Just to add my two cents...the body is a little short and chunky and the head / facial area appears too moon-shaped. As well, the legs tend toward the cartoony side with no real definition or musculature (kind of like 4 little tootsie rolls, or plasticine logs with little slash marks for the nails). All in all, I agree an update is needed, but a bit more tweeking should be done.
PS Love the eyes, ears and tentacles (blends cuteness with a hint of menace!)

i don't like the light reflexes. i mean new is cool, but it's to much. and dessa is right: the retouch looks more evil. not so cute and frisky. i'm missing the pose. i think that's it. maybe the same pose with a more modern color but less light reflection then re retouch would be the optimum!!

I think it might be the placement of the head and/relative to the curve of the chest, but the new Kora looks way too pudgy. Needs less fat plz.

Also, someone is trying too hard with the shading. It looks strange and overwrought.

I am usually against most of the revamps, but I like this one. Speaking as a non-Kora owner though.

Hmm... I like the old one a LOT better but... It is time for an update I guess. Just because the old Kora doesn't look like it belongs with the rest of the pets. Plus no one seems to want to do any of the Kora colors since the Kora's so old. I noticed that the Kora doesn't have a lot of nice colors. Anyway, this is nice and all, but I think you guys when a little overboard with the shading and the highlighting. Especially on the legs. Which brings me to the next thing. That one back leg. It looks... Really fat. Are Kora's feet suppose to be fat in the back? I think they should be more dainty like in the front. If you're going to give the Kora's big feet in the back you should make them long like a chinchilla's... Not fat.

I hate doing this b/c I am noooooo artist but I noticed a couple of things. It's a bit pudgy. The ears and tails look exactly the same. Unless that is a design element I personally would like just a little more definition between the two appendages, unless it's supposed to be that way!

I like the eyes better tho!

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I really prefer the old one...the new one doesn't look as cute as the old one...

Seeing as how most points of contention in the Kora have already been touched upon, I will comment only on the first thing I noticed while looking at the new Kora: It looks evil (and less fuzzy).

When I first joined the site, my first pet, Keiosu, was a Kora. I picked a Kora for him specifically because the kora was so cute and fuzzy. Honestly, the Kora looked to me to be so innocent-looking (which fits the character perfectly).

I'm not sure if I can narrow it down precicely, but there's just something about the new Kora that seems to be the opposite of cute and fuzzy: cold and hard. As some have mentioned, perhaps it's the harshness of the shading (looking at the old Kora, instead of doing a smooth edge to the shading, small divets were done to indicate fur), or the pose being a little more intimidating.

I would suggest that another point that might contribute to this is the shape of the eyes. To me, the shape of the new Kora's eyes is a skewed "D" shape, just a bit closer to a rounded triangle. The edges of the eye seem solid. The old Kora's eyes, however, clearly defined (in most cases... a few of the custom poses/colors blurred this slightly) top and bottom eyelashes, giving the eye almost a backwards "C" with a line on the open part. Especially on the standard pose and the Angelic Koras, the eye looks almost apologetic.

nods Yes, I think a lot of why the new one seems "evil" to me (as opposed to the "innocent" of the old one), is that the shading, pose, and mainly the shape of the eyes makes it seem more 'cold and hard' than 'cute and fuzzy'.

The face and tails, I like. But really, it looks far too chubby for my liking. Honestly? If it had a smoother look to it like the Galactic Kora? Then I'd like it a lot better.

I voted for the newer one because I absolutely can't stand the older version. I prefer a more 3D affect versus the 2D almost cardboard cut out of the older version. This one seems like it'll move any minute, the older one looks like a sticker.

Ah well. Just my 2 cents. It's still a very handsome picture, just maybe it'll be tweaked a bit?

look at the last votes: always the new poll wins (or I am wrong?) - I agree with it, but not with the new KORA !!

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I think it looks really adorable, mostly its face. But, I, personally, think that the front legs need to be a little more longer, and...I always thought of Kora's as more...sleek, and kitten-ish. And also, I think it might be a little cuter if the tails all didn't follow in one direction and went several different directions. And you might want to move the head down/over a tad as Herakleitos said. But you artist(s) did a great job overall!

Kay- I don't get why everyone is mainly complaining that the new kora is fat, though- To me, it looks like the new kora has either been shaved or it has much shorter fur than the older one, which would explain the "bulkier" appearence- But considering if you look at the structure of the old kora, under the fur it would seem it was just as chubby. The bits of shaggy fur on the old design simply cover this up. I've always viewed the Kora to be a chubby creature, because it seems very youthful, and young things are usually sorta fat. xD Eh, and we don't complain about the dilemma, haha. So yeah. There's my two cents. again. x3

I love Koras, so I'm glad they are getting some attention! The art and pose on this one look nice. But, my first impression of this one was that it looks too buff, lol. I think the body shading adds to that look. And the Kora's old pose was very fluid, giving the impression of a lithe and agile creature. But I am impressed that you managed to keep the original's expression vert well! So . . . could you make it like this, but more lithe, pretty please?

