i understand that the site of short staffed, but the biggest issue is the terminology, not the proposed overhaul. we've now had several users say the same thing: just change the achievement name. that's all that this stemmed from, the whole changing up lore and art and everything is an overhaul that stemmed out of a very simple request - one that still has not been fulfilled.

redoing lore and art and all that is a nice sentiment, but that's not what's been asked for in this thread and previous ones time and time again. just change the name! unless the code for achievement names is far more complicated than it should be, we havent been given much communication in that regard, some clearer communication would be appreciated if its something of difficulty!

this exactly. with all due respect, the original request was specifically to change the achievement name. it doesn't make any sense whatsoever that instead of doing that, and then adjusting other stuff later as time allowed, it's just been left to sit. it wouldn't be such a big deal to wait for the rest if something had been done up front. it was brought up because it was negatively impacting users with DID to have to see that, and the fact that they have been made to wait for a large project to be completed rather than even a temporary change in the meantime, for well over a year, is why it feels disrespectful

again, i entirely understand that y'all are stretched extremely thin. i respect that means you have to carefully delegate tasks. but i think that you are missing the point that a lot of people here are trying to get across, which is that the issue is that the simple request was turned into something more complicated and because of that it keeps getting pushed in lieu of other things, rather than just addressing the initial, simple request. that, and the fact that it seems like we're being ignored when we point that out. in particular, it seems like the users who have DID are being ignored the most about this, when they're the ones actually impacted and hurt by the lack of action.

this is what we're saying. if the lore change is going to take so long, fine. but why couldn't the achievement be changed in the meantime, especially when that was the actual request in the first place? this is what every response has failed to answer.

Just want to add a bit of criticism:

Pet sites may not be popular like they were, but I think the crowd that do still like them are still out there. But as far as I knew, Subeta was less a pet site and more of a...I don't even know tbh, a crossbreed of Gaia and Neo. But what I'm saying is potential new people do exist.

I dunno what the solution is to that particular problem. But deterring your current users away isn't gonna help. That's all I'm gonna say because anything else I tried to write honestly isn't going to help anything.

yeah, this isn't a fair shake to the users who are here right now. 17 users have voiced out about a change of name for the sake of a modicum of comfort. many have explained why this is a harmful term. it isnt an unfounded request.

you really are shooting yourself in the foot for how long this is being pulled out, the call for a place holder to be put up in the interim is in the first page of this thread. potential name changes are on the first page of this thread.

the reason I feel that folk are getting ornery about this is the staff responses have honestly been a nothing burger.

we will get to this in may, we will get to this in summer it will be done by autumn. the promises are hollow, and while there are probably folk reading this wondering why we give a care so much about a term? something something performative something something just block the words something something just ignore it.

it's just a needlessly insensitive term that has stuck around too long on a site that claims to be safe. when you have this many users discussing their own mental health and jumping through hoops to show why this term should be changed, it isnt a good look. it's tiring and demoralizing. subeta, i guess, just isnt what it used to be.

i've said my piece on this subject and i am done repeating myself. the solution to this issue is very simple and yet has been ignored multiple times, and so now i feel as though this thread (and honestly? this site, tbh.) is no longer worth the time, effort or investment.

I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt here and assume you didn't mean it this way, but staff constantly saying stuff like this is incredibly guilt trippy. Any time staff gets critiques now, we hear this phrase, or we hear some version of "This is a passion project." or "Keith can't even pay himself a wage." etc. You are absolutely not helping yourselves out by throwing these phrases around every time users seem 'riled up' to you. You are ACTIVELY hurting what reputation you have left.

No one here is doubting that Subeta is short staffed, but staff HAS chosen to make a mountain out of a mole hill and then act like people are being completely unreasonable to request such a minuscule amount of work be done. I cannot count the amount of times I've seen staff pat themselves on the back for being "so inclusive" and "willing to listen". This taking over a year and a half is one of the biggest disappointments I have ever felt with this site.

And as an FYI, it's not "petsites aren't popular", it's "Subeta isn't as popular." Almost every single person I know who has left Subeta didn't leave petsites. They left Subeta. It's 4am where I live, and there are 3k users on over on Flight Rising. Better than Subeta has done in YEARS during a 'dead time'. Nearly everyone who I see leave this site has left because of broken servers, broken features, broken promises, rules that need to be updated, or feeling like staff doesn't listen or doesn't care to listen.

