Could there be an opt in to anonymously donate items like there is when sending gifts?
I think the usernames should be kept. It's always nice to see if someone has a birthday or not.
I prefer usernames, but like some have said, can we have them on the page that says we got the item? Or I think said something about a toggle of anonymity--I like that too.
I'm indifferent to seeing usernames _ (ツ)_/¯
I don't ever really send thank yous or birthday wishes from seeing items in the DC unless I happen to see a Giveaways thread but I could still post there without seeing the username in the DC itself
this seems like the perfect compromise to me.
though i'm also fine with no names. i personally don't like the idea of my name being attached to donations, so i basically never donate.
Thank you to whoever donated the . <3
I really like the DC this way. I appreciate all items, expensive or not, that are thrown in the DC because they all have a value (fragging/recycle/delete for Drills' quests as an example).
I also agree with that people do get angry that others will donate things and single them out for donating what they did.
I think it's just a new format that users have to get used to, as sometimes change is not easy, but can be a good thing overall. :)
The only thing I would change is listing the total number of items in the DC somewhere on the bottom, like you had before. It does help with planning my time on Subeta.
I liked being able to see who put the items in the DC. I find that half the fun.

I appreciate changes to reduce lag, but considering the lag ended after Survival ended, when there were still 40k+ hearts in the DC, I thought we'd determined that the lag was from the process of donating thousands of items all at once - not their existence in the DC. If this change addresses that, then great.
I have a slight but not strong preference for showing usernames. I liked having them, especially when people did giveaways so I knew what username to look for. But forcing users to evaluate the actual items on a DC page vs. check for a username doesn't seem like a bad shift. That said, it is nice to be able to thank users for their donations, which you can't do if it's fully anonymous.
I do think there are too many items displayed currently - or mostly what bothers me is the two extra items on the last row (which doesn't shift for me no matter how much I change my browser width, or zoom in/out).

I don't think the usernames are necessary.
With the 2000 limit, though, the original page might not lag? It seems like overkill to remove lag by both limit to 2000 (there were regularly 14,000 or so items in there without lagging the site before) and remove usernames, when probably either one alone would have fixed it.
So I would think without a lot of effort you could try putting back the original version but with the 2000 limit in place. If desired.
Or, remove that 2000 limit if you keep it anonymous.
But for me, it's fine as is now.
How does the limit work? Could you explain that in more detail? If there's already more than 2000 items in there, and someone adds more, is it random whether their new adds go into the 2000 or is it a queue? Or is it first added first out (a stack)? Or some other mechanism (newest on site, alphabetic, ..? )
Thanks for the update, sounds like a great plan.
I don't mind if the names are there or not. Reducing lag is a good thing.
RIP Mom, I love & miss you more than you know. Tell Dede hi.

I like the no user names, gonna get used to it. the amount showing is a little long tho, could we take out the bottom 2 rows?

I vote for showing usernames!
I think instead of an option to make yourself anonymous in the DC, there should be an option to make your name visible when donating items to the DC. Would that take less code to implement and still cut down the lag? It could be an option that is listed under "User Options" on our dashboards. Like the birthday cake or hiding when we are online.
I don't particularly mind either way about usernames. Seeing the username after you've picked up an item does seem like the best mid-point, though.
However, I find having 30 items appear on each page a little uncomfortable since it leaves two extra items hanging at the bottom. Perhaps 20 items per page? Anything as long as it's a multiple of four.

i play using a screen reader. that means that i have to sift thru all the text on a screen to get to the relevent bits, ie links or specific instructions. the donation corner has always been a challenge for me. i gave it a try today and it loads quicker. the limit of 2k items at a time really helps in this regard. however, some of the thrill of using the donation corner is finding thousands of items available. so if you're steadfast that only 2k items be front-loaded at a time then perhaps showing the number of items as 2kout of how ever many items there actually are at the time. i also like that the donator's name is removed from the items. itwas unnecessary and slowed down the perusal of available items. if people want to know who donated an item perhaps placing the donator's name on the confirmation page would work. all in all i like the changes. :D
