Yup. :D It was good to get home. It has been nice, but it is always exhausting to be around so many people and so many things happening all day.

The mother most likely did not have the money ready to pay for the car either way. :P She learned a lesson that day. I have bought a lot of stuff from ebay and even sold things (like neopets plushies). Not had any major issues.

My mother would have killed me if she caught me drinking. :P Otherwise maybe I would have been tempted to try too. :P That sounds a lot better, not having to go with parents. At that age, parents are so uncool. It felt a bit weird sitting in on the Czech class. The students got to ask us questions and they seem to be a bit in awe at how "rich" and privileged we were. And compared to them, that was probably true. They wanted to know about money and material things. Both the German and Czech students seem to be working a lot harder on their studies too. Our school seemed a lot more laxed. :P

So im having a bit of a hard go of it these last few weeks. I haven’t mentioned it becaise it feels like an ongoing saga. But my left foot (the one I consider my strongest leg) has a very large wart on it and it has to be shaved off weekly until its gone. Its infectious so i have to be careful or i could get warts in other spots. So I’ve been dealing with that for the last three weeks. The same foot has been rolling inward but nothing terrible. Until, that is, Friday evening. It rolled again but this time it started hurting like hell. I wound up bandaging it on Saturday morning but the pain was so bad i called my doctor. He confirmed what i was afraid of and said it was a sprain. I have it in the air cast/boot from my right leg but he told me if the pain was still too bad to use the walker scooter which i was forced to start using yesterday afternoon. I will see him on Tuesday i guess. -sigh- i was in too much pain to do much on Saturday.

Paddy hope you gwt a fair value if they won’t repair.

Lene have fun!

It's surprising how busy it can feel just by being with so many people! ;)

nods true, although I think some auction places could be quite strict and not be willing for people to back out - after all, it did seem a rather far-fetched reason for having bought it in the first place!! :P

We never had the chane to sit in classes at other schools like that. The nearest we got was watching a (very dated) video of a German school's English lesson (the entire thing was in English).... our German lessons were 90% in English, so none of us had expected that their lessons would be all in the language they were learning!

I've had verrucas before and I know how annoying they can be :K Hopefully resting your ankle will let the sprain heal up without too much extra hassle squishes

Yeah, Mum tried phoning today to get some more information, but of course until we've got the repair quote (that should be tomorrow hopefully), the insurance company won't say anything! It's been raining a lot overnight, so I need to double check that no rain came into the car (there's a bigger gap between the door and the body, so potentially it might be a bit damp depending on which direction the rain's been blowing around).

:nods: I am not used it after all. ;)

I know you will probably get some angry reviews on ebay if you bid on stuff only to not pay when you win the auction. :P But of course there is also often a buy now feature. At least the mother got a funny story to tell.

I wonder what you were suppose to learn by watching their English lesson? I could understand it if they were speaking German. We never did that, but we did have what they called a language lab. We would read out loud into a mic, and the teacher could listen in on who ever she wanted. I almost jumped out of my seat when I all of a sudden heard my teacher say "good job Lene" while I was wearing my headset and working.

I never really understood why we needed to watch their English lesson! All it did was make me feel inferior that they were identifying members of the British Royal Family that I couldn't name(!) and doing the entire lesson in much better English than my level of German was ever likely to reach :P

That sounds neat, although pretty freaky if you suddenly hear the teacher like that! My school wasn't that technologically advanced :P The only real times we did conversations in German was for mock exams / the real exams, where you and the teacher were sitting in the small room (it was a large cupboard :P) and the conversation was recorded on tape. We were told the topic of the conversation, then had 5 minutes before the exam to prepare (and could take notes in with us).... and I hated every second of it! 😊

So the foot has been splinted properly which has taken a lot of the pain away thankfully. I have to get it x rayed to make sure I don’t have a break but at least the pain is lessened. I don’t have the energy to deal with the xray today though so it’ll wait till tomorrow.

Hope you are both well. Paddy, any updates on the car?

at least that's a positive - having it splinted should mean there's no chance of doing further damage to it squishes Fingers crossed that the xray comes back ok :)

I love the updated HA by the way ;)

Yeah, looks like it'll cost more to repair than the cost of the car (according to the chap at the local bodywork place).... Mum's found another mobile repair place that I need to contact to arrange them to do a quote (mobile repairers are a load cheaper), in the hope that would come in at a suitable price for the insurance to actually agree to. I've also got to phone (hate phoning :K) my insurance to let them know what happened, and most likely send over photos for their reference. However, a neighbour actually had a run-in (literally, the van reversed out of a side road and into his car while he was driving past) with a delivery van from the same supermarket last year, so I might see if I can ask him how he got on with his claim (the damage to his car was worse than for mine, and I'm assuming his was a write-off as he got a replacement car quite quickly.

