Very random. I also had one that just loved talking about Titanic, even if it was not related to any subjects. I think teachers just love to hear themselves talk? Archery is an usually hobby. Kids can be really weird about what is "cool" or not at that age.

The Romans are at least interesting to learn about. History is super boring if you are just suppose to memorize dates and wars. I like to learn about how people lived, their culture. Stuff like that. That is interesting to me. I am terrible at remembering geography or history facts though. :P Vikings sure did their thing in the UK, so I guess there are some common history there.

For the most part I dont feel like English speaking people talk too fast. Maybe that is just because I am so used to hearing it on the telly every day? Except for maybe people that have a difficult accent. I didn't really have much trouble understanding anyone in Scotland either. I just find their accents super charming. :)

That is a fairly small school. During my first 6 years in school (elementary) we only had about 27 students (1 class) for each age group. During 7-9 grade we had 5 classes for each age group approx. So my schools were fairly small as well. I am not sure I would want a school that much bigger than that really.

Onslow and Daisy are both hilarious. :D And the way her neighbor always shake when she tries to serve tea. ;)

now that is totally random! :P

The Romans were interesting the first year, but by the fourth year of junior school, we were just going over the same old stuff yet again (there didn't ever seem to be new things we learnt, as it all was based around the Roman museum each year) ;) There's so much more modern history in the local area, but we never covered any of that at all (nor anything about Vikings either!). I can remember dates reasonably well, but I just get bored if it's just dates and 'dry' facts ;)

I really like Scottish accents, but my neighbour has a particularly strong Scottish accent, and I have to really concentrate when he's talking, otherwise I lose track of what he's saying 😊 Some Northern English accents are quite hard for me, but I think that's mostly because I don't hear them on a regular basis, so I've not kind of tuned into them :P

Your elementary school was smaller than mine! But in primary (up to the age of 11) we had a max of two classes per year group, then in secondary (age 11-16) we had three classes per year group, but with less in the year each year as some kids moved away / changed schools. I had a look round a bigger school but I hated the size of it - I think I'd have got lost within a few minutes! ;)

I don't know how the actress managed to do that so convincingly, and especially without laughing!

Not using the scooter is apparently, also better for the leg. Apparently, healing approaches have changed and they would rather see people walking around as it stimulates healing and circulation--so crutches are not preferred anymore, which is essentially what the scooter is.

So my doctor adjusted the cast yesterday as the foot was calmer so he could put it in a better position but boy did it hurt last night! But aside from the pain from that, it has been better than with the splints, ect. He told me that an MRI is a bit pointless as ligament tear or small fracture, the cast is the same healing method and he didn't wish to be frivolous since we have no insurance. He told me it would stay on for about 4 weeks at that point he'll assess the stability, pain, etc of the ankle then and I'll have to have surgery to repair it. So it's a waiting game now.

Lene: hehe I loved everyone hiding from her :P

Paddy: sounds like you got the best outcome. What kind of car did you get? colour? I sold my car for cash a few months ago for essentially the same reasons. We'll try to replace my car in a year or so if possible but in the meantime we are getting a little bit extra money without my car on the insurance.

that seems weird, but I can kind of understand why they want you to be using your leg rather than avoiding it.... I suppose as well that's why they use walking boots with crutches for stability, rather than a plaster cast you can't put your foot down on?

Hopefully it isn't too much of a pain (literally) with the cast on - and at least you know how long you have to put up with it for squishes

I got a Toyota... not sure what the official name of the colour is, but it's kind of metallic electric blue :D The insurance costs more (but on my old car that would've increased anyway as there'd been that claim), but the road tax is only twenty quid for the year (old car was about 180 pounds), and I was able to save almost 200 quid on the breakdown cover from what I was spending out on the old car as well .... so overall I think I'm paying less ;) If you can afford to, you could put aside the money you're saving from not having a car to run (or some of it at least) then you'd have some funds set aside to put towards a different car in the future? Obviously that doesn't work if you haven't got the option of setting anything aside though ;)

Sorry you are having to wait longer for your ankle to be properly fixed. :( I am glad that your doc is mindful of the fact you don't have insurance. I would hate to see a doctor take advantage of that and order unnecessary stuff.

That is one of my favorite things from the show too, seing people hide from her. And whenever the phone rang. Those candlelight dinners... so many things.

o_O That seems even more weird, not teaching you new stuff. It is not like schools are there to teach you stuff or anything. I think we should learn about the Romans, but there is so much history to learn beside that. Of course we learned a lot about world war II as well. Not so much local history. I am not as good at remembering dry facts like dates... I had a good memory for other things though like German vocabulary etc. Which you could also argue is boring, but somehow easier for me to remember.

