was talking with me and my mom, we have a summer vacation planned and he said this. We may not go on our cruise this summer.

He's worried, that if diesel gets to $6, it's going to get bad. Like trucks will stop delivering goods, and people will start eating people because of grocery problems.

I know this may be a bit of a little hoax, gas prices may drop, who knows.

Just, I work and go to school relatively within a 20 mile radius of my house.

I'm a little worried :( My boyfriend said it may go up to $5 during the summer. And he unfortunately lives 6 hours away from me, so that will be an expensive drive when we visit each other :| Plus my parents both have...non gas friendly cars haha. My mom has a SUV and my dad has a big truck, so it's going to be pretty expensive for them.

but uh, as for the people eating people thing...I think that's kind of dumb :P Stuff is just going to be more expensive. Even though this price rise will probably suck for a while though, hopefully it'll give a push to scientists and whoever to work harder on making a better source of energy for cars that is affordable for the average person, and better for the environment.

Money is tight enough around here as it is, if the gas prices jump like they're saying they will it's going to cause serious damage to the area where I live. It's not "north", but it's just far enough away from the southern cities that we have to pay more for everything, gas included. When it jumps, the price of everything else jumps too, and we all have to commute to work.

My father was saying last night that he may just sell his boat because of all of it. It's just a small bow-rider with a 75 hp on the back, nothing fancy at all, but it's going to cost too much to drive it. Even worse, it's going to cost too much to own a vehicle with a V6 to tow it. Unless you have a tiny car with super fuel efficiency it hits you hard in the wallet.

Yup. This is definitely going to happen. I already plan to barbeque my neighbors. Much easier than say, growing a vegetable garden or something.

Yeah, my dad puts things into a lovely perspective.

Well, I would hope so. I mean, yes there are hybrid electric cars, but some of us can't afford a new car. And for the people eating people thing, I live in Oklahoma, I can see it happening to a point... Sad huh? And I live in a nice city area.

Mhmm. My dad is thinking of selling our Rhino and our Gator cause he doesn't want to have to put gas in them..

Ugh, I would love to have 3.30 gas prices again. In my area of California, gas prices are up into the 4 dollar range. The cheapest I've seen recently is 4.19. I'm really glad I don't live in the LA area though, because prices are supposedly around 5 dollars there. It does worry me a little, but my town is small enough that if things get really bad, I could walk everywhere. It would be a hassle, but if it has to be done...

I hardly believe that people will immediately resort to cannibalism in a food shortage. If it was absolutely terrible, to the point of NO food on the shelves at all, they'd most likely start eating small animals first, like cats and dogs. That sounds awful, but it's probably true. haha.

I live technically in the outskirts of Frederick, Maryland, which is pretty much a suburb of Washington DC (don't ask me how that works) where they're predicted $5 a gallon or more. If it hits $5, it screws my family over. Only my Dad works, Mom's basically disabled and I can't find employment already because of the economy and no one wanting to hire a 22 year old girl with no previous jobs.

Yeah, it's gonna be interesting. x_x I am not looking forward to it.

Gas prices are pretty bad here as it is. It was up to $1.27/L while could just jump the boarder and get it for $1.05/L. I have heard it can get up to $1.75/L in the summer. Not looking forward to that. It is not like public transit is good here, need a car to get anywhere. Though in Europe their gas prices are much higher, but they have much better public transit and everything is so much closer, so can just bike places if really wanted to.

I guess I will buy my gas in the States when possible from now on, will save me some money.

Sort of. I'm really hoping that transportation will move on to a different and more renewable resource. Especially in the US. I didn't realize how much driving people need to do to get around until I witnessed it myself.

It's times like this (and the fact that I don't drive) that makes me wish the US had a more country-wide transport system.

I'm getting worried. I don't make much money and I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee that has a V8 engine. It goes through a lot of gas. On top of that, I'm trying to save money to go to Disney World in October.

It would be nice if our elected officials would stop playing with their balls and shitting over the small things and work on this gas thing. It's like, yes, once you guys decide who can get married and how has total say over their bodies, all the other problems will go away.

I am REALLY worried. I don't have a long commute to school, but to see my mom it's a quarter tank in my car just to get down there (so a half a tank round trip) and up here some places are hitting $4.45 already (and I buy midgrade because my car has a turbo. I really should buy the high efficiency crap but I can't and never have been able to). Not to mention my boyfriend is 6ish hours away, and it takes a full tank to get there and a full tank to get back :c

What state do you live in? I thought California had it bad at $4 a gallon. o-0

Anyway, I'm set to start driving soon, so even though my car is a little economy model that gets about 30 MPG these prices are starting to worry me. At least I'm not stuck in my friend's position though. He decided to be cool and buy a newer model Chrysler without taking into account that it guzzles fuel like a wino on Saint Paddy's Day. Yeah buddy, that car's going to look really awesome sitting in the driveway because you can't afford to take it anywhere. :P

For other people, yes, but not really for me. I honestly only drive when I have to commute somewhere. I can walk and prefer walking instead of driving most of the time due to living in a small community.

I don't drive much so it doesn't affect me too badly personally aside from the domino effect of other things going up in price because of it. It does worry me for the future though. The way that we power cars and such will need to change if people are going to still be driving in 20 years, that's for sure. D:

Where I live in Australia petrol has been increasing for a while. It's been as high as $1.50 per litre which is about $5.70 or so per gallon if I did that correctly. xD So I would say Americans still have it pretty good!

This is a great time for me to invest in a nice bike... except when I gotta go pedaling downtown H-town from the suburbs somehow ;D

personally, gas prices should have been higher for a longer time so people get more motivation to save for carpooling, building bike lanes, getting electric-powered cars, etc... it's got to hurt sometime, and I don't think enough people realize how bad it's gonna hurt if and when the prices spike up this summer :/

I've heard estimates that gas prices could go up to at least $5 by summer time. So yeah- I'm a bit worried. Not about anything super drastic, but just about how much the cost will impact my commute to school, going out places, seeing friends, etc. The public transport system in my area sucks nor is it very pedestrian or bike friendly (hills everywhere), so driving is basically the only option. I'm just happy I have a gas efficient car, but still...

My brother's boyfriend drives a lifted truck which gets about 10 miles to the gallon. Pretty pathetic lol, but he said the gas prices have finally made him decide to look into lowering the truck and possibly selling it for a different one. The truck is paid off, but what's the point if it's going to guzzle gas. It costs him $80 to fill up half a tank. I would cry :c

To be honest, gas prices suck in American (I live on the east coast) but just thank your lucky stars we are not European. I am currently studying in Denmark, and gas here is around $9.15 a gallon.

Right now the gas prices are averaging around $3.75 a gallon for regular unleaded gas. Add .10 and .20 cents more for the others.

It's not the greatest price, but better than some places elsewhere in the state. The news is saying it could hit $5 and possibly $6 up here by summer.

I sure hope it doesn't. My hunny and I have a decent summer schedule planned out, if the weather cooperates, but if gas prices are that high - there goes camping and boating this summer, plus the trip I wanted to make to the Forts 6+ hours north of where we currently live. I admit we have a 4 cylinder car that gets good gas mileage, but his truck - a V8, and my boat which has an 85 hp motor aren't the same. They'll eat up a lot of gas. And on 2 fixed incomes it poses a problem.
