I had a similar experience! Played all 10 games as a healer because my teammates wouldn't touch them with a ten-foot pole. Won six games. I didn't have lag issues, but problems with teammates rage quitting a couple of the games. From my experience that always results in failure. Overall I ranked silver (approximately 1750-ish) so that's a bummer xD The sad part is that one of the games, I got gold medals for the number of eliminations and damage dealt as ZENYATTA.
Idk if I've ever gone a complete game without Roadhog making an appearance on the enemy team lol. It's so discouraging when you're playing 3v3, which later dwindles down to 1v1 and it's you against a Roadhog, when you're playing a character who can't heal themselves but he can. LOL Roadhog is the one character on Overwatch that just grinds my gears (no hate towards any Roadhog fans; I just don't enjoy him bahaha)
And thanks! My best friend's family used to be big in the bee-business (they had a bee farm for honey!) that I used to help out with when I was younger so I enjoy that skin for that reason. But oh my gosh I know the feeling! I have no other skins for most of my main characters, unless if I bought them myself. Ironically I always get Roadhog skins xD
I KNOW, RIGHT? Zen's my healer main if I have to heal, I've been told I'm a terrifying attack Zen and even playing him for comp did nothing. x_x
Upside, I had my absolute best Hanzo game today. I had the entire team hunting me down, lmao. I also shot a Sombra out of her cloak midjump off the tower in Eichenwalde.

As a Mercy main, I have to say most players at my level (low competitive) suck at protecting healers or in general keeping track of tactical status at all. Mercy needs protection from Pharah, Junkrat, Symmetra and Winston most. All of those can burst damage enough to quickly kill a Mercy and none of them require good aim to do so, so movement won't save you.
Like, Widowmaker can one-shot me, but I don't worry about her too much. Positioning and movement can handle her most of the time. Rein can take me out but avoiding his charge is normally fairly easy. I can take out Sombras pretty reliably 1v1 and Tracers perhaps just a touch less easy. Genji, all I'm really scared of is his ult. Same with Hanzo.
pokes head in here
hello friends i've been watching this thread for a while.
My level is "quickplay only because I'm scared of comp", so I shouldn't be surprised. But I always am, because "protect the medic" is like, the first lesson in an FPS, come on.
But yeah, the other team had a Winston who was really trying to pick Mercy off...unfortunately, I was always hanging around with a flashbang and a higher damage output, so they didn't accomplish it much. (Also, I love how Winstons are always surprised when you just...run under their shield to shoot at them. NOT SO HELPFUL NOW, IS IT.)
HELLO AND WELCOME
i like you already
i'm a zen main and pretty much play comp-only, aside from the arcade mode when it resets. i wish more people thought like you lmao. even in plat i still have to make reminders like hey. get this winston off me pls
c:
I do a lot of healing myself, because god knows 99% of games have NO HEALER at the side until you do it yourself, so I'm all too aware of how annoying it is when people just let you die (and then spam I NEED HEALING while you respawn to rub it in. If you wanna get healed, you need to kill these dudes for me).
But I also do a fair amount of tanking and DPS (by which I mostly mean Soldier: 76), so I try to be the kind of teammate I'd want if I was on healing duty, ie, hunting for Genjis and constantly whipping biotic fields at me.
I wouldn't worry about placements so much because the following matches are what matters since you will be getting A LOT of SR as the game is trying to put you in the correct rank. I finished low Diamond last season, got placed mid Plat but because I was winning 40-50 SR per match and loosing 8-12 SR, I easily got back into Diamond. Oh, and by the way, I'm a Mercy main although I've played Rein and D.Va this season.
I know how you feel about lack of protection, but I gotta say that in higher ranks Tracer and Genji is what you should be fearing most as they can EASILY kill you in a matter of a second as they will literally follow you everywhere and deal more damage to you before you can kill them (Tracer has accuracy and Genji has the dash). Winston is always a pain for healers and it is a MUST that the team fights him when he's on them and if they don't, those are not going to get pretty far, I can tell you that. As a Mercy main in mid diamond, my order from most dangerous is Tracer > Genji > Winston > Pharah. With Symmetra and Junkrat (both of which are not very common in higher ranks) I can easily create distance and deal with them that way.
Pardon me if I don't seem thrilled. That seems to just come across a bit patronizing.

