I never understood Morty cards, will dearly miss my daily interest though. Guess it was a bad time for me to take an SP hit on Item Hunt.
With this and the taxes and other recent changes... why don't we just get rid of all ways to make sP entirely.
(THAT IS SARCASM : )
Someone said somethng about Keith explaining why we are doing this. I must have missed it, where is that?

Man, I really like the idea of the taxes. I'd be annoyed at income taxes or like 10+%, but 3% is such a small amount, at least to each individual person. It would make a huge difference when put together, though. I'm totally for it. Since I've started playing, sP has lost a bit of value. There's expected to be some inflation, but idk I think that trying to avoid crazy inflation is good. I want my sP to have some buying power, and not be useless.
So, this is not good news to me. I don't have a shop, couldn't really get the hang of running one, and get my sp by playing games and quest (one of which being Battle Quest, which no longer gives out sp) and then placing it in the bank at the end of day to collect my interest. It isn't much, but it does add up, one more way to earn sp. I was so excited to earn 3%. I collected it religiously, as anyone who values money would, watching it grown and saving for some weapons. Coupled with the other changes going on around here, it just doesn't really feel like Subeta much anymore. Perhaps to the newer players, but, yeah, really, really, really disappointed.
So, I don't ever remember to get interest, so wahtevs. xD But a tax on user shop items? :| Tax NPC shops, that makes more sense to me. IDK, seems like people won't want to buy from user shops if it's taxed... And it won't help the problem, since they will likely raise prices, making the buyer have to pay the tax twice, if you know what I'm trying to say? IDK seems not smart on terms of making a happy userbase. :<
Okay, Okay! Just got myself caught up. I'll put my own two-cents in.
Please realize by opposing this, it is a selfish thing. We're a community, and this is the best for it. Gaia is one of the most screwed up economies in all of the games that I play, and NONE of the staff was this dedicated to correcting it. All they did was inflate everything to ridiculous heights, so players with less points suffered, and it forced people to buy their cash just to survive in their economy.
If we take this 3% tax, the sP will gradually falter and the economy will start flowing a bit better. The staff has been incredibly dedicated to fix it, unlike anything I have seen. A lot of us on here can still make it. Let's support each other and this movement. It's a wonderful way for this community to actually get closer (I'm probably being cheesy, but it does feel like a time where the site is in distress) and to help welcome new players to eventually balance things out. I don't particularly like being taxed, but I have bigger problems in my life than to rant over something that is actually helpful and healthy for this game. This way, we're still making sP without getting insane prices on items. We're actually going to make this work, I believe in us. And I think this is what we need for sure.
I apologize if I come off harsh, but it's important we all see the big picture here. I don't like it, but it's what's best :) Interest is meh, so I don't really care if it's gone tbh!
Don't care one way or the other if the interest is removed, but on a site that supposedly strives to stay away from real world stuff, taxes sound awfully real world to me.
Just my opinion.
Time to go do real world stuff.
At first I was like WTH? Then I saw people who are truly angry about it and I realized I just don't care so much after all. I was more annoyed at haggling being removed, but I got over that eventually. As I'm sure people will with this, too.
Grabs Popcorn
Thank you for the info! sebastian taxes being removed will be a huge relief. Would have rather sacrificed the vault interest for somehing like this haha.
I feel alot safer walking with money again!
I always forget to collect interest anyway so I really don't care lol but wow people sure are angry about this!
That's an sp sink I would definitely use, then. I already don't think much of purchasing extra layers, and probably wouldn't care if they cost more than they do now either. I rarely used them when it was a CSC thing, though.
Well, there goes the last reason I have to keep logging in here.
Maybe a poll would be a good idea? To see which users actually benefit from this and how many really care if it stays or goes. (I only collect 28k so i really dont care)
No please do not remove it
Taxes in the real world are evil, if taxes are added here that would be ridiculous.
Ive always been a spender on SB but now Im thinking I should be hoarding all my SP..eventually it will be impossible to afford anything unless you're loaded or using CSC :( I will miss interest in banks but I agree with Keith its a detrimental function. I'm more concerned about the TAX discussion here and when that will happen..better start hoarding..:(
I don't know why the interest is being removed. I don't like the idea of freaking taxes at all on purchases either. I see a price and that's what I want to pay or not. Sebastian has gotten enough from me already and I know he's lurking about waiting for me to have too much on hand, but I'm used to him. Why the sudden need to change these things? I love the other changes tho, like adding to your collections with one button and the vending being streamlined to make it easier - those things add to our playing this game and make it more enjoyable and less of a chore. I appreciate things like that. Fix what isn't working, not what is.
I never collected my interest anyway so this doesn't bother me at all. XD I splurge all my money on CWs lol, most I ever have in my vault is like 5 mil. I don't mind this change. :)
Most of my account is in items anyway. I have very little sP and all the sP drains are killer.
