WAH! The problem with the master cylinder was it's the incorrect part. We checked something that should have been done from the start, com pare the new part to the old. There we would have seen a key difference, the seating for brake lines. The old part has a section in the bottom to allow proper seating, while the new is a tapered bottom.

JAG managed to buy a correct replacement, but will have to wait until nest weekend to bleed and install.

Mine now home from today's antics, and want to unwind before turning to. Mine need a drink with dinner.

: Trial and Error is a legitimate working strategy when working with machinery, it seems. I mean....look at SpaceX....launch a couple of million dollars into the sky--it blows up-- and voila! It's called a successful launch. I mean, didn't Thomas Edison invent the whole Trial and Error method of inventing? Didn't he attempt 3000 different ways to make a commercially viable light bulb and say, "I've discovered 3000 methods of how to NOT make a lightbulb."

You keep up the good work there on your motor vehicle automobile there. You are discovering methods of how to NOT fix it, for later reference. Just call it 'Rocket Science.'

That mine does, another problem was found while looking for a noise. The noise is inside the valve cover, suggesting a piece of metal or so is being thrown around. Mine won't open up the top until a clear, calm day comes.

Mine will still make an inspection of the work done previously, having ruled out other sources of the noise. That, and make another pass on the ongoing Superfund cleanup of mine tool room.

[edit]Later on mine made an attempt to remove the valve cover, which will be towards another test. But mine made a mistake in the process, which resulted in the seal breaking at one point. It comes as no surprise, but it means that mine have another item to add to the list of repairs. Fortunately, mine was able to reinstall everything before winds picked up and dust blew around. Mine unsure if mine car is usable after this, considering the prior...

: My author Mark, back in the 80's, took his old Oldsmobuick into a shop to fix a thingie. During the repair (which they were never able to perform correctly),they broke off a piece of the metal wiring harness strap near the carburetor and it got sucked into the engine, causing one of the exhaust valves to get stuck open. Talk about a rough running engine. Mark ended up taking the engine apart down to the block, took the cylinder head to the shop and plonked it down on the service-writer's desk. He demanded them to make the repair right. Not only did they refund him for the original repair, but they put the engine back together free of charge. All he had to pay for was the gasket set.

You don't want pieces of metal knocking around inside your engine...

From that p[oint on, he did most of his own repairs on all his vehicles. He's pretty much done with repairs now, he's much too crumped up to lay on the floor for weeks on end in the dead of winter with the only helper being a small fuzzy greasy chatterbox.

That old 1974 Buick Electra 225 was a cluster-flub of symptoms (what some car manufacturers of the times called 'features'). I should write a book about that car. Mark got it used in 1981 and from the beginning it was a problem child. The engine blew up between the towns of Turlock and Los Banos which his wife driving his baby daughter over to see grandma, on a hot summer day. (35 miles of desolate two lane highway in the California swamp lands. ) After an engine replacement, radiator replacement and other upgrades, they were never able to keep that car from overheating. If it got stuck in traffic, the car would boil over. After that trying to start the car would drain the battery. They would have to wait 45 minutes for it to cool down, take out jumper cables, flag down some help, jumpstart the car and be on their way. They carried extra coolant, jumpers, a battery charger and 200 feet of drop cord (for when there was no-one who would offer to jump start.) When the engine caught fire one day on the way to work, Mark just let it burn. He was able to part the car for twice what he had originally paid for it. good riddance.

Faboo! Mine was able to remove two damaged shelves from mine big toolbox. This means mine can take steps to repair the damage from a fall a few days ago. At first the prospect was to take a tight squeeze with bent nose pliers, another look at the drawer catches showed a way to remove them.

Tomorrow weather permitting mine can attempt to pound out the bent metal.

Also the verdict is to buy a new valve cover gasket online, as the same part costs three times retail. But it means waiting until Friday to make the purchase.

On the far side, mine made a free trade for the Birthday suit cookies. Mine intend it for a leap year birthday as a recipient. If no one takes, back to the vault until after mine nest Vioran birthday.
