It really takes a few books for Jim Butcher to get a good a handle on Murphy. Fool Moon was annoying to me as Murphy was really written horribly and as she acts as a major obstruction for Harry during the book, it can't simply be pushed under the rug.
I loved the diversity of kinds of werewolves.
There's a Dresden Files book called Ghost Story and it does change the series up a bit XD
I need to catch up on King books. I didn't finish Pet Sematary because I read it during a semester in college and homework got to the point I had to stop reading.
I got the final Dark Tower book for my birthday one year :)
My favorite is Cujo. That is the one King book that made it hard to sleep after reading. I, like an idiot, finished the last 50 pages before I went to sleep.
Ahh scary books ;-; -hide- We get frequent nightmares and flashbacks, so not the best stuff for us. :x We actually had to be removed from class as a youngin' during scary stories.
-Abbi
Cujo was so good and so sad too. The one I couldn't sleep after was Misery. I only read it once ever and won't read it again. The movie was really good too. Kathy Bates was chilling! Oh and nope, not ever going to watch the movie again either. lol I never read the book, but the only movie I never finished was Secret Window. I saw that beautiful golden retriever and just couldn't bear someone doing horrible things to him, and I was sure they would. I hate that. I loved the book Delores Claiborne, and I thought Kathy Bates was awesome as Delores in the movie. Every scene she was in was wonderful, but I hated the rest. They changed it completely to be from the viewpoint of the daughter, when she was barely mentioned in the book. I just couldn't get over that.
Hey, are we talking about Stephen King in here?! I'm a crazy fan and The Dark Tower series became my absolute FAV!! There are many other books that tie into the Dark Tower universe, as well. Some I haven't read in many years.
My first audio book was the original (he passed on) by George G. and the followups were done by another great audio content maker. (Can't recall his name but I swear I just heard an ad on YT that had his voice... Frank s/thing? maybe)
Unfortunately, like every SK movie, ALL books were SO much more incredible than what they put into the movies. The only one I think they actually tried with was Dreamcatcher. I was actually impressed at how they worked to interpret what King said in the book into a visual piece. Delores Claiborne was a close second, but only b/c they were able to depict things easier... plus the actress that played her has always been a favorite of mine.
Now if anyone wants to get into some seriously underrated, not so known about and AWESOME fiction/horror, I would go with Necroscope. This is amazingly well written, uses non fictional theories on mathematics - or just a well established group of people that can talk to the dead - to make the theory possible of how the first book starts out. (Brian Lumley) Imagine talking to anyone you need to about history, math, science, etc to pass your classes... then things move on from there. It's a great character and story build up. I've read most of them ONCE, and it's just not enough. Plus there were like 1 or 2 that were added since I finished the series which is as long if not longer than the Dark Tower series.

