thanks. I hope the pain stops soon. Oh by the way, I regret to tell you that your bday gift will be delayed. The cost of these doctor visits is really hurting us. -sigh-
the supermarket I was in, had a similar thing where you only ever did one task, so I was always on the tills and never allowed to stock shelves or anything different. I couldn't have done that job for long, as I was getting mind-numbingly boring! ROFL that's one way of getting people onto the tills!! ;)
I tried making it sound as silly as possible when I was till training someone, as I thought it'd be more likely they'd remember it!
I wish I'd had a teacher point out which the heavy-weight subjects were - because there were only 7 of us doing A-levels(!) all the teachers wanted their course to run, so they were keen for as many of us as possible to sign up! Unfortunately that meant I was encouraged to take German, English Lit, Maths and Physics.... which was way too much! 😊
How's the pain today? You did a great job with the Virus outfit ;)
Although it's obviously not positive that he caught covid, the ward he's been moved to is so much better than the previous one, and the staff are much nicer as well ;) He seems a lot brighter & much less confused than he was, so hopefully the infection's clearing / cleared, and the delirium won't make a reappearance ;)

im not sure to be honest. It hurts but at the moment its not unbearable. But i have been taking more pain meds.
Definitely not a good thing but the new ward does sound a lot better!
Please don't worry about gifts, you can always send me something on here if you wish. :) I totally understand that money must be tight right now after all your treatments. :hugs:
Mind-numblingly boring is the just about the right way to describe it. Those 8 hours days at work felt so long. O_O Of course we got breaks.. but still. At least the customers were mostly nice and I got to serve a couple of very well known people. I think I was just fed up that day. And I could not let our customers wait now could I? 👼 Making things sound as silly as possible is a fun idea. I know i would probably pay more attention then if I was being trained.
That does sound like a very heavy work load. You want time to do more than just study, or else you will soon get burned out. They teacher should have thought that through. We didn't have A-level classes in our schools... they mostly have the philosophy that everyone should get the same education. Which doesn't always benefit the brightest students that are not always challenged enough.

ooo I love today's look - which skin is that?
We had an update today - mentally he's a lot clearer, but he's currently refusing to get up and walk around.... if he can't move around unsupervised, then he won't be able to be back at his flat. The next update should be from a physiotherapist, but I would say that'd be unlikely until after the Easter weekend.
Hopefully the pain meds are having the desired effect squishes
serving well-known people is always a bonus in working in retail! I think I'd just had enough of boring classes at school, and figured if I could make it the most ridiculous combination of things possible, then it had to make it seem more of a fun training session ;) Although it did surprise the manager that I'd roped in to pretend to be a customer.... he thought he was doing one transaction for each method of payment (and probably thought I wouldn't bother training them on the vouchers & other less popular payment methods) :P
That's an interesting philosophy - were you all taking the same level of classes then? They changed it to make kids have to stay in education until they're 18 a while ago now, but that can be anything from an apprenticeship, college, or A-levels so there's still a lower level option for those who can't handle / don't want to do A-level stuff ;)

Even if the payment methods are unpopular, it is good to know how it is done. I worked for a temp worker agency for a while, and got sent to all sorts of stores and other places. IT was interesting trying to do your job with minimal training. THey didn't want to spend a lot of time training you if you were only going to be there for a short while.
Yup. Same level of classes. Except for those with special needs that get special classes, schools or other assistance. Grade 1-10 is mandatory here. (was only 9 years when I were still in school).. but you are also guaranteed 3 more years in school. Were you can start learning a trade or just study to get the credits needed to go to uni/college. So that means that you are done when you are about 18 years old.

there's definitely not much worse than only having partial training and still being expected to know everything about how to do the job! I can see why places don't want to train temp workers as much as permanent staff, but they should still be training everyone up to know how to do the job properly! Having said that though, I didn't get any real training for my last admin job, because the person I had taken over from had already left, my boss was off on maternity leave, and her replacement was on a 2 week holiday o.O
That's an interesting way of doing it - can you pick subjects that you hadn't studied at school to get the credits for uni, or did that still need to be specific subjects?

And to make it more fun, you would sometimes get a call in the morning, asking if you could work right away. :P I had a lot of experience working as a cashier, so that helped. I sometimes got other types of gigs too. Now that sounds like an interesting start to a new job. o_O How did you get on with not getting much help at all?
If you start working towards a trade, you can also do another year where you get the subjects/credits needed to qualify for uni/college. There are certain subjects like Norwegian language/literature you need to take. I don't know too much about it since I didn't take that route myself.

I definitely wouldn't have liked that short amount of notice before working! Although I guess it made it more interesting in a way, as you never knew where you'd be offered a chance to work next? ;) It wasn't easy - most of the first week was just doing whatever jobs people gave me, until my temporary boss was back in after her holiday! Although they even messed up on the letter I had offering me the job, as that said "on your first day report to...." and of course it was the boss who was on maternity leave, who was named :P
That sounds interesting in that you still have to take language and literature even if you aren't planning on taking them at uni / college! I guess it's one way to ensure everyone still studies them ;)
[edit] Happy Birthday!!!!!! Your package seems to have finally cleared customs (yay for accidental tracking so I can figure out where it is :P), so possibly it might arrive with you today? :D