So I lied on accident. I didn't rank 1750-ish. I ranked 1570-ish LOL I logged onto Overwatch after work last night and was like "Ummm excuse me?" Tbh I have the most hours played as Zen. Sometimes I like to mix it up with the others though. But I get the same rep because I have the mentality to play a healer as an offensive character, but also paying attention to when my teammates need to be healed lol.
Oh my gosh that is an impressive shot. I have games where I want to play Hanzo but then I play utter trash because my aim is most definitely not on-point. Isn't that such a satisfying feeling though? After placing in comp, I played my next game as Soldier and finally got that dang achievement for a 20 kill streak (I usually fall just short of it).
Hooray for Zen mains high fives I love me some Zen lol.
I, too, told a minor fib. I'm not 1750-ish, I'm lower. I'm nearly bronze ranked this time around. x_x;

Isn't it painful? I am almost bronze as well. I had two awesome games in a row which got me up a good bit, but then we lost miserably the third game and my rank went back to where it was before. So that's a bummer! The season just started and I already want a re-do lol.
Have you gotten Hanzo's new anniversary skin yet?
I'm just so many levels of done with it, I'm never going to get a golden bow.
YES! Of course, I got it the first day, lmao. It was his icon that eluded me for about four days after the start. I have everything for him except the golden bow. Which, like I said, I'm never going to get because of how fubar'd the ranking is right now.

zen deserves all the love, i will protect him with my bare hands. who else do you play?
I figured you would've had his new skin lol. I like it a lot! I don't currently have it though. I had bought his Lone Wolf skin before the event started and instantly regretted it because now I wish I had that currency for the new event skins lol. Ahh that gold bow would be perfect though. I forget how much a golden weapon costs tbh. I feel like after my ten placement matches, I always rank low and THEN start to win games afterwards.
I was hoping to hold off on having to purchase more loot boxes but I feel like I'm going to have to at this point xD I'd like to have Genji's but forgot that I'd also like Tracer's and Pharah's as well. I have the tendency to let the last date of events creep up on me without realizing it.
Oh I agree. I'm rocking his Ra skin which I simply adore. Other than Zenyatta, I typically play as Soldier: 76, Sombra, Mercy and Genji. I mainly say Genji because somehow he ranks second on most played characters but I don't recall playing him that much?? Maybe when I first got the game I suppose.
I need to play the Defense and especially Tank characters more. I like Hanzo and Junkrat but just don't give them enough play time. I always pick the same few lol.
Yeah, I've noticed that when I face good opposition. I'm only in Bronze so the quality of the Tracers and Genjis is not that high and I can deal with most of them easily, whereas Winston is still dangerous if your team doesn't help even if the player isn't that good. Symmetra and Junkrat are generally only dangerous if they get the drop on you -- again, poorer DPS situational awareness means they have more luck with that at my level. Mostly it's a matter of keeping a team-mate in line of sight to GA to.
I wish the game gave me a mallet to hit Reinhardts over the head until they stop trying to charge into the enemy and 1v6ing them and expecting heals.
I'm sorry if you felt that, I was merely trying to explain that placements shouldn't be as concerning as the game will give you a lot of SR following them and I heard this happen to lower ranks too. I said my rank and the characters I played so you could sort of get the idea. I suppose by now it might not matter as I don't now how much you've played after placements, but I hope you get to rank up. I was Bronze in season 3 and I support any lower rank because I used to be one of them too, I don't look down on anyone and firmly believe that one can get to where they want with improvement.
HAHAHA I wish to do that even in diamond because I swear Reins expect too much out of healers sometimes, but Ana might be the one to help with them the most because of her long range healing, and I can't play her. ;v; I mainly do Mercy and Zen for support. Also, I used to be in Bronze in season 3 so all that you're talking about are like flashbacks of moments I wished I had forgotten. XD Also, because you say so yourself, DPS are not always good, why don't you practice some DPS and OffTank? After seeing the mistakes people would do, I had to rely on 76 and D.Va to get me up closer to Silver before I could do more Mercy, and even now sometimes I do Tank and rarely do DPS. As a Mercy or Ana you see a lot of what goes on in the battlefield and you learn a lot from that. Plus, playing those other roles helps practice your battle Mercy. ;P I just wished people would try and play Mercy sometimes because I feel like a lot of people don't realize positioning is important regardless of your role.
The Rein thing makes me kind of glad I stick to quickplay, because then no one cares if I just let them die, lmao. YOU MADE YOUR CHOICE, REINHARDT.
I've been practicing with 76 a fair bit but I think I need to be better to cut it in competitive. I'm an OK D.Va and not too bad at Orisa either, so I may try the two of them.
My battle Mercy game is strong, though! Play enough quickplay and you realize Mercy can DPS better than half the DPS while also healing ... a nice headshot or two helps them along nicely.
& I agree, playing Mercy gives you a great understanding of the bigger picture which helps even when not healing.
lol I too, am terrified of comp. I already lose my mind with overly competitive quickplay teammates, lord knows I can't handle the real big leagues 😅
I main D.Va, Junkrat, Lucio and I also play Pharah but I'm not neeeeearly as good with her as those three.
Has anyone played the new total mayhem arcade mode? It's utter chaos and it's brilliant. I have a ton of fun playing junkrat and lucio in particular in that mode.
