I read all the news I've missed backwards, which probably wasn't the most sensible method.

I was very sorry to read about the loss of Rocky. I can imagine you would've been attached to him over the years and then so excited that he'd finally found a home. Thankfully the people who took him, loved him, so at least the final year of his life was a happy one for him. I was wondering how long you monitor the dogs once they leave the shelter? I was just wondering how you were informed of Rocky's death.

Unlike some of you, l am slightly more positive that a vaccine will be developed. Australia has a licensing agreement with an Oxford University-Swedish company that is currently developing and testing a vaccine. At the same time, there are 166 other clinical trials underway around the world. I'm hopeful that with all that scientific brain power, someone will come up with the right vaccine for the different strains. We have flu vaccines annually for different strains of viruses , we just need the right method for this particular virus.

I'm not sure if I missed a post when I was reading, but I am hoping you arrived in Denver safe and sound. Please let us know how you got on.

It's very cold here in Sydney (not Nth America cold, you'd probably laugh to read that it's currently 54 degrees F) and my heater isn't working! Repair person coming tomorrow! :)

I'm looking forward to the quests event on Monday. I rarely do the quests so it will give me some motivation.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekends! xxxxxxx

I haven't quested since I started playing Animal Crossing in June, so I'm looking forward to the event. Like Jinjah, it will give me some motivation to do a few. Anyone else excited?

Welcome !

54° is just about perfect temp as far as I'm concerned! I love cooler weather. It's been regularly over 90°F/32.2°C the past month and I'm ready for a break!

thank you! He was a special boy- basically a big, misunderstood baby. <3 In terms of Rocky, we have kept in contact with the adopters via text messages since he was adopted. I actually live in NJ, but the adopters were from Rhode Island. The adopters came to visit him at or our shelter several times and then another volunteer and I drove him up to RI. We spent the day with the family and got him acclimated, as well as made sure it was the right fit and that we set him up for success. The first month, the adopters texted us weekly with pictures and updates. Since then, they have texted monthly. We actually had just gotten a text message the day before with a good update. The next day, the adopter called the other volunteer who made the trip with me and said she was bringing him in to the vet because he was acting off and she suspected bloat, which is a very deadly thing with dogs (not sure if you're familiar with it, but the stomach fills with gas and twists, which can cut off circulation to it and other organs). Unfortunately, it was too late and so damage had been done that they made the decision to put him to sleep because his prognosis was poor even with surgery. :( Sorry, that was longer than I expected - but basically a lot of the dogs I work with personally are some of our harder to adopt dogs, so they have a more in depth process before being adopted, and I end up staying in close contact with the adopters in case they need tips, have questions, etc.

I am hopeful about a vaccine. I also was just thinking yesterday about how I should get my flu vaccine soon.

I can't wait for the quest a thon. I quest every day anyway so might as well get some rewards for it lol.

It must be easy to get attached to them, and then to worry about them when they move on!

definitely! Rocky was at the shelter on and off for 6 years. :( he came to us from a kill shelter in Tennessee in 2013. He was adopted and returned several times. He also went into a couple of foster homes and was returned from them. He was a big dog and had some fear issues, as well as health issues, so it was really heartbreaking to see him shuffled around over the years and for nothing to work out. The people who gave him his forever home really were angels. They knew he was not going to be an easy dog but wanted him anyway and worked through any issues they had. I'm glad he had a home with them for the end of his life. <3

Is everyone ready for the Quest-a-thon coming up on monday? I actually like doing that. It gives us something to do. Plus the rewards for this year sounds interesting.

Welcome

Welcome to Coffee With Friends Yonder!

I'm looking forward to the Quest-a-thon too.

, Happy Anniversary to you and Larry Pam! 😘

I'm hopeful for a vaccine too!!! We've had some hot days, but nothing like you are suffering. I'm sorry. I have missed my walks because I can't take the sun but today was overcast so I could take a walk to my daughter's and get some exercise with a bonus of a steak and lobster dinner.

Yes, I'm looking forward to the quest-a-thon! I usually do my quests everyday anyway, for the most part, so it will be nice to get a reward for it lol. I hope they might also do like they have in the past and have quests give out retired or holiday items. That would be extra nice.

, I bet that lobster and steak dinner was delicious!!

, I don't really think I've heard of bloat. How do dogs contract it and is it linked to particular breeds? What are the early symptoms? So tragic and it sounds so painful.

Day 1 of the quests done. Hope everybody remembered! I had to make a forum group to stash the cash so I could do the Sarah quests. Luckily somebody let me know that or I wouldn't have stood a chance of getting in the top 100.

Hope everyone has a great day!

it is more common in large, deep chested dogs and the risk goes up with age. It can be caused by a variety of things- a dog eating or drinking too much or too quickly, exercise right after eating, genetics, stress. Some of the signs are pacing, trying to vomit but nothing coming up, drooling, hard stomach. I had honestly never heard of it myself until I started volunteering.

I will definitely be doing my quests for the quest-a-thon. I just haven't decided about attempting Sarah. I get nervous that the page will glitch or have an error and then eat my sP. Lol I've had too many items and sP go missing with glitches over the years.

Have a good day!

Happy Subeta Anniversary to ! 🎉

I'm glad there's a Quest-a-Thon :) I like these events where the community bands together towards a common goal. I do hope the lag cools off, though. It's a Monday morning and it's pretty intense right now.

Don't forget to always do Shinwa's quests first, in case she asks for someone whose quests you did already! Sometimes her rewards are junk, but they can also often be valuable stat boosters, so it's worth the effort.

- I've mentioned it before, but the kitty you're wearing looks so much like my last one :)

I finally got my pictures off my ancient phone a few months ago, and have one of him sitting in a box and one with better lighting of him playing with a string that shows off the similarities.

Phones, or as I refer to them, cameras for taking cat pictures that people occasionally call me on ;)

aw what a sweet, soft cuddly looking kitty. I'm sorry you still don't have him. I think I remember giving you this kitty but I haven't seen you wearing him, probably because it just makes you feel sad. (hugs)

- While I don't think I've worn it yet, I really treasure owning it in my wardrobe :) It's very important to me!

Despite his biting ways, Nipper was one of the sweetest and affectionate cats I've had. And his name isn't entirely fair - sometimes he scratched ;) But for five to ten minutes, he was all pets and snuggles.

that's nice. Nipper just had to make sure you knew who was the boss once in a while. Cats rule the roost!!! Mine always did anyway. 😄 Ours, my daughter named Orange Oliver from the book about the short sighted cat who had to wear glasses. 😄
