Unfortunately, I couldn't think of an original novel idea. But I did come up with an idea for a fanfiction. Can I write that for NaNoWriMo, or does it have to be original?

: I'm sure you can write just about anything that is novel length. The only requirements are 1. you wrote it, 2. it's 50,000 words, and 3. you wrote it during the month of November 2014.
Okay, cool! I really have trouble coming up with ideas.

Ah! Im so excited! Im almost to 4k words, so Im ahead of my own schedule. I completed the challenge last year but barely. This year I am so psyched its not funny.
Ah, no worries. Managed to find a few people over on the nano boards to war with last night to finish up my word count for the day. :)
And speaking of which, anyone in for a 15 min at :45?
- Fanfic used to be "not allowed" but people always did it anyway, and now there's even a fanfic category for your novel genre.
- I need to get into writing mode before I do any word wars, which means that I need to actually start!
At the rate I'm going I will finish at infinity!
I'm getting involved too :)

Two days down and I've hit par both days!! And that was even taking into account that I spent the entire weekend at a friend's house for his birthday/Halloween party!
Super psyched so far that things are going a lot faster than I had thought. I'm sure it'll slow down as soon as I'm out of the initial set-up and establishment of characters, but 1667 words is a lot less than I remembered it being. As someone who usually only writes a ~2000-2500 word chapter (or even a full ficlet) at a time, switching to 1667 words a day should be a much bigger jump than it felt like it has been.
I'm getting there, though! These are the same characters I wrote about last year, but then I put them aside until this year. It honestly feels really good to "see" them again. Does that make sense?
Feeling happy that I actually finally got started after being far too exhausted the first two days. I even managed to churn out more words than needed for today and feel confident that I'll at least get some of the way towards those elusive 50k words! Plus I managed to stop in the middle of a chapter so I'll know where to start tomorrow.
Heading to the library today to work hard! Woooo

Midday at work for the first Monday of NaNoWriMo and I'm remembering how hard it is to juggle writing and working. I wish I could just call out sick for the whole month and spend it writing (but the very idea is ridiculous and impossible).
I'm going to get it done. I know that! It's just so frustrating when you want to write but there are reports to get done and business to take care of. Why can't writing be my full-time job?? Maybe some day...
I think that's why I gave up 2 years ago - simply couldn't juggle it all. :/ That's the pro of being home sick all the time, I guess. (The con is of course that writing causes my headache to flare up.)
I felt a bit of a writer's block today, as I had no idea where my story was headed... suddenly it had taken me to a point where I had to come up with either a whole new world or a secret society of sorts, and I'm really bad at making up those kind of things. I wrote for three hours to reach today's word count goal, but it was worth it. :) I found Neil Gaiman's essay "Where do you get your ideas?" helpful.
I've done NaNo in years I was unemployed and thus writing was basically my full-time job. It is not really much easier; mostly there's more wikipedia and netflix, and maybe a little more writing. If there are in-person write-ins in your area, making time in your after-work schedule for them can be a big help in carving out some dedicated time. And remember that even if you can't make enough time for 50,000 words, making time for any words is progress toward a writing habit.
- Yeah, juggling work and writing is hard. I thought juggling writing and school was hard, but them I remembered that I just wrote during class :P
- 3 hours is about how long I usually take to get to the minimum word count :P I've just developed a bad work ethic. Need to get back into Nano mode, I don't think I've been there since 2010. Glad you found something to help you out and maybe inspire you. I'm usually pretty good at writing myself out of holes, but I'm really bad at writing my way back to the plot again afterwards.
If I just write on my own, it can easily take me an hour or more to get down 500 words. That's why I like word wars since they kind of force me to focus in and get words down even if they're not perfect. And then after I've got the actual story down, then I can go back through everything slowly and edit it into something closer to what I wanted it to be. Otherwise I'm likely to find myself rewriting the same sections over and over again and getting nowhere.
- same. wanna do a word war??
