another family member who lives here has most of his care, since he needs to be fed every few hours round the clock and I work full time so I couldn't do it myself. Yet he still always loves me so much that if I don't come home on a particular day he takes a turn for the worse and can't eat even the special food which is the only thing he usually can keep down. He is several pounds underweight because of his digestive issues.
I have just ordered a few items: Zylkene which is a calming factor found in cats milk for newborn kittens; a lavender diffuser which seems to be a calming smell for cats; an all natural calming supplement that has good ratings. I'll test these out before I leave and see if they seem to be any help.
I already have Feliway which can calm him a little but not enough for this problem.
I worked with Zylkene for a cat once, too, and found it soothing. Feliway, not so much. I don´t want my cats to inhale chemical things all the time, too, so I think Zylkene is a good thing to try. I use homeopathic remedies, too, and some people I know use Bach flowers. There are certainly ways to help. ^-^

I'm glad to hear Zylkene seemed to work for you. I have hope it will help him. All I want is for him to be able to keep his food down while I'm gone and not die or make himself so sick he dies soon after I return... it would be too sad if that happened
I can feel you there! ^-^ I started always 5 days before the special moments.

I'll plan to do that, then, start 5 days in advance. When the stuff arrives I'll test it on him once to make sure he doesn't have a bad reaction to it.
I don´t think so, the caseine is a stuff he drank during childhood already. Yet yes, you never know with additives. ^-^

this is a cat who has had bad reactions to fish, beef, dairy, turkey, gelatin, and even chicken in the past. So it's a possibility even if he was fine with it as a kitten that he can't handle it now. He is OK with pork and rabbit which is what he gets now... and so far corn products somehow also don't upset his digestion. We can also still give him yeast supplements and treats, he likes those a lot, and malt flavor.
Oh, that´s bad, because the capsules have gelatin in it, at least here in Germany.

the instructions say you can open the capsule and put the powder on the food though...
Ah yes, I do that all the time, too. However, I mix it with water and apply it with a syringe oral. So I am sure the content is swallowed in whole.

I've been watching a video of cats who are pregnant/just had kittens on youtube

One black cat named Ramona had kittens today, the other two are due soon. Ramona had five kittens, all tabbies.
It's taking my mind off my worries about my cat. He is sicker & we may have to put him to sleep soon. :(
Oh no! What is his base sickness? Anything known? How old is he?

He is probably 9 or 10, he has some kind of progressive autoimmune inflammation, intestinal food intolerance. I guess it seems like a cat version of Crohn's disease.
I had an IBD cat once, Linus. He lived up to 19. Yes, he had bad phases yet they were always followd by better ones. keeps fingers crossed

The vet came up with some ideas. We have a referrral.