Ooooooooooooooooh sp instead of csc to train i would love that and use it everyday. I cannot be on every 51 mins or every 102 mins for Vito, Baylie and Brax but i dont want to spend csc to train xD Especially since i consider them my "baby" battlers
You could add a 10% tax to everything like the gst in australia. So the user prices it at say 30k but the price in sop search is 33k. That way they never see that 3k but 3k is still being taken out of circulation :) I would also be down with paying tax once a week from the purchases in my shop xD it would be a little much to pay when i sell alot but hey whatever it takes to make the economy settle. I chalked the changes upto the migration of neo users xD i know how they love to falsely inflate things
oh tax on user shop i love this sink [as long as the tax is taken from shop cashout and NOT add to the buyers cost [like real world :( ] this is a good sink to have instead of making items cost so high [in certain shops] as an sink.
You're correct about this, this is being discussed. Moving things that cost CSC but don't generate a lot of revenue over to sP. As CSC is in more demand anyway (mainly since CWs I imagine); balancing the two out. Much like what was done with the extra layers in the wardrobe.
I am sorry but i dont understand the big freak out. Even if you were the richest user on the site the interest would still be small enough that i wouldnt care. I earn around 50k a day and i have to be honest 50k doesnt go far on subeta xD 300k doesnt go far with me either. Kaita, Brax, Baylie and Vito cost over 300k to train a day so i guess i dont see anything under 1 mill as anything but change. On subeta i bank everything over 1 mill and it is nothing for me to spend 100 mill on shinwas keys and build my way back up so yeah xD as for spending on csc i havent purchased for a few weeks as things were a little tight for myself and my family for a month or so as we were hit with bills and you simply cant not pay a bill so you can buy csc xD But i still had quite alot of csc from the last times i purchased. Personally i think threatening to not buy csc over bank interest being taken away is silly and if you are living on very little you need to get your priorities sorted better cause if i had a choice of feeding myself and my family or buying csc im afraid i would need to go without csc ^-^
I suppose I should add that if the tax is an extra charge to the buyer, like sales tax, I would be a lot more open to it. You're still removing sp from the economy, but it's the choice of a user if they wanna spend that extra or not. I have no problem spending that extra amount when buying from users, but when I'm saving for items from other sources(millionaire center, for example) I don't want to feel like I'm losing sp even though I've been actively avoiding it. Item prices will go up from people wanting to make more sp anyway, why not go with the direct route?
Oh, and I'd totally be ok with other sp sinks I've heard of before. I think someone once suggested sp charges instead of CSC for autotraining(or I'm imagining things)? I'd definitely be willing to pay that to continue autotraining my 22 pets, haha. CSC is just a hassle with how much it depends on other users' pricing, or on whether I have real cash to spend.
Solia Online does kinda the same thing. They tax items you put into your shop, and call it a "deposit." After the item is sold, however, the user gets the deposit back. Perhaps Keith could do something like that instead.
Never a good thing when you're taking something from Neopets, a poor example of just about anything. JMO.
insert catty, sarcastic comment here
Darn, no more free sP? What ever will I do?
goes back to RSing and quests a few more times
Oh, there. That's better.
This bums me out. I enjoy collecting interest! I come on everyday just to collect interest. Why does a game have to relate whats happening in the real world? I come on this site to escape the real world and to de-stress!! I don't even know what's really going on and what all this means, just hope this is not a kick in the ass we'll rape you and your sP kind of thing. (like what happens in real life. rolls eyes) lol
From the sounds of what Keith said, more than likely they'll be getting rid of the random tax event (or Sebastian terrorizing us the moment we go to take out a large sum to buy something big :D) in favor of a flat tax per purchase. It won't necessarily be more taxes, it'll just be on purchases rather than hitting you where it hurts all at once.
Am one of the rich and this interest is not a real big deal anyway. Even with a billion it's just nothing, totally don't see why this is a bother to have vault interest removed. I didn't even collect it daily and it's totally not something you can live on in the subeta world.
I just hope this 'taxes' thingie is a lie. We already have sebastian Phoenix terrorizing us. Heck i don't even dare to walk with 100 million anymore because i got screwed!
Losing vault interest will not be missed, there are still tons of ways to make alot more money. 100k is nothing
Removing the Interest is okay to me... But paying MORE taxes is a big NO-NO.
I not really know whats gonna happen to it, and what we gonna get else... but I will see.
Suprise me, Subeta.
You make a really valid point. I myself have tried to read through some of the posts when they notify the # siteupdate group, but even that much has been fairly overwhelming. When you put it like that though, I guess I'll just have to work around that somehow. :b
Be happy and go out and buy WL items now people instead of being scared to spend it and hoards billions of it @.@
THAT WL ISNT GONNA BUY ITSELF ;)

This is for explanation purposes only, not to start an argument. I feel like some people need to wrap their mind around something, and this is something I had much trouble wrapping my mind around (for years) because I'm introverted as heck.
