Not all critiques an artist gets in life are going to be flowery. I've received far harsher comments from my own art teachers, but I didn't cry about it. I learned from it, moved on, and by the end of the quarter/year, they praised me on how much I'd improved. It's an artist's choice whether s/he wants to be offended by a crit just because it's not sugarcoated. Besides, Rah already has the false impression that I think she's a soulless monster, so I doubt she'll heed it anyway. My last comment was more for any artist who's open to learning from the mistakes in the proposed revamp.
Also, was the weasel-like concept of the original Terracoon taken into consideration at all for this revamp? Not the current one, but the very first one? It should be, yet I can't see any traces of it.
Only things I see could be improved is that the tail could be floofier, and the face could be more spread out. :3 Other than that, wonderful job!
Ffffahahaa somthing about its expression made me bust up xD;; I love its face so much
My only crits are its body is sort of like a block O3O and it has no neck
That and the tail looks off, but the little pervy eyes make up for it xD;;
Now I see few problem spots.
The dark brown markings on the tail are a little too bold, or maybe I'm not looking at it right..
Did someone let him have a few extra cookies? XD Make him a little thinner, please.
The eyes are soo adorable, but they need too be a bit bigger.
The tail should be a little longer??
Overall, he's adorable. The shading is beautiful! I really disliked the shading on the first one, and this is a HUGE improvement!
Good work! C=
If only its tail was fluffier and longer... The tail is my only complaint.
e.e; I'm torn with this one.. I LOVE the more detail... but it doesn't really look like a Terracoon.. It has shorter legs and smaller eyes(Bigger eyes were cuter imo). Kinda reminds me of a Corgi Dog.. or maybe a mutated version of a Terracoon. -shrugs- The tail is also INCREDIBLY short. -.-; Too short for any creature. Especially when one looks at the Terracoon's previous tail. Ya might as well just dock it.
However, I like the shading too much that I'll vote for a new one either way... but there are some major changes I'd do... -.-' It just doesn't look at all like the older one.. which is why people like the older one better. x.x
plz don't change them ![]()
-clings to old one-
Don't change them!
I can understand constructive criticism, but angelembryo, that's a bit harsh.
"I can identify exactly who drew this because I've never seen her draw a pet that didn't look flat, stiff, and cardboard with unbendable legs."
I think that was a completely unneeded comment. That was more a stab at the artist than a suggestion for the pet.
I know I'm slow at replying to this post, but I think new terracoon is adorable.
The legs look a little stiff, particularly at the front (maybe it's the outline?) but overall I prefer it to the old one.
This is the first one I've actually had trouble deciding between the old and the new. I usually go with 'new,' and I did this time because I definitely do want to see the Terracoon revamped, but people are right. This one doesn't look near as dynamic as the old one. It's kind of just standing there with very little character, and the tail doesn't seem to be connected to the spinal cord. It's cute-- It's /adorable,/ don't get me wrong - but this one could definitely use a little something else to it before it's made official. Awesome work as always, though!
May I just offer some artistic advice? No. 1: imagine removing the dark eye mask and notice how much blank, dead space is left on the dome-like skull, and how little "face" there actually is. Spread out the features a tiny but more (or as many have said, enlarge the eyes). No. 2: look at some books or something and learn mammalian leg anatomy. I can identify exactly who drew this because I've never seen her draw a pet that didn't look flat, stiff, and cardboard with unbendable legs. Thighs and shoulders aren't bulbous like that, and this poor thing looks like it couldn't even walk if it wanted to. No. 3: learn perspective. The far feet are planted WAY too high on the ground, and the soles too flat. No. 4: the mane and tail look like afterthoughts, pasted onto a cardboard cutout in a failed effort to add some texture. The tail especially looks like a limp noodle that happens to be the only part of the animal with fur. Fix these things and try a more dynamic pose that actually has some life to it, and you might be onto to something.
I say bushier tail and longer body. It reminds me of a ferret, and I love ferrets. :B I really think a longer body would do a lot.
the shading is better and the face is less cartoonish, but it doesn't really seem like an overall improvement to me. the position is stiff and basic and everything just seems.. scrunched? or the bottom half doesn't seem in proportion with the top. it makes me want to pick it up and shake it, its mouth and eyes being open isn't really enough of a lively movement for me.
Wow this looks way better. I love the cute-ness. ![]()
So cute it hurts. I really think it should be longer, not so stocky. The eyes should be bigger, as well.
The body makes it look like they were a litte stingy with the tail, but I likes it
I think it looks fine, but the legs look a little stocky. :3 But a good improvement, I like the tail.
The legs make me think of a very unattractive weenie dog... too stunted, the shading is ok, however the fur seems to be shaded in a different way then the lineart would suggest and I don't understand why the fur should look spiky? I personally like a little more floof to the tail because it looks like a sad dying thing, the face although the angle seems just about right, seems still off to me. I flipped it horizontally and it actually looked better, the ears look almost elven rather than animal-like. Overall I agree with Herakleitos, too stiff. Looks like cardboard. Although the coloring is noticeably an obvious improvement, it doesn't have the natural flow, curves, or life. My two cents.