Hi ! How are you?
I loved Carrie, Dreamcatcher and The Stand, books and movies. I saw the Dark Tower movie and I thought it was really good and couldn't understand why it was panned so bad. The only reason I never read the Dark Tower series was because his usual books were always about an inch thick and some were more. At the time they cost like $5.99 to $7.99 and that was a lot, but I felt it was worth it. Then this series came out and each book was the same height but less than a 1/2 inch thick and yet were the same cost each. I would have bought them anyway, but there were something like 15 of them. I couldn't afford that and I just felt like I was being cheated. It seemed like there were only a few chapters in each one and the publishers just wanted to create a situation where they could rake in the money. I can't find that incarnation on the internet now, only the eight books they came out with later that were the normal thickness. But I remember the displays in the stores very well.
Necroscope sounds cool, but also reminds me of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. lol
oh, i love me some stephen king. as i said earlier my first entry into his world was salem's lot. read everything up to the girl who loved tom gordon and then went on to other authors. the book of his that scared the bejesus out of me was IT. omg, the clown in the sewers with balloons. no thank you. it took me months to walk near sewer grates after that. now, the movie that was made from the book sucked although tim curry did a fantastic pennywise the clown. my fave stephen king movie was the green mile. it followed the book pretty well, well better than most of his movies did. lol plus tom hanks did an awesome job with the lead role. never finished the dark tower series because it got too confusing for me and i had other priorities. if i can find it on audio i'll give it a 2nd chance. dreamcatcher was a fun horror story and the movie was a great watch. the one thing from the book/movie that i will never forget are the sht weasels. omg, i laughed so hard i was crying over it.
tarna - who writes the necroscope series? i love good horror so would like to add it to my ever so long i'm never goign to get through it reading list.
viserion - i completely understand what you're talking about with murphy. she's portrayed as an unsympathetic brute when it makes absolutely no sense for her to act that way. as for the werewolves, i like the diversity also. i just found the categories they were split up into amusing. i do admit to having a jaded viewpoint thanks to everything i've read.
Oh, I forgot about The Green Mile. That was so good! Both book and movie. I loved IT. That was seriously creepy and I've hated clowns ever since. lol But I read the book several times. In fact, I was re-reading the hardback version when the paperback came out. I bought it at lunch and set both copies back on my desk. I got several comments of, "You REALLY must like that book!" lol Also noticed a few glances and then they hurried by without saying anything. :) Aww, you didn't think the first miniseries was good? I liked it a lot, and Tim Curry was awesome. I didn't like the second remake at all, though.
Misery was a good read. I haven't seen the movie. Brian did and when he screamed I knew exactly what scene he was on XD
I love animals and horror. So...not a good combo there XD
I haven't yet read Delores Claiborne. But I will agree that Kathy Bates is an awesome actress.
With The Dark Tower movie...it didn't really do a good job with introducing newcomers about the series. I can confirm that as I saw the movie with my husband who hasn't read the books. And for some reason they decided to make the movie a sequel to the books which, I'm assuming, won't make sense to anyone who hasn't finished the books. Finally...the Dark Tower movie had been in the works for decades so everyone was examining it harsher than they otherwise would have.
I've read Dreamcatcher twice but am wary about seeing the film. I'm afraid they'll ruin it.
While I haven't read the short story, the ending of The Mist as well as the creature designs in that film were great. King himself likes the ending to the movie over the one he wrote.
I found the adaptation of Doctor Sleep hampered by the fact it was a sequel more to the movie than the book version of The Shining.
I finally read IT a few years ago. IT Chapter 1 did a good job as an adaptation but IT Chapter 2...that's when it really showed that the story can only be told out of order to be any good. Great casting for the second movie, though.
Dreamcatcher and the beginning of the book with all the pooping O.O'

Mornin' KSrs
Will be offline until Friday mostly now. I find subeta so difficult on the phone, though I'll probably try. Movers coming this morning to pack up what we're taking. Then we need to clean what we can and try to get some rest. Thursday I finish packing up the car, we drop the cable and modem off at the cable company on our way out (they don't open until 10 so we get a late start) and then it's the 9 hour drive back to Ohio.

I can only do Subeta on a desktop... hahah
I need to get with the 21st century and get a laptop I suppose :/
Read that again.
Go Bills!

