I don't mean to be salty but sometimes the lack of communication with some things does bother me. As an Autistic person, I'm very used to routines and certain things happening at certain times, and I get worried when those things don't happen and there's no news on if they're being skipped or just delayed, especially if I'm not aware that it doesn't happen every event. I'm thinking of suggesting that each event should have an FAQ with questions like "Is X coming back this year?" answered so we don't have to worry about bothering the staff with those questions since I feel like it would be annoying if we just kept asking them until they gave us an answer.
Honestly as often as I butt heads with staff, especially Amber, I feel this as well. She and Bug are the most visible staff members, even more than Keith at this point, and while I understand a lot of the difficulties we face are not her fault and she has no control of them that doesn't make it any less annoying. With previous responses from Keith I understand Subeta is operating on a very tight budget, but at the same time there's really no reason he can't bring in people willing to volunteer to help because at this point it's a cycle of there not being enough staff to go around and fix all the issues which leads to user dissatisfaction which leads to less people willing to spend money on the site, which leads to fewer paid staff because there isn't enough to pay them, rinse repeat.
Yeah, I feel sorry for Amber - she&;s the most visible "face" of Subeta so she gets all of the blowback, for things that she cannot control and are not her fault. It honestly seems like Amber and Bug are the only people who work here!

I think users would be more than happy to volunteer to help out, whether it be moderating forums or helping out on tickets. I'm not saying full-blown admin, but people who are willing to help out around the site - perhaps answering queries for new starters which will make them feel more welcome! Especially if they see a host of users helping out around the site they will want to get involved?
Obviously you would need to sign up and apply, not just a basis of everyone can do this. Think it would be pretty cool, though!

Adding on to the lack of communication regarding the anniversary (which as such a big milestone I'd have hoped they'd go all-in for community engagement, but alas), and the lack of communication about things like the battling or wizard, the fact that actual changes to the official rules of the site, a change to rules that effect everyone, were put in a forum post and not the NEWS far more than irritates me, I was steaming when people including myself asking them why such an important thing wasn't in the news (which is 90% of the time just the daily pet winner, maybe an item revamp or ts restock, it's not like it's spammed with posts or anything) were flat out ignored. Not even a reasoning like "x staff member can't post to the news" (which was a problem on another petsite I am a member and much more active on, and was eventually remedied in order to make important information actually easily accessible to the users).
Bug patches and minor things? Sure, fine, I'd like them to be all collected in the news (maybe a monthly masterpost of even just links to the posts in question/quick summary of what's up), but RULES CHANGES? Putting that exclusively on a forum post is insane to me.

I wouldn't be at ease with volunteers working the ticket system - people are paid for that. Don't sell your time short because you"love" the site.
From other responses elsewhere I feel exactly the same. There's a lot of people willing to help out if staff will just let them, and I don't know why they aren't.
One of my other favorite websites has a Trello set up of all the things that need to get done; new features to implement, bug fixes, ect and has that open to the public to see what is being worked on. Certain aspects of the site are also open source so that anyone with code knowledge can go in and help, and submit it to the admin for implementation as long as the code checks out which is how a single person is running such a successful site. If anything Subeta could learn a lot from that kind of work, because while yes there is payment and other personal information stored away in the site's code there are also plenty of places that need work that aren't related at all that could go open source to allow people to help.
I was also seething about this, honestly. I'd even argue that Amber and Bug's big monthly update posts should be made actual news posts instead of stashed away in the forums, but that's another story. Any official changes to site rules and other such important information need to be news announcements asap, not figured out by users months later and asked about down in the forums to get any kind of official answer. And yes, they never did provide us with a proper explanation as to why it was never announced or justified and clearly user outrage over this wasn't taken seriously because very little has changed in that regard and we are still left out of the loop on important things.
I know nothing of coding and hate the forums, but give me a boring, repetitive task and I can do it happily for hours. Remember that "minion sorting" thing? Or it was some sort of sorting thing that the users got to help with? Anyone remember that? It was my idea of HEAVEN. Check out my Galleries. So very, very sorted. If Subeta has any tasks like that, I'd gladly do it for free. Or grammar-checking, I used to do that for people writing papers in college.
Subeta, I volunteer as tribute! Use me!
The reason I don't play as much as I did when I was younger and the reason I'm not begging all my friends to play Subeta with me is because to be frank, Subeta isn't the friendliest place. You can say "hey whats up?" in the shout box and people will just ignore you and continue their conversations. I have played in many virtual words, and this one has to be the most ostracizing. If the "popular" people decide they don't like you within their first impression of you, they treat you like you don't exist. Staff has done nothing of this because these people pay the site, but unfortunately these people will be the death. Don't get me wrong, I've met plenty of exceptions to this, but unfortunately, they're still exceptions.

