I can't draw a lick anymore so kudos to the artist. However I do strongly prefer the old version. I had a Mini donkey when I was a kid who looked a lot like this. Cute tho^^

Too bad people are refering to the old revamped version rather than the current Hikei. The old revamped version is out of discussion so why compare that revamp to the new one? =/

It's adorable, but I voted for the old one. The neck and face of the new one just didn't work for me. I was also turned off a it by the tail, which seems too small compared to the old one.

It's great, gorgeous even, but I just preferred the old one more.

I like the pose and the ears and eyes, but I have to admit that I dislike anything else. The tail is too short and looks like it was slimy, the snout looks very thin, the mane is just weird (and too short) and the bodyshading...hm.

The new Hikei looks kind of piggish to me.... I can't really explain why, maybe the fat neck and small head thing it has going. :/

haha Ambition.. I gave the Hikei the proper amount of joints that an equine species should have in its forelegs. Keep your critiques coming, guys. I'm taking all of your comments into consideration so if it a voice of many things will be changed. I'm already tweaking!

Thanks for the comments so far (the good and not so good. haha) and your patience with the Hikei.

Constructively, I think:

Tail too small Head too small No claws on back feet mane too bristley

I looked at it again and read a few users complaints in conclusion: the front is just too bumpy. the stripes and coloration and thickness of the body are fine. Aesthetically pleasing. It's the bumps on the front legs/chest, and the neck.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I'm not sure anyone's mentioned this, but right where the neck meets up with the body, there should be a small "indentation". Erm.. you know, when two muscles meet? I think it looks a bit too smooth adding tot he "too chubby" or the " legs too thin" look everyone keeps talking about.

coloring suggestion: make it whiter. IMHO, I think the current version looks better because it's whiter, it also looks cleaner.

I think this Hikei looks cute and everything. I like the tail and the face (can you say awww?).

A lot of people have answered already, so I'll just do a little list thingy to give some comments. :3

*I'd say to lengthen the back, it looks really scrunched at the moment. *The knee on the back right leg seems to be a bit low, and makes the leg look chunky and doesn't give the ankle too much definition. *The tails are a little cluttered together, it's hard to make out the glowing balls on/in them. Maybe have them splay out more horizontally, it'll help give more depth to the pet just by putting in some perspective work on the tails.

Otherwise it's a nice revamp, I really like both the front legs and hooves, and the head is also very well done.

there is something wrong with the head/neck area. the tail and back legs are PERFECT!!!! the front legs are too bumpy, how many joints does this animal have?! I love the eyes. the new hair is great too!

As i stated previously, there is just something funny looking about the neck area.

I voted old. This just looks very 'off' to me. The face looks much too ...young. I can't explain it, but it's very awkward looking. The mane is way too short and choppy. As much as I lovvve a chubby hikei, this one is so square and uncomfortable looking. And goodness, where did his stripes go? I -MUCH- prefer the longer, thicker stripes of the old hikei. ... And tail, for that matter. Eep, and why is he so grey?

I really do appreciate the numerous attempts at a revamp that the hikei has had, but none of them so far have been able to capture the personality of the old hikei. This one still isn't doing anything for me. ... I do like the eyes, though. =/

I actually think the old version looks rather Chibi compared to this one I have a soft spot for the old one because it's so adorable, but I think this one looks more current... it's a good start

My suggestions: bigger/longer stripes would make the body look less dense and more proportioned... a simple fix there would go a long way. Also as others have stated, lengthening the tail. It looks stumpy right now Maybe make the mane a bit longer as well to give it that classic look.

I think it's cute, but it still needs some tweaking. Kudos to the artist for coming up with this though... it's almost perfect, imo.

I still love it. I'd get one. Although the gray tint and back legs seem a little off to me still, it's grown on me.