lol trow away
Let's hope morostide starts this week. -crosses fingers-
2 days off yay!
You pop the balloon and out falls:
1 Carnival Ticket
and 5,314 sP
Surprise! You also get this old trick or treat item:
Phoenix Rag Doll
Oh like it when this happens, don't have many of those rag dolls.
Hope everything goes well and the drive is uneventful. :)
Dreamcatcher the movie was excellent. You should try it. Oh The Mist - ewww. King might like the movie ending better, but I far more liked his version in the book. His wife was killed, but he, his son, and the girl escaped and lived. That was a good movie up until the end and then it was just so freaking depressing and upsetting. I hated it. Won't watch that again ever either.
Yeah, the ending of The Mist really divides people. I absolutely LOVE it and my husband loathes it. So never going to watch it together XD
Heck, I don't know if he ever watched it a second time XD
He doesn't read so he's never read the short story.
I get why you and others don't like it, though. Because it is super depressing.
Have you seen the tv series The Mist? It is a season long and ends on a cliffhanger about what the Mist is being used for. But without a second season we'll never know what the cliffhanger means. While I prefer the movie to the show, the show was entertaining and had some good twists and turns in it.
I can do some sites on mobile, but Subeta is not one.
- to be fair it was the ending of the IT mini-series that i didn't like. the first 3/4 of it was good. then they tried to interpret the books metaphysical component for the show and it failed.i've never seen the second IT movie so i have no opinion of it. your co-werkers were probably giving you those looks because they were remembering pennywise and hoping there were no sewer grates nearby. lol
- you should watch the dreamcatcher movie. it's very entertaining. i liked the mist story but never saw the movie or tv show. not sure i'll watch it either as i don't like depressing endings.
did either of you see haven or (i think it was called) chester's mill? i liked haven a lot but was so let down by chester's mill. it went in the "good idea gone horribly wrong" pile with the tommyknockers. another good book made into a questionable movie is needful things. it started off good but ended kind of weakly. throws caramel apples and candy corn at
- be safe on your trip home. :)
Thank you all. ❤
Discovered I couldn't do forums on the phone so had to get the laptop out of the bag and hop on again.
Movers left after nearly 5 hours. Miss one item, but that was my fault for not checking the inventory close enough. I should be able to put it in the car. Importantly they forgot the screws that hold the mirror on my nana's old dresser that is going in the guest room. Glad we didn't miss them because whoever has to put it all together at delivery will need them. ANd they were getting a bit lazier/hurried toward the end so hopefully, since they had to unload it all at the warehouse, it will all be okay.
Catch y'all from home tomorrow night or Friday.

OMG the movers unloaded everything at a warehouse without supervision? I hope all your stuff will not only be there but unbroken too. I've seen how some do things, and they just throw stuff with no rhyme or reason, not caring about if something is fragile or not, or what will not be damaged by everything piled on top. But you said inventory so I'm sure you had insurance too.
I never did see the series The Mist. I might give it a try, tho. I hate that when they can't wrap everything up. But they don't know it will be cancelled until it actually is I suppose.
Where did you get your user name? lol I loved the series Haven, never read the book. Never saw Chester's Mill or read that book either. I thought The Tommyknockers and Needful Things were both okay, books and movies, but definitely not close to being in my favorites category, tho they had some interesting elements.
Have either of you read The Talisman? Or his Non-Fiction Danse Macabre? That was really interesting. It was his reflection and opinions on the horror genre. He really ripped up John Saul and several other authors in that too. Whew! I liked some of Saul's books, although I can't think of any now.
Google says: Danse Macabre is a 1981 non-fiction book by Stephen King, about horror fiction in print, TV, radio, film and comics, and the influence of contemporary societal fears and anxieties on the genre.
never heard of that movie dreamcatcher.
i saw that movie, the mist. Weird and a sad/weird ending. Not going to watch it again.
Not sure of the series is here on tv/netflix, etc.
lol seems i keep getting hit by sweets. Never heard of Chester's Mill (book or movie).
i sometimes come on my phone here. All works but so small and my big fingers just won't let it all work ok... lol
Oh moving and movers, no fun and hectic. Good luck unpacking!
- my username here is old. 17 years ago yahoo had chatrooms, google was newborn, and neopets was just getting going. i needed a username that was different from my email and couldn't come up with anything. so i perused (i think it was) geocities sites looking for inspiration.i came on this site that made custom rubber duckies for parties, birthdays, what ever . they had all kinds of rubber ducks - ones dressed up as nurses, doctors, policemen, firemen, ballerinas....and then in the corner i saw it. it was a red rubber duck with black devil horns. i about lost it laughing and evilredduckie was born.
i never read kin'g's book danse macabre. not sure why now as it seems right up my alley with horror writing. i could have used that as a reference in uni. ugh. i'm going to see if it's on audibles.
- if you can find dreamcatcher over there it would be worth the read. it is a good book with a nice helping of humor in it to go with the horror.
- maybe read the mist outloud when brian is around so he has to listen to it while he's doing other stuff? i've moved on to summer knight and find murphy much better, more likeable than before. i love that he's combining fairy with horror, blending myth, legend, and fairytale. i've always thought of the worlds as intersecting and he does it quite well.