The news is the news. Think of it like a newspaper or your homepage where you get to pick all the topics you care about and they're nicely given to you in small bits. You don't see everything in it. There might be a headline or an article about something important, but you don't discuss it with your newspaper. You can make comments as you sit there drinking your coffee, but the discussion that took place before it made it there, aren't listed in the paper.
That is what the forums are. Specifically, the site feedback and announcements at times. It's like... the town hall. The mayor hosts the meetings on important information and gets feedback from the city before he makes his decisions. If you want to know those things you do have to go there, period. I avoided it for... a very long time but I can tell you it is possible to go there and read (and yes you have to turn off your meter that makes you want to run from ignorance) to get see and take part in (if you feel the need) the important discussions happening. Keith does actually discuss these things there, explain them, and get feedback. He makes comments and I've even seen things change because of the discussion there. If you want to be into that part of it, you have to go to the town meetings, otherwise all you will get is the newspaper article declaring the new things the next day.
Just do this lol just rambling
Sebastian Phoenix collects 1% from ALL sp aka IRS.
Morty Card have the ability to pay .5 said tax if you have 1 on hand when Phoenix shows up he collects the card and .5%.
Bank Interest only payable to the 1st 100mil [like social security tax cut off at like 250k] this will help the poor users and at the same time the top users only get it for 100m.
If you guys hadn't noticed, the economy is a bit of a mess. What good is having 1 billion sP in your vault when it can't buy you anything, because a loaf of bread is all of a sudden 500m? That's the point we're getting to. The less sP is put into the system, the MORE your stash is worth.
I agree with the folks who have mentioned the explanation for what was going on with taking this away should be in the post and not in this (ridiculously overwrought) thread. That said it's been hilarious to read the hand-wringing and wailing. Good times.
Personally, I mostly just used interest as a way to gauge how much I was putting away and feel accomplished. Guess I'll never hit 10k, but I'm proud of Subeta for all the steps it takes to manage the inflation that's so intrinsic to pet sites. Just, yeah, more explaining would be nice. I never visit the forums if I can help it and had no idea crucial discussions about the site economy were happening there.
I have quite a bit of sP's in my vault. I am one who collects interest every single day. I don't agree or disagree with the interest being taken away, I do appreciate it while it was offered to us. However, with all the sP's I have accumulated, I only buy things that I want, as it's senseless for me to spend it on things that I don't desire. I don't believe anyone should dictate how, the so called rich should spend their sP's ~ ^.^ ~
So, reading more comments, and I see such a strange argument going on. Not only did hit the nail on the head, I'd love to see people protesting this take into account the subtle changes that have been implemented recently to our economy. The questing re-balances, vending changes, SP sinks, older item releases and other tiny tweaks have had a massive effect on the future of the economy. We haven't even touched on how things will change, and although I'm not an expert I suspect that those massive piles of sp will shrink. That's the main goal. I believe a 3% tax is a logical extension of this. The inflation of cheaper items and the deflation of old items alone could help to revalue SP.
I spent a lot of time and often real money on my wardrobe. Some items are priceless now, and the worth of what my avatar is wearing is sometimes incalculable. That feels good. It's not a good enough reason to deny other users that wig, that makeup, that awesome sword. The experience of getting an item that you have always wanted is a big incentive. I have items on my wishlist that have sat there for my entire user history because there were so few in circulation. Every single user benefits when 'unobtainable' items are released again.
I could totally see that. One of my stores functions is very similar near Lumi. It acts as the "do not spend or your friends will get nothing" store. :) I could see those that quest/game more using the bank for that. Good point.
So this is what happens when you take away 300k a day from some of the richest users, and there I was wanting (or still wanting I spose) to stop EVERYONE who could from getting half as much pure sP from quests as they are now... I must be a horrible person to think how fascinated I would be by reading the comments page if that happens.
Why are people so resistant to change? And why are people so angry at other people who resist change? After that point, it starts to make some sense that the anger just spirals, I guess, and it makes for some good reading...
If you are wanting to remove the RE that taxes our on hand sp, what happens to the achievements?
idk how I feel about sp taxes, that's pretty strange for a pet site. Don't care too much about the interest though, I've probably remembered to collect it less than 100 times in nearly ten years.
I hope that we don't suddenly get 'taxed' in user shops.. or any shops for that matter. It seems like you guys finally simplified and found a good balance with how the shops are set up. Why increase the price of everything but call it a tax? You might as well just increase the overall price of every item on site by 3% and be done with it. But let's not play around with the whole taxes thing anymore please. (Not that I want an overall price increase on anything either..Please no for the love of god.)
If you're worried about the Sebastian Phoenix achievement I would re-purpose it completely in order to avoid the whole 'taxes' thing. You guys are smart I'm sure you can figure out a cute way to take sp and give an achievement for it. Perhaps Sebastian brought down the entire banking industry and is wanted by the authorities and broke so he has to come and "borrow" it from you? 'IOU <3 Seb. Phoenix.' There I fixed it for you. :)