Please do better. I know you are capable and it shouldn't take an uproar to see it. The people who are here remaining aren't expecting you to perform miracles, we're just asking for you to show you give a shit.

FWIW, Neo is also short staffed and have been for years, and are now making the effort to revitalize their site. I'm waiting for Subeta to do the same. Because Feral's right, people aren't bored with pet sites; they're bored with Subeta because the site has nothing new to offer. We've had no plots since the Team Steele vs Team Saggi plot; we're even asking for old plot reruns but have heard nothing. We haven't had an HA contest in years, or anything fun like Epicon.

Again, I don't know what the solution is. You won't accept volunteers even though plenty of people would love to help. I understand the whole "getting paid for what you do" thing, but people volunteer because they're not looking for monetary compensation; they do it because they love something that dearly.

I can 100% understand 'we're shortstaffed', 'we have less hours' when it comes to coding a new site feature.

But this is changing an achievement name. All folks asked for. Not a total revamp. I have built cloud infrastructure by myself that took less time than that.

If it takes almost 2 years to change a name, and it still hasn't been done, well, that's dire.

I'm not one of the people affected by Mono Ri's lore or achievement names, and I'm usually the kind of person who lurks threads while being skeptical about the severity of issues people raise. As such, it should speak volumes that I am willing to break my usual silence and add my voice to the pile.

Let's look over the facts: — People have been raising their issues with naming and lore for over a year now; — Taking into account the small size of the playerbase and the relatively-minor importance of this matter, a shockingly-high amount of users has chipped into this thread (including those who do not suffer from DID), which speaks highly of the dedication and love your active players have for the site and community you've built; — Feedback has been both civil and constructive, explaining not only what people find in bad taste, but also providing many ideas as to how to improve matters while maintaining similar flavour; — Those most affected by Mono Ri's circumstances have persevered in keeping their conviction active, holding firm while stating they'd be content with two simple achievement-name changes; — Given the previous point, the resolution to this matter has needlessly suffered multiple delays; — Posters are now frustrated and angered, with some pondering leaving (or having already left) over how avoidant and drawn out staff responses have become; — You do not have a dedicated writer at the moment; — Your work hours are so stifled that improvised staff writing should realistically be unfeasible for anything other than top-priority stuff; — Multiple big features and revamps are in your pipeline.

In light of all this, I find the current situation incomprehensible. The community shard seen in this thread has offered you an easy win: change two achievement names and the Mono Ri matter can rest for a long time. With how little manpower and income you have, and how stagnant the website has become, you need to not pass up easy wins if you are to retain your dedicated, yet very small, playerbase. Losing a handful of vocal people may matter little on other sites, but it is significant for Subeta — further losses risk breaking the baseline it needs to remain social and functional. Please, for your own sake and that of your players, get someone with database access to make two quick changes and document them, then commit to revisiting this matter in the distant future.

^those are way nicer ways of saying what i want to say. this doesn't seem like a situation where the usual reasoning of "short staffed and over worked" applies... but it was used anyway...

this is being treated like another tedious and unimportant complaint/suggestion instead of the unacceptable hurt that it really is. it's honestly callous to continue to blow this off with that lame excuse of needing a full rework first. it gives the impression that a full rework is needed first just so this could continue to be ignored because it's not worth the time, apparently. i guess it's actually way more complicated than my pea brain can understand to change a title.

truly my "last straw" was a while ago due to a certain other event... i don't know why i'm still here, but i don't regret stopping giving subeta my money after that. and tbh i wouldn't blame someone if this was "enough is enough" for them. and so the vicious cycle continues.

while ive resolved myself to just being basically done w this thread because it directly effects and upsets me i just wanted to pop in and thank the people that have spoken up in support of us with DID and have quoted us and our solutions and wishes directly to amplify our voices. i am truly thankful for the support that has been outpoured to us on this thread despite staff choosing the route they have <3

Just popping in to say - those that have pushed for change on this thread will be getting the Helper achievement if they don't already have it in the next few days. It's very close to Shabbat for me, and I don't work Friday night to Saturday night if I can avoid it.