I like the shading a lot, but the pose and chubbyness make this one seem graceless. The original Kora has a delicate feel, and is soft. This one sort of appears to be made of rubber. =/ No hint of fur anywhere.

In all honestly, no, I don't like this new version.... the head is beautiful and so are the tails, I love the tails. However, that body doesnt' fit, its plastic and rather bulky shape makes the poor creature look like it can only roll. It looks very much like the head was pasted on a body, it hovers far too much for my tastes. I voted for the old one.

I like the detail shading put into the new version (although it might be a bit over done), but that's about it. I voted for the old version because I prefer the pose and body shapes. I always imagined a Kora as a water creature. And being a water creature, it seemed like its current form is more water fit. Like it glides through the water. The new one looks a bit shiny like plastic and a bit tubby for a water image for me. But meh...

I like the anatomy more in the new one than the old one, but the shading is too... plastic. It isn't half as smooth as the old kora and that's why my vote went to the original pet rather than the revamp.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by ChillyKitten

I personally like the old version, much better. The softer, thicker outlines on the old version gave it a much more "kittenish" appearence, that went well with the pudgyness of the Kora itself. I just don't think the thinner outlines do the Kora much justice. =/

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

Rah: I wouldn't say that it looks FAT, per se, it's just that the head's relationship to the body is a little off and that makes everything else off-kilter. If it were moved down and to the left a few pixels like how the old art is, the pose could overall look a little more natural. Right now it looks like it's stiffnecked while trying to puff out its chest. XD' I saw the Kora as a more passive creature (like you said, its demeanor is a LOT like the pokemon Mew), and how the head alone is positioned took away from that a bit.

Why is it wrong that it looks fat? That makes the Kora so cute now!

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by mysie

I fell in love with the Kora at the start - I liked it so much that I named mine after myself. I have been patiently waiting for the Kora to get some more special colors available, and have been disappointed with the Hydrus, Galactic, and Scribble. I have a feeling that "mysie" is going to become a different Species after the redraw.

I prefer the old version far more because: there was the suggestion of fur which is now missing; there was a charm and innocence to the eyes, whereas the redrawn face looks kind of... malicious? angry?; the redraw looks pudgy, although I think that is because the pose forces in that far back leg towards the belly, but also the near back leg is quite "meaty" looking; I preferred the old "ribbon" appearance of the tails to these new "tentacles" - the ears especially tapered quite gracefully, but now they are also tentacles and they just get lost in the sea of tail-tentacles; the shading is just... let's just say that it adds to a shiny-ness that when coupled with a lack of fur, just makes it very... uncuddly. That might sum up my problem right there: the old draw is cute and cuddly; the new one is cold, wet, sleek, uncuddly, and not-so-friendly. Sorry. :/

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I personally prefer the old one. ^^ As has been said before, this new one looks kinda chubby, lulz. XD The shading seems just a teeny bit harsh too, the old version seems a lot softer, gentler and more ... hmmm, flowing, if y'know what I mean. The newer DOES look good and it's an awesome piece of art ... but I reckon the old one's just that little bit better. <3

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Deleted User

I LOVE the Chubbyness of the new Kora, makes it look less like a 2D pet and more realistic. I dont get why everyone wants the pets to be Anorexic....MEAT ON THE BONES PEOPLE MEAT ON THE BONES

The only thing I would add would be some lighter shading on the tails. On the Old Kora, the lighter color was kinda striped up the tails, and i liked that look.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Stitched_826
User Avatar

I love the new one. But the thing that bothers me most is, of course, the shading. I always thought of the Kora as a fuzzy, cuddly thing. This one looks more like it has just smooth skin... Other than that, it looks great, though I guess the eyes are a little evil, it's still adorable. xD

Nonetheless, I voted for the old one. It's just cuddlier.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Paint
User Avatar

Hm. The shadingh is very nice, but gives the Kora a much more "muscular" macho...pudgy look. Instead of sleek and mistycal. The ears are also uneven in size, perspective or not x D

I'm also not a fan of the new pose, it's very generic and really just makes the pet look... blah. I think the old "leaping" pose should be kept.

My only other two points would be the size of the head and tails. The head looks a tad small, but this might be because the body is so muscular. The tails could also be a bit thinner, possibly sleeker.

That's what it's missing, sleekness o: It just doesn't look like the same body-build or type of pet.

It's very well drawn though c:

I'm gonna' have to go with old o:

I nperspective with all the more special colors (i.e. Spectrum, galactic) it matches more than the old, I think the shading needs lightened up around the belly and legs so it is a little less chubby-looking. Besides that, I love it! ^^
