My favourite underrated animal is the naked mole rat. Nightmare-fuel at first sight, they are actually quite adorable in their creepy way. Plus, they have a social system similar to that of bees and can life for over 30 years

(And oh my gosh, that quokka posted! <3 I got to stare at it while typing this and I could not stop smiling)

I saw those Devil's spawns at the zoo last month... I'm usually not one to make a bad comment on someone's look but YUCK! A very interesting animal nonetheless.

My animal choice is the pangolin, the most trafficked mammal because of the belief that their scales and meat have magic healing qualities. How can anyone harm these beautiful creatures.

Most underrated animal... It's gotta be the wallaby. I've been in love with them since Rocko's Modern Life, but you never really hear about hem, or see anything about them. They are just such cute, fluffy, weird little critters!

My favorite underrated animal is rodents in general but if I have to narrow it down further I'd have to go with prairie dogs. While in much of their territory they can be indiscriminately shot as vermin they are amazing animals that increase the health and biodiversity of the prairies they live in. On top of that they have full fledged language. For a long time scientists have believed humans were the only animals that have language (according to them all other animals just have calls/signs) well it turns out the humble prairie dog also has the holy grail of higher learned cognition language. Researchers recorded prairie dog 'calls' and analyzed them and found that they're densely packed with lots of information that human ears can't hear. Young prairie dogs aren't born with prairie dog language they have to learn it over time. If you play wild prairie dog calls to zoo born prairie dogs they don't know what's being said (i.e. if the wild prairie dog call is saying there's a snake coming from the west all the prairie dogs should run to the east but the zoo prairie dogs will just dive into the nearest prairie dog hole demonstrating they don't know what the warning means because the snake could slither down that hole and eat them). Also they're just really adorable.

I was also going to say the red panda, but sloths are pretty cool too! Very relatable, at least :')

My favorite animal that's underrated is probably the Jerboa. They are so cute!

Boelen's pythons are a rare species from New Guinea and they are sooo gorgeous. They're black and rainbow-iridescent.

I love maned wolves! They look like a deer and a wolf crossbreed and also just slightly weird enough to make people uncomfortable. They're so cute tho!

Hmmm I have no idea if it's underrated or not... but giraffes are 100% my favorite. Yellows and orangey browns are amazing together... those horns and droopy ears... and just... they're ridiculous looking with crazy nice colors and a cool pattern. What's not to love?