I am glad the doc was able to lessen the pain. Hopefully you will get a good report from the x-ray tomorrow. I don't blame you for being tired and not wanting to deal with that today. Rest up and get better soon. :hugs:

The thing is, we hear English everyday. From tv, radio, internet, music etc. You are bound to pick up on a lot of words. Plus, the English royal family is at least interesting with all their drama. angel Our royal family is quite boring. lol So I wouldn't be too hard on myself for not being as good at speaking German, since we also start learning English in school fairly early. In my days it was 4th grade, now they start in 1st grade.

We got one grade for written German and one for oral. I did well in both. :) I would hate being recorded. Uggh, So glad I didn't have to do that! The stuff schools put us through. We was pretty much randomly assigned a subject for some of our exams... I wanted German but got something else instead. I think maybe social studies or history?

I have heard that the best way to learn a language is to immerse yourself in it (preferably hearing it spoken by native speakers, or at least someone with a reasonably authentic accent!) ;) ....which would also explain why I found German and French so challenging, given that most of our lessons were in English, and the teachers coulnd't do realistic sounding accents :P hehe that's true on the royal family, although we never actually learnt anything about them at school which I did find kind of weird o.O

We had three different exams for German (spoken, written and listening) but one overall grade at the end. I don't think I'd have liked being randomly assigned a subject like that! Some of our subjects were compulsory, but others we could choose (so we had to take a Technology subject, but we could choose one of woodwork, design, or food tech), as long as there were enough kids wanting to take the subject. They actually ran the music exam course just for me, after nobody else wanted to take it (it was a choice between music, art or drama - I hated drama, and the art teacher didn't want me in her class as she didn't think I was interested in the subject :P) 😇

My nerupathy has decided to go out of control like it did before with injury and i woke in extreme pain despite pain meds. My sweet little Carmen has been trying to comfort me. Shes such a lovely little girl. Her foster family nicknamed her little mama before i got her hand it really fits. She doesn’t like anyone yelling either. So its been nice to have the extra comfort.

Paddy we want it broken lol. It’s faster and easier to heal. Thanks. I got the riparian thingy the other day and wanted to play with it. Lol i only knew what riparian means because of an episode of Keeping up appearances. Lol go 90s British sitcoms xd

Sounds like you’re having a go of it yourself. Good luck, you might need it.

PinkPanther thanks dear.

Aww that's sweet of her :D Just as long as she doesn't lie on your leg or anything that makes it more uncomfortable though :P Well whatever it turns out to be, I hope it's an easy 'fix' to get it back to normal! ;)

ROFL that's exactly how I learnt the meaning of 'riparian' as well! ;)

lol she did lie on it briefly but I managed to extract it before pain got worse. Lol. Shes a doll. Thanks me too. He’s told me theres a good possibility i will need to redo the TAL surgery as it isnt very elastic in the achellies tendon and that might be part of the underlying issue.

Lol yes. -high fives- go mrs bucket lol.

I suppose she wouldn't be a cat if she didn't lie somewhere awkward, even if it's only for a minute or two :P

Well that stinks, although I suppose at least it might help if your achilles tendon isn't quite so tight so you don't end up with even more problems in the future!

[edit] (edited Thursday) The accident repair garage (the ones through my insurance) rang today, to say that having seen the photos, they don't feel the car is worth repairing. So it's now a case of waiting for my insurance company to phone (could be a couple of working days, so realistically that could be Monday) to see what happens next, and how much I can actually get towards a replacement.

I loved watching Keeping up appearances. It is a hoot. :D

Raven: Ouchies. :( I am glad you have Carmen to comfort you. It does help. ❤ Just hope you will be in less pain soon. :squishes: I have to google that word though, can't remember hearing that one before.

Paddy Immersing yourself in a language makes a lot of sense. Easier said than done though when you are still in school. :P I guess that is what we did with English, without even thinking about it. At least it has helped me expand my vocabulary a lot. Grammar and spelling not as much. Our German teacher, at least the one we had from 10th to 13th grade was pretty fluent, so we were lucky there. She was really nice too. Not all teachers we had were able to do realistic English accents though. :P Not even the old kings and queens? We did learn about some of the most important ones from my country.

