Over here the cheapest optician seems to have the lenses at about £60 more than regular ones (not counting having thinner lenses, which I always pick), but it does seem to vary depending on which optician I go to ;)

The last time I tried measuring a pair of my PJ bottoms to know how much to take the new ones up by, I ended up cutting too much off the bottom and had to sew it back on again 😊 so I don't think I'd have the confidence to do that with his! I usually ask Mum to cut the bottom section off (she cuts a really neat straight line), but I'm always wary of measuring it wrong and ending up with them being too short :P

oooo now that makes it a more interesting knit! Is that knitted in the round like the mobius strip infinity scarf I knitted years ago?

(and as a side note, if you wanted a 425 square feet one bedroom flat here, it'd cost you 220k gbp (about 310k usd) - prices are just crazy, especially at the moment!)

That looks really fancy! It's one of those twisted bands where you can't quite see how it twists, so it looks even more complicated to make :D

At least there are a few other opticians in town that I can try as well. I was not able to find any prices online. I Might wait to see what happens after my next appointment with an eye doctor though. :)

that doesn't help when they don't put their prices online - I tried emailing some of the opticians in town before I got these glasses, but they weren't overly informative (and some weren't overly helpful even when I went in and asked their reception staff) o.O

Admittedly the other side of town is a bit cheaper, but even if I was working, I wouldn't be earning enough to afford a place of my own! Sometimes there's what they call 'affordable housing' which is usually where you pay 40% of the normal price, then pay monthly rent on the 60% that you don't own yourself. It doesn't help that a lot of the new houses & flats that are being built, are all priced even higher (I think they're trying to cash in on the location), so realistically you'd either have to be earning a fortune, or be selling a flat in London to be able to afford it!

It is a shame when you work and still are not able to afford housing! I would expect those kinda prices in London, but not other places in England. But of course, I wouldn'nt know too much about that. lol I know from experience that it is even more expensive in Oslo. I would end up with something super tiny if I were to buy there!

The thing with London and some other big cities, is that generally the wages are higher to compensate for the higher cost of living. But my town has a high price on housing, yet doesn't have the higher wages to compensate :K There's some smaller towns about 10 miles away from here that are considerably cheaper, but then you have to add in how much it'd cost (and the time involved) to travel here for work / shopping.

A lot of the people I went to school with have moved to Wales, as some areas are much more realistically priced when it comes to housing!

Generally the wages are the same no matter where you live here, which is not very helpful when you live in one of the more expensive cities like I do! I didn't know it was like that in London etc, makes a lot of sense. Shame it is not the same where you live though, with such high costs! I actually have a nf from Wales that has visited me once, since she loves our country and have other friends here. :)