Maybe the Scottish people I met made sure to speak more clearly since they knew we were tourist? I am not sure. Would not surprise me. I have heard strong Scottish accents before, and it is not easy to understand. Not to mention those Scottish words that are very different from English. I don't know much about Northern English accents though.

I don't blame you. I wouldn't hate to start at a new school not knowing anyone. Especially if it was large and you felt lost in the crowd not knowing anyone or where to go. For 6th-8th grade when we had to change schools (kinda like junior high in the US I suppose) our classes was a mix of students from 3 schools in the area. That meant some of the people in my class were from my old class. The rest from different schools. So at least you knew some people. And for some subjects, they mixed people from different classes.

I could never have worked at the show, I would not be able to stop myself from laughing and ruining the shots. :P

even just a very short walk from the school (about a minute!) there's old houses that we could've looked at the designs & learnt about Georgian or Victorian history, plus the civil war battlefields about a 10 minute drive from the school. I actually never learnt grammar rules at all at school, so when it came to learning German it was even more complicated as none of us had a grounding of proper grammar in English to start with o.O (that seemed to be down to the trend for teachers at that point.... when I was 6, the teacher threw out all the dictionaries as it was said to be slowing down learning if you needed to look up how a word was spelt!)

That could definitely help if they realise you're a tourist ;) although some of the foreign tourists here speak really quickly when they're asking for directions sometimes, and I still struggle to keep up! :P

That always helped when they kept kids from the same school together (or tried to keep friends in the same class where possible) when you move to the next school ;)

ooo I love the HA today :D I'd be terrified I'd lose my balance if I had a cast without crutches or a stick just to steady myself 😊

It's definitely going to save me money (as long as it doesn't need major servicing or anything :P) compared to the old one.... and the chap who delivered the car said he thinks it should be less 'hungry' when it comes to petrol as well ;)

That's always a disadvantage squishes but at least you're not spending out the extras on fuel or whatever, so there's less going out each month at the moment ;)

I am glad to hear that. It is good to see there are docs out there that care about their patients. :) One of the funniest shows I have seen. Sex and the city is also up there for me. lol And Big Bang Theory.

Your old school is officially weird. o-o Why not make use of the practically free places to teach history? And not learning grammar either? To be fair, I am not so sure how much it would have helped during your German classes, as English and German grammar are both very different. Maybe they figured you would learn grammar with time, reading and stuff? I dunno. For English we got a bunch of rules and a long list of exceptions every time it felt like. :P

The Scottish people were all very nice and friendly too, which is another reason I would recommend visiting. ^_^ We get a lot of tourists during the summer, mainly cruise ships, but I rarely get asked for directions. :)

:nods: Moving to a different school is already stressful enough for most. :) I am very glad my days as a student is over. :P

exactly! I think it was more the case of the German teacher mentioning some grammatical terms, and us just staring blankly because we didn't have a clue what she was on about :P But if we'd had a proper grounding of grammar in primary school, I think it would've made things easier on learning other languages in secondary school ;)

You're lucky that you don't get asked directions all that often - I even got asked directions when we were on holiday o.O :P

hehe same here! I had considered going to University, but I decided that I would be better off getting a job and earning money rather than studying something else when I didn't really have any great career desires (and had no idea of what subject I would pick for University study either!)

True, knowing grammatical terms and principals would be useful. Not like they could expect you to know that. Plus, if you go into uni, the of course expect you to have descent grammar and spelling. I guess these days you can use programs to catch some mistakes.

Some people just have something about them that makes it easier for strangers to approach them. Maybe it is your retail background. :P Who knows. Makes sense to get some work experience and money then. ;) Going to uni is very cheap here.. just a tiny fee and books.. but most need a loan for things like rent and food. So you still end up with a big student loan in the end if you need to move out on your own. It is not like everyone lives close to a uni.

thank you :) LOL I did finally change it though. I love yours today :D

Actually it's really not bad walking on it. Most trainers are about the same level so you don't really feel that unbalanced.

Saving money is good.

I never got into either of those shows. How's it going?

and it would've been more help to learn them for English before we were 17 and needed to know them for German :P

Mum always jokes that we both have a neon sign over our heads that says "I'm approachable, please talk to me" as she has the same trouble with people always wanting to strike up conversation / ask things :P That's much better than over here - there's a fee for the courses (not counting off-campus accommodation after the first year, and food & everything else!) although you can have a student loan (which you only start paying back once you are earning a particular amount).

whoa that's a striking look... although I'm not too sure I would want to eat anything made in that kitchen :P

That's much better than I'd thought then - I suppose they can't have it too high compared to your trainers, otherwise it'd cause a problem with your hips if you were lopsided ;)

I would lie if I said I was doing fantastic, but hanging in there. How about your and your foot?