My only complaint about the new one is that the tail seems a bit too short. Maybe it could be lengthened?
Other than that, I do like the revamp, and have voted for it. ^^ I like the coat patterns and the floof on top of its head and back.
I like the old one better, it's too tall and stocky, and something looks off about the eyes. The shading is good, but it seems very static. It makes it seem like the personality of the terracoon has changed from being jovial and friendly to...creepy. : )
It's got the basics spot on, but perhaps a re-do?
Huh, I'm usually all for revamps, but I actually like the old one better here!
This one is rather. . .Stiff. And it's head is so big, or at least it seems to be with those teeny eyes! XD I bet if the eyes were a bit bigger, and if the body was a bit longer and more flexible, it'd be good, I 'spose. And a more more unique pose, it's just STANDING there! XD
Aww. So cute. I like it, but I guess it needs some... adjustments.
I like the shading and colouring on this new one an awful lot. Looking at the two versions next to each other, the current one looks very pale in comparison. I eagerly anticipate Gnaw's new colour scheme.
However, I must question the tail! Why is a design feature unique to the terracoon being removed in favour of something that makes it look more like a regular racoon? It feels like a step backwards to me.
The pose seems a little static compared to the old one, perhaps because it's very horizontal, whereas the old one was more diagonal. The eyes seem a little bit small, but I can't focus on the eyes for long anyway. I get distracted by that little smile, because it's great. Much enthusiasm for the smile here!
oh goodness, it's so adorable. ;__; i want one so bad.
Upon first glance and in comparing, I find this one to be much better. I find the smaller eyes are much nicer and the shading has indeed improved, they look less chibi now. They also look more fluffy in this version. However, like a few had stated, it is on the chubby side, which maybe a throw-off to some people (I being one of those people), the tail markings seem too bold and don't blend in with the fur very well. The legs could be en longed slightly, also the base of the back leg its too thick. The body could also be...stretched out more, it looks shorter in that sense and therefor fatter, like it was cropped more to the side than the top/bottom. (if that makes any sense.) Other than those minor things, its lovely. =3 Sorry for being harsh. ^^;;;
Thank god! Teracoon revamp! Wait....what about the velosar or whatever? Did it get a revamp yet? o.o Anyway, love the teraccon, maybe make the tail longer and the body is a little too plump in my opinion, maybe make the body a bit thinner and tail longer? Other than that, great job!
I voted for the older one simply because the new design doesn't seem as limber. The body seems too stout. The legs are little too short and body and tail not quite long enough. I do like the stripes on the tail though.
it looks fatter and the eyes are really tiny compared to the last one which i believe were one of the special things about the terracoon. The shading is really beautifull but the older pose and version looked far cutter than the revamp for such a amazing shading used on the body, why did you left the tail look so.... not real like? o.o
I like it a lot better
I love the tail its sooo cute ![]()
Wow. This one is so cute.
My only suggestion really is larger eyes since the current and original both have large eyes. I know we're trying to go for realism but I'd still like to see a bit larger. The tail looks fine to me as most raccoons have tails that hang down and are pretty short. Also the shortness of the body is great because raccoons tend to have stubby legs and round bodies. :3
The tail looks a bit funny, but this is very nice.
Hmmm I think the tail should be more poofy. Otherwise, it looks pretty cute. XD
GAAAH too cute! It needs to be more devious. Less- puffy sugar-pink fairy cuteness.
I like the stripes the new one has on its tail...
I like this, but the pose is a little too boring, the tail needs to be a bit longer and a tad bit poofier, and the eyes are a bit small xP
For once, this one is much better than the old. I didn't think I'd like it since all of the other revamps I haven't liked but I surprised myself.
I dont like it because I think the old one looks better
I want to squeeze him!
I like it. It's overall really good.
very nice.Only one thing needs to be fixed, the tail could be more bushy and just a little bit longer
I like it a lot! There are two things I'd change, though. Make it's eyes a little bit bigger,so it looks as playful and mischevious as the first one,and make the tail bigger and longer,so it evens out the body.
AAWW!! he's so cute! I want one but I already have 5 pets...![]()
My only suggestion might be to make his eyes a bit bigger so he looks just as playful as the last. I do like how it looks more, and I was wondering what would get revamped next. Can't wait to see the one after this.
Well, it's a very nice start, but I think it needs more tweaking. Overall, it seems a little stiff. My main issue is the spiky fur along Mr. Terracoon's back - it looks to me like it's drawn on a wall and he just happens to be standing in front of it. And maybe make his right foreleg (the one further away from us) a teeny bit further forward - it's just it seems like he's meant to be standing 4-square, but he's somehow defying his own anatomy, so.. yeah, the legs need rearranged somehow.
It's awesome apart from the tail wich should be bushy.
Apart from one thing, I like it a lot. However, I wish the fur along the spine was flattened more - if this was done, it would look very presentable.
It's eyes seem kinda odd in comparison to the head. I think they need to be larger or the head needs to be smaller. Other than that, I like. :3
It looks so squishy!! 83 But it needs longer legs...Then I can call it Squishy!