Listening exam is something I have never heard of before, wouldn't that be covered in spoken sorta? By being asked questions in that language? I dunno. It was a bit nerve wrecking being assigned a random subject... or if you were lucky the teachers were on a strike and exams had to be cancelled. :P It sounds nice to be able to pick a subject you feel more comfortable with. :) We stopped having subjects like music, arts, cooking etc after 9th grade and never had an exam in either. We got our final grade based off tests and stuff instead. I am surprised they did the music exam course just for you! Pretty nice really. :)

we had a fluent German teacher.... but she was assigned the lower level students, so we had to make do with a teacher who struggled with the accent :P

Nope, especially not the old kings and queens! I took History to exam level, and it was the History of Medicine, and the American West - after I'd swotted up on Native Americans, the teacher then told us to not answer any questions about them (we could pick from three questions in the exam to write an essay on) and to answer the ones about other aspects instead.... I stuck with answering the one about the Native Americans as that was the most interesting part for me :P

Kind of - it was listening to a recorded spoken voice, then writing down the answer / translating what they said. So that was meant to prove we could understand it when someone was speaking German ;) The spoken exam was just proving we could speak the language (honestly they made it more complicated than it needed to be!!) At least you still got a final grade for those ;) They weren't overly keen to start with, but once Mum got involved, the deputy head teacher backed down and allowed the course to run ;) I had two teachers (one was the music teacher, the other was the maths teacher) taking it in turns to do a lesson after school for an hour each week as they couldn't fit it into the timetable for me to have a lesson at 'proper' times!

That is always fun. The german teacher I had from 8-9 grade loved talking about archery. o_O Apparantly he was some sort of judge for competition. Whe he thought that was relevant or even interesting to us kids I still don't know.

That is weird to me. England has such a long and rich history, and the kings/queens are all a part of it. o-o From what I can remember they focused mostly on Scandinavian history (like Vikings etc etc) and Europe in general in our history lessons. Native Americans are the most fascinating part of North American history to me as well. It is sad how they have been treated. Seems like a common theme with indigenous people.

I found it difficult to understand German people, as they spoke so fast! But that wouldn't be a problem at your school I would think. Pretty cool of your mum to stand up for you like that. ^_^

So the er sucked on Wednesday and I was wiped out by the time i got home. My doctor told me to come in on Thursday so thats what i did. Up his long ramp with my scooter. He was surprised to see me on it. Asked if i could walk on it. I told him I could but bot without extreme pain. He frowned. The hospital had put a cheap air splint on it wand he wasn’t pleased that even with that I couldn’t walk. I told him i had fallen that morning too. I got caught up with a shoe and as I tried to remedy it, i fell. Luckily i fell onto my bed but it still hurt both my legs.

He touched a spot below the ankle bone that had me screaming in pain. I joked he found something. He said it does seem i have a ligament sprain. He was going to read the xray results and im to see him on Monday. So i guess he’ll let me know if he thinks we should do the mri or wait and see him if gets better first.

Lene its a great show! We get it weekly on our local public tv station.

Paddy good luck!

that's a totally random subject! Although there was one kid at my school who did archery - he was meant to come with his dad to do an archery session at the summer fete, but he didn't turn up (it wasn't really the 'cool' thing to be doing :P) so it was just his dad running it :P

nods Certainly in junior school we just learnt about the Romans.... that was the only history we ever covered (the city has a big Roman heritage), even though there's plenty of things nearby from other eras that would've been interesting to learn! That would've been quite interesting to learn about European history as well, to see how it all kind of fits in with the history of your own country ;)

I find anyone speaking in their native language speaks too fast for me (unless they're speaking English :P), but I guess they'd also struggle with the speed I speak 😇 It helped that there were only 60 (I think) kids in the entire year group at that point, so being a small school they were able to be a bit more accommodating ;) (although a larger school wouldn't have had the problem of nobody else wanting to take the subject!)

My favourite characters from Keeping Up Appearances have to be Onslow and Daisy - I really wish they'd made a spin-off series featuring them :P

Yowch that sounds horrible :( Hopefully you don't end up falling again over the weekend, and you can rest up before you have to go back on Monday squishes

It's been a busy week! Mum and I came to the conclusion that I should replace the car regardless of what the insurance company said, as it's been getting pricey to run, and there's a potential it wouldn't pass the MOT without more work as there'd been an odd fuel drip last summer while the car was on the drive. I found a potential replacement car online (from a local-ish garage) on Tuesday evening, which Mum & Dad went to view on Thursday.

Yesterday the insurance company rang to say the old car could be repaired, or I could have the cash in hand and they'd take the car away. Having cash in hand would give me more than having the old car repaired and selling it. So I've gone for the cash option and my new car should be delivered soon (hopefully!). It still doesn't seem right that it's only 10 days since the supermarket delivery truck skidded on the snow!