:nods: I have studied some pedagogy before when I studied to become a kinder garden teacher (I quit that one), and have never heard of such an approach to teaching languages. o-o Of course English classes are more than just teaching grammar, but still.

Hehe. It is a nice thing to appear friendly and approachable, but some days you just want to be left alone. Or you are just busy. The small student fee does not include food or board at all, so there are still a lot of cost if you are not able to live at home with your parents or something. We also don't start paying back the loan until we earn a certain amount. If you finish your exams a portion of the loan will be turned into a stipend too. The whole thing makes sure that everyone that wants, should be able to get a college/uni degree.

I think everything changed so much over the years I was in school, that most schools just followed the 'trend' rather than teaching things that would be useful once you moved up to senior school.... I guess they figured it was that other school's problem by that point! o.O

nods yeah I even tried wearing a baseball cap pulled down a bit, so I wouldn't look approachable.... and had an old lady come up to me asking if I'd ever been to America (my cap had NY on it) :P I guess you're ok if you have a university nearby that runs the courses you want to study! We've got two universities within about 5 miles, but most of the students I knew from school went further afield for university (unless they just went and got a job like I did :P)

thank you. I'm attempting to go through all of my skins, starting from the last lol. Wish me luck. I got all the way up to Virus which I'm struggling to come up with an idea, but at least I've got a few saved. Got an idea for Virus lemme know :P LOL right? I had similar thoughts :D lol. Totally would not eat at that diner :P

yeah, and than I first thought too, I was apprehensive the first time I had the cast but it's not as bad as you'd think. That said, it does still suck lol Not as easy to move around as without it and can be painful after awhile.

I'm sorry -hugs- I do understand though, it's not been really great for me either but I also am just tryin' to keep plugging along.

Gotta make the best out of things. :hugs: Understandable with all you have been dealing with. How is the furbabies doing?

That is true, there are trends in education and pedagogics too. Granted I don't think the schools I went to did anything unusual.

lol I sometimes have strangers talking to me. But more so if I am having a good day. If I am in a mood, I guess I don't look as approachable. :P I would not have been able to study library and information science at the university in my home town... I could have studied to become a kinder garden teacher here, but I wanted to live in Oslo. Not all universities can offer every subject.

Well at least that's a positive that it's not as bad than you'd first thought squishes Hopefully you won't need any casts after this one though!

We're lucky here in that one university does the 'heavy' subjects like mathematics and science, and the other one does things like art & music. So unless you really want to go to a university further afield (either for a 'better' university, or you just want that experience to move away) there's a lot of options at the local ones ;) I did have the idea before of doing distance learning university, but even that is really pricey! In the end I couldn't find a subject that really stood out to me as something I wanted to study to that level 😊

I'm organised (for once!) and I've got your birthday present all wrapped and ready to post :D So allowing for Easter, it should still arrive before your birthday :D

Always good to have the option to not have to move away to study. :) The university here offers a good amount of options since I live in one of the larger cities, but there are some exceptions. For the most part no university here is more prestigious than others... it is more about what degree you get and of course grades. Some couses are of course more difficult than others to get into. Nothing like the ivy league unis in the US or anything, that is for sure. Distance learning might have been a good option for you, but of course you would want a subject that interest you enough to keep you motivated. ;)

Thank you! Looking forward to getting it. :hugs: Apparently I am not organized this time. :blushes: I know your bday is coming up soon as well. o-o

That's definitely helpful if there's not prestigious universities in that way, so it doesn't make it quite so hard to pick somewhere! Over here there's Oxford and Cambridge which are the kind of elite universities, but you also could get ones that have a good name for particular subjects ;)

For distance learning, they actually do an "open" course where you can pick multiple subjects to study over the degree course rather than sticking to just mathematics for instance ;) But even then, I still couldn't pick something! 😊 :P

I have heard of Oxford and Cambridge, so that does not surprise me. Having a degree from either of those must give you a head start in your career. I would think it is common for countries to have such universities.

That is also very helpful. :D My friend got a bachelor degree studying both psychology and criminology. Don't remember what her degree is called. I would study psychology or philosophy. Those are the most interesting subjects to me, but I would have no clue what to do with the degree!
