Ended up going still. Enjoyed the movie a lot, even tho I don't love them as much as the original HP movies. xD

I am not surprised. Translators have gotten better over the years, but they are still far from perfect.

Haha! Sounds more like the person they hired to do the job was out of the office that day.

That is the thing, you kinda have to write about whatever the client needs. :P

I think if you're looking at something that isn't written in "formal" language (more like the chat speak you'd see online, or with teenagers for instance) then the translators just don't understand what they're looking at ;) but they definitely come in useful for some things :)

hehe I'd have thought they would at least check it back on google translate or something though, before sending the sign away to be made - at least then they'd have a rough idea if it was right or not! :P

Yep I definitely wouldn't be able to do that job!!

why thank you. I got the book cw thingy the other night and had to try it out.
yeah I wish it was easier here. You could spend hours checking all the labels. :/

glad you still got to go. And enjoyed it even if it wasn't as much as the hp movies.

To be fair, it would take a looot to top HP for me. ;)

:nods: If i wrote in my own dialect in google translate, it wouldn't understand much I bet. :P

Proof reading is for the weak apparantly. The manual I got with my washer/dryer almost made me want to throw it out the window. lol So confusing.

it was definitely worth getting! :D Yeah, I check the labels for certain things that I know cause me problems, and it's really irritating when they sneak a recipe change into something that's been fine, but then suddenly has a problem ingredient added in :K I'm fortunate that it's not an allergy stopping me having those things, but it can feel like shopping takes forever (I usually look at the supermarket website when I make the shopping list, then I can check it should be suitable before Dad goes to buy it :P) Although now a lot of companies have started listing things as "natural flavouring" so I haven't a clue what that actually is!

Maybe you should give that a try some time ;) I guess proof-readers cost more money than they want to spend!

haha I know exactly about that :) Anything happening this week?

I think so too :D Thank goodness for google now right. Makes it a lot easier to check labels.

Soccer match tonight, and a very fun doc appointment Wednesday. That is mostly it I think. Hows your foot doing?

I might just for the laughs. Even people from my own country can have trouble with some words if I speak in my own dialiect. :P

If I've got stuck, I end up looking at the manufacturer's website, but even then it's not always possible to find the product let alone the ingredients list!

That's a bit like some of our regional phrases - they might make sense word-for-word, but you don't necessarily understand what they mean (like the Northern phrase I came across in a book as a young kid "there's a duck" - apparently I was looking through the pictures for the duck, but it meant something like 'you're a good kid' :P)

To be fair, that is a weird (albeit cute) way to call someone a good kid. lol

it certainly wasn't the most obvious of phrases to use! I think maybe those books were meant to only be used in northern regions where they used that phrasing, rather than being used across the entire country :P

hehe.. When I lived in Oslo and was working retail I had start speaking more like the people from that area, or else they would not understand me. o_O My language can sound very different depending on where you are from, so many dialects.

now that would make things pretty complicated! We get so many tourists here that when I started work, it took me quite a while to kind of 'tune in' to all the different accents and dialects (from places over here plus overseas) as I'd not been used to hearing all those variations! ;)

Sorry I've been a bit MIA. I've been under a lot of stress. Mum's sugar levels have continued to plummet at the hospital and I've had to call at midnight, and 4 am to check on her/ have her call the nurse to check her levels. She has needed lots of support and it's been very stressful/draining on me. I haven't had much sleep. She came home yesterday but in order to do it, I've had to find a glucose metre and get it shipped here--but also had to find a way to get one for the night because the one she had was not giving accurate readings and was too dangerous to have a metre you can't trust is accurate. Anyway for over 7 hours yesterday I tried to get a nap but every time I was nearly asleep the phone rang, door bell rang, cat woke me, etc. I FINALLY got a short nap at 8pm. It's been a really tough time and I just couldn't even try to reply, sorry.

I totally understand. Hope your foot is healing and that your mums blod sugar levels gets under controll soon as well as your stress level. :hugs:

I noticed that with my bad hearing. It is much easier for me to hear what people are saying when it is the voices of someone I know well, rather than strangers.

hopefully now your Mum's back home (and with the glucose monitor as well) things will settle down a bit more squishes

I was working on the cigarette kiosk in the supermarket (one of my first jobs) and a chap from the Indian takeaway down the road came in asking for a specific cigarette. Apart from the obvious that I don't smoke (and didn't have a clue what most of the brand names were), I struggled with the strong accent as well.... I felt a complete prat and had to use an excuse of having had a bad cold which had messed with my hearing a bit (the chap behind him in the queue kindly pointed out where it was on the shelf for me) 😊

Sending hugs!

A strong accents sure doesn't help. Very lucky that there were someone there to help out. Here they had the brilliant idea to make it a law that any packets for tacobbo, cigarretes, snuff etc needs to be the same colour. They even went as far as to research which colour people find the least attractive to turn them off buying them. Ended up being this ugly green/brown colour. lol Must be a nightmare for the people selling them. Smoking cigarettes seems far less popular, but loads of people use snuff.

thanks :d Niamh wanted to make the most of our warm sunny weather before it gets chilly again next week :P

A while after that, they decided that all tobacco products should be off display so they aren't visible at the tills - which probably makes it even harder for the staff member, as you can't just turn around and look at the display to see which products are where!

It is the same here, they have to be off display. Fun times. lol I am very glad I never even tried smoking. I figure my pepsi max/diet coke addiction is better. :P

Same here - I've never smoked at all, and I absolutely adored Pepsi Max until my orthodontist told me I had to stop drinking it when I had braces :K