aww you're so sweet. -hugs- I admit, it's really really difficult. I'm worried because I wound up having to have that MRI the doctor was prolonging. It hurt so much on Sunday morning and I swear I heard a pop. Monday I had to go to him for the mri order and I got it done today. It was super painful to walk around the hopsital too. It's kinda worrying as you'd think it'd be getting better--which is why we now need to know. If it is just being slow then at least we know--if not, I guess it'll mean surgery or something... idk. I'm trying my best not to let it get me down but it's difficult and I don't want to complain you know. Anyway, anything fun happening soon for you?
Also HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
IT's the water skin. LOL I knew you'd like this :D by Raven I'm glad he's clearer mentally but not good if he won't walk... He can get a blood clot and all.
the meds do dull the pain, so that's a good thing :D
it worked really well, and today's one works well too :D
Well the physio got him out of bed and walking to the chair (albeit next to the bed) - the ward he's on specialise in movement problems, so they don't have them all sitting in bed all day long ;) The physio wants him to move to a care home placement (that's 4 weeks (I think?) courtesy of the NHS), as he's not really suited to community hospital as that's more geared up for rehab to get you back to where you were movement-wise, and the physio doesn't think he'll have much improvement. It could be that he needs to be in community hospital while they wait for a care home place to be available, but I'm hoping they won't need him to move locations more than the bare minimum necessary, as that's going to confuse him more! ;)

Thank you! And thanks again for the lovely gifts. :huggles: I was thinking it should start getting better by now, after all your treatments. When will you get the results from the mri? I hope that will help clear some things up. :fingers, toes and talons crossed: Mom visited today. We stopped by some of the stores around here, picked up pizza and strawberries to munch on. :) Invited my family over next Sunday for coffee and cake and whatnot. :)
It sure got less boring since you constantly dealt with different things. :P I would have preferred a more regular job at the time, but of course the income was welcome and needed. I would have felt so lost not even knowing who to report to. Sounds like they were not exactly the most organized workplace. :P
Language/writing skills is always needed when you start uni/college so it is not a complete waste. Some of the subjects I could probably have done without. But of course other people would end up needing them later on. School systems are so different from country to country it can get a bit confusing. :)
Thank you! And thanks again for all the gifts. :hugs: I got notified that a package is on its way and most likely will be here tomorrow. I think it has to be the one from you. :)

I suppose there's a fine line between a nice regular job where you know you've got work the next week, and having enough variety to keep your interest and to not get bored! ;)
That's a good point - certainly writing essays for A-levels was hard enough at times, so I can see why the language ones would be helpful for Uni :) I actually found RE (religious education) the best subject for learning how to write essays, as most of the course was spent debating things - I was able to use that kind of debating style in my essays :P
Yay! Hopefully it won't be too hard to open (I think I might have overdone the parcel tape, just making sure none of the contents could escape! 😇)

thanks. Lol tie dye just screamed hippie xd. Love the storm look today. Sound’s challenging. Hugs
You’re welcome. Yeah, me too. I think that’s why it hit me so hard. I thought I was nearly done. Sigh Sounds lovely!
and today's one is amazing! :D
I couldn't resist a stormy look seeing as we had torrential showers and some thunder rumbling around yesterday ;) ....although that does mean I need to check on how much water got into the car (again) - I've got to go to the garage to collect a new rear-view mirror either Friday or Saturday, so if I can figure out which seal(s) the water comes in through, I can ask them much new seals would cost (and if it's something I can try fitting myself, or if it'd need them to do it) ;)
[edit] The water definitely comes in through the base of the window seal and not through the door seal (at least not the water that I've found in the car so far!) - so at least I know what I should be asking about :P

No one can blame you for that. Sounds like the mri is a good idea to see if there is more going on that needs to be adressed. :hugs:
Yup. It is not always easy to find people to cover shifts if someone calls in sick last minute so they will use temp agencies. I was a temp worker for kinder gardens too for a while.
Exactly! It teaches you critical thinking, how to do research among other things. :) I used AI recently. Asked it to write a story about a cat for me. And it did it so fast. Sounded a lot like a childrens story a human being could write too. I was floored! Kids might stop needing to write essays now. :P
Hehe.. I always open them carefully so that I don't ruin anything inside. :)

I can imagine being a temp worker in kindergardens was a lot more challenging than doing that in retail? Apart from anything else, there's a lot more names to learn! :P
I've never tried AI for writing a story, but I have tried AI art generators - some of them look fantastic, but either I'm not putting in the right prompts, or it really can't get the hang of what people are meant to look like! ;)

its a great ha :D Well I guess its good that you've located the source, Hopefully now you can find a way to get it fixed and hopefully lower cost as well.
-nods- I find out tomorrow what the results were and what it'll mean for me. I'm very nervous.
Best of luck today! I hope everything goes well. :hugs:
You are absolutely right. Learning the names was a challenge since we had large groups of kids. But at least you didn't really need much training per say. I would just play with the kids, help them with diapers or take them to the bathroom, help with meals etc.
I have not tried AI art generators. I might have to give that one a try. It is fun to play around with AI, and be amazed at what it can do!

that sounds like when I had a week's work experience in a special needs school - I was a kind of volunteer classroom helper for the week ;) But thankfully there were only 7 or 8 kids in that class, so I didn't need to remember too many names ;)
I've been playing with the AI art generator on NightCafe as they have daily challenges to create something with a particular theme ;) If I avoid anything with people (or animals!) in, some of it looks scarily good considering it's just made with AI!
sits and admires your HA Now that is utterly perfect! :D
Of course the disadvantage is that I park on a hill, so that probably makes the water more obvious when it comes in, than if I was parked on the flat.... which also might explain why the previous owner was probably oblivious to it!
[edit] I got the rear view mirror today (which was simple to replace for myself, given they wanted 70 quid for a mechanic to do it!), and while I was there they had a mechanic come over to check the back window seal. He removed & re-fitted it, so all we need now is more rain (or testing it with a watering can again :P) to see if that's fixed the problem :D All the seal re-fitting cost me was a bar of chocolate (he was willing to do that for free, but I figured he'd earnt a bar of chocolate :P)
