I was at the Smithsonian mall with my friend today and as I was approaching one of the museums, I noticed PeTA signs [with infamous pictures of skinned animals and castrated pigs] and two members. One of them stopped me and my friend and just started handing us papers and dvds and started talking to us about how terrible slaughterhouses are.
I asked her a few questions and tried not to laugh about their answers and then they finally let us go. When I walked in the museum, I recycled all of it and went on my merry way.
Before this I thought to myself that if I ever met up with PeTA members, I would laugh in their face, but I was actually sort of intimidated. They were very... zealous, in a weird way.
So tell me, what would you have done?
I went to the Smithsonian and saw those people. I got stickers :D Mine said, 'Meat's no treat for those to eat.' It had a cute little pig on it

Even though I am a vegetarian, I am very anti-PETA because of their harsh tactics and lack of respect for other people's lifestyles. I'm not sure what I would have done if this had happened to me, but I probably would have just smiled and nodded. I wouldn't want to start an argument with a group that extreme. They'd probably launch a whole crusade against me. Haha.
I got the anti-fur sticker, at least one thing that me and PeTA can agree with.
I tried to walk by really fast but I only took one glance and the girl was all in my face xD
an associate of mine made the suggestion that if PETA really wanted to stop people from eating, they would stage a worldwide effort to purchase meals at buffets and trash all the meat on display. ''it'll hit 'em in the pocketbook'' he says.... just before he goes on about how PETA has no real intention of stopping anything -- otherwise they wouldn't be privy to such senseless destruction at the expense of animal's lives. (hypocrites) :P

I wouldn't have given them the time of day...if they'd have started talking to me, I would be all like "NO THANKS" and not stopped.
Annoyingly, when I'm with friends, they all stop and listen to the crazy religious man handing out leaflets...although I find it difficult to contain my laughter when they start banging on about stuff, so I have to get out of there, lol.

If I was absolutely sure that my friend would have kept walking, I would have kept walking too. But I wasn't, so I humoured them for a minute.
It was very awkward talking to them. They talked like normal people but they seemed brainwashed.
As soon as we left, it was like my friend was reading my mind. She said, "PeTA does too much. I don't like them."
i really don't like PETA but i agree with them on some things. probably because i get my meat fresh from my slaughterhouse. and i have a reason to slaughter them than besides the fact i want meat.
You should have gone and gotten something to eat that was made out of meat then walked by them to see if they attacked you.

I would've done the same... I'm always like that with uberserious petitioning groups, like Jehovah's Witnesses, I always listen to what they have to say and pretend to be interested.
I probably would have stood there, not knowing what to say. I fear anyone who isn't a friend, so I'd be nervous. But I probably would have eaten something with tons of meat, to see what they do. ;D
Hmmm...while we are on the subject:Has anybody seen the " PeTA Sexy Super Bowl Ad" that was pulled from airing at the last minute? It brings their weird to a whole new level.
But anyways I would probably just nod my head and say things like "Oh really?Wow I had no idea" and "That is terrible".Then go buy a Sausage McMuffin from McDonalds.PIG IS YUMMY!!
i would say "peta stands for 'people for the eating of tasty animals,' right?"
I would have asked them about that big freezer they have for animals they 'liberate'.
Of course, they wouldn't like me straight off the bat because I walk around in a huge leather trench coat. Ah well, at least the paint could rinse off with ease if I got to water fast? xD
My favorite High school teacher called them a terrorist.
I agree with PeTA on some things, but their methods, though they can be effective in getting the 'word' out, I highly disagree with sometimes.
I would've gotten a sticker though. I love stickers and PeTA ones are adorable. XD
I still have the stickers I got from a PETA booth at a Bad Religion show five years ago. :P I was a vegetarian back then and had the little "I am NOT a NUGGET" stickers plastered on my school binders...
Until I realized how crazy those people are. I mean, I see what they mean and agree with them on points but they're out of control. D:
I was in line for a Bright Eyes concert once and PETA was there handing out pamphlets. I was like "o hai, I love animals, animal rights yeah" then I opened the pamphlet and was all 'O SHIT. D:' It was disturbing to say the least.
Oh, oh!!! I met them at our County fair once, one was dressed up as a cow and the other as a horse and they were parading around handing out pamphlets and shit. My brother and I saw them and I laugh, and he laughed, and then I went up to the cow, SHOVED it, like...into the horse...and they stumbled into each other and dropped their pamphlets. And then ran away and bought a hamburger to celebrate <3