A lot of you guys are incredibly rude when wording your criticism. I'm not saying all of you, but quite a few aren't even being constructive. Instead, you're just being plain rude about it. =/

I think this revamp is a very nice piece and a good start, but it could use some refinement. First of all, the thin legs look awkward when paired with the thick body, like they shouldn't be able to hold the weight that well, so the legs could stand to be thickened or the body sleekened (or a little bit of both) so that the proportions don't feel so off balance. Second of all, the face is fine, but the mane looks too rough and should be made smoother, more like the older version, and the ears should be made just a tad fuller. I know that horses in general (as in everything in the equine family) don't have very full ears, but the Hikei currently has more rounded out ears than an average horse and so the revamp could stand to have just a little bit more fullness in that area.

All around, I think it's nice, but it could use just a little bit of tweaking in my opinion before it's perfect.

It makes me think of a hobbit for some reason. >.> It's an improvement in art quality over the old one, and I prefer it over Revamp Attempt 1, but something about it seems kind of awkward. I agree with others that the mane would be nice longer. The legs also looks particularly stumpy, which is in keeping with the pet, but in this version something's bothering me; maybe the front legs need to be slightly longer to match the back ones? Or perhaps what another user mentioned about the knobbyness? The legs on the DM and angelic hikeis I think represent a nice ideal. (Also, on a ridiculously minor note, I personally preferred the back toes white.)

Actually, more than anything, I think the eyes need to be tweaked somewhat, because my first reaction was that it was creepily wide-eyed. Wide eyes are right for the chibi (unlike other users, I think the artist has the head shape/proportions exactly right), but the eyes on the original have a more aloof look to them; less YAYHAPPY, you know?

Meh, I don't intend to own a hikei, and it's a well-drawn revamp; I just think it's not quite right for the hikei as it currently exists.

I don't see this sketchyness people are talking about? Hm.

I think with some tweaks this one would be cute. For one the mane, just as everyone else had said, and something about the forehead throws me of. Maybe if the hair line was brought down a little it wouldn't look so.. large? Or maybe that's just because the mane seems so short.

Also, I think the right back leg (It's right) seems.. short. Personally I think it would look better if the knee was brought up more so the lower leg seems longer C:

Other then that, it looks very cute, hopefully that's the angle you were looking for.

Well, no one says that if the "old new" revamp wasn't satisfactory, things can only get better. Besides, this one is done by another artist. So the improvement can be done without thinking that we're killing the artist after a second try... I guess. And a bit of improvement is what almost every revamp needs to please the species owners and fans...

I voted old. It's not bad, but just not what I would picture a hikei to look like. I think the position of the back legs would make more sense if the front legs were closer together, like the original hikei. It would also give it a cuter look, I believe. Maybe also make the hair more wavey, rather than spikey?

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I quite like this revamp, I like that it looks like more believable in its body structure and I can imagine its movement better.

The only thing I am not exactly fond of is the Mane, it looks to choppy and short. I loved the stylized way it had before. It was kinda like a trojan horse in old greek pictures.

Also I think the back is a bit too short, but I might be mistaken. But in total I am quite happy with it. Especially the hooves and the ears. Who is responsible for this revamp? Rah?

I'll admit I've never been much for the hikeis anyway, and I apologize in advance to whichever artist worked on this, because it just doesn't look right. It looks incredibly flat - the shading is far too light in relation to the lining, which looks too bold and thick without proper shadows to blend to it.

I like the fact that the back paws now have a bit of blue on them. But I think this would suit the Chibi much more, it looks almost too young compared to the old Hikei.

Maybe if the mane weren't as short of its nose was longer?

Overall I like it though 8D good job!

...I find it funny that a lot of people are saying that they liked the "older new one" now. When it was first introduced and polled, it got shot down and torn apart, too. It's head was too big, the pose wasn't dynamic enough, it looked too much like the "chibi" version...

So the design went back to the drawing board, was given a better-proportioned body and a more energetic pose...and now people want the old one back. T_T Major props to the artist for being far more patient and accommodating than I could ever be.

...I wonder what the results would be like if all three proposed revamps were polled at once?

I prefer the old one. What I don't like about this revamp is:

-Head is much too small. -Tail is much too small. -Expression is "off." The slightly shy/wary expression of the old version is what gave its personality.

The tiny head and tail on a beefy body though looks weird, like its spent way too much time body-building.