Having a mobile version of the site would help a buttload with user retention and bringing in more people.
Rather late to this thread, and I've just been skimming because some of it is above me or not interesting... I have been here for 12 years, I am now 34, and I'm still going. Subeta has remained a daily activity for me since I started. I do the same things daily, all the quests, certain games (and yes, better payouts would be great!), the norms. I enjoy it, it is mindless repetition for me that gets me through the day. I am a laptop/pc user, I only access Subeta on my phone or tablet when I am away from home/work on vacation and do not have my laptop/pc with me. I start my day playing Subeta, I spend my lunch playing, and I finish the day on it too. It's comfort, I suppose. I look forward to the events still, and I don't know what I would do without Subeta, to be honest.
I think I've had a GA for at least five years, but I have maintained buying them with sP and now with CSC earned via Morty Cards. I can't justify paying for a GA with real money, I'll be honest, but if there was an overall option to donate monthly just for the state of the site, for some reason that I can justify. It might not happen monthly depending on what's going on, but it's still something I'd be willing to do. I've probably said that before at some point. It isn't on par with ACLU or PP, but I still think it would be worth while.
I avoid CWs these days, they annoy me, to be honest. I just want to focus on the regular site stuff.
I don't really have many suggestions, I'm good with things, I had forgotten about the Teahouse, and just about everything else listed I was unaware of or had forgotten. I'm just here going on about my wee business, enjoying myself. I have noticed exceedingly low numbers, lower than I remember, but I imagine things will get busier with Trick or Treating, etc.
I sincerely hope things aren't leading to dire straits any time soon. I rarely visit the forums unless something seems amiss and I need to see if it's on my end or Subeta's, but I stumbled across this while seeing if anyone else was getting impatient for candy and decided to throw some pennies in.
( I'm sure you're lovely, but I cannot bloody stand Sheev.)
I know this doesn't necessarily relate to gathering new/maintaining existing users but since the topic of GAs snd subscriptions and whatnot has came up on this board I figured this is as good of a place as any to drop this!
I'll start by saying I have no idea how feasible this is, considering data storage space and programming and whatnot, but if it's doable then maybe it'd be something to consider.
What about the ability to upload, store, link, & display images on subeta? Could be part of a GA, or equally could be stand alone for $x a month? Public, private, comments, albums, etc? And if the GA lapsed the images wouldn't be deleted but would either be on par with the way pet slots used to work (pet remains as is but if it's adopted out the slot goes away) so things stay but nothing new can be uploaded; alternatively they could be turned to private, not deleted and could be downloaded by the uploader but not utilized or seen by others. Depending entirely on the amount of space this would take.
I suggest this based entirely on the fact that: both photobucket and tinypic have perished (well PB might as well have) and that you can upload images on toyhouse for individual characters and utilize those images anywhere.
I like the idea of Subeta letting users host some images! Forumsets, signatures, character art, etc. That could be really neat. I use IMGur and with the way a lot of image hosting sites are going, I'm halfway expecting that site to croak in the coming years too.
Buuuuuuut... Subeta has also tried that with Billboards & user-made ads. That feature is still outdated to shit and you can't even delete the images you've uploaded.
So maybe the site could start with actually updating the billboards feature, or even integrating it into image hosting, depending on how much Subeta can handle in terms of storage.
Mobile please, yes, please, loving those suggestions the most. On my PC I'm normally choosing between playing video games or playing on here and video games win most of the time. I love it here, I love playing here and I would absolutely spend so much more time on this site if the mobile was easier to navigate and worked better. If mobile was a good option, I would be able to mess around on here during load screens, when taking a little break from my game, when I'm lying in bed trying to fall asleep (it would be so much better than skimming fb before bed) and even on my lunch at work (which is again, currently occupied by fb) I would definitely invest a lot more time here if using this site on mobile was improved.
I'm also really liking a lot of the suggestions about bringing more features to GAs.
If Images had to be approved as billboards do...how long would that take? I'm on maybe day 2 of waiting for mine to be accepted for Moro.
Do people still even use billboards (besides me, for holidays :'D ) I feel like when I'm on mobile, I never see any user billboards anymore.
I mean, the site DID have a mobile version for a good while and it was... not that functional, to say the least. plus add on trying to fix bugs on not just one but TWO different versions of the site with an already shoestring staff and budget I'm glad they finally axed it.
Edit: 10/22/19 honestly, I'm just going to copy this over from the thread I posted it in, because it very much relates to staff and what imo needs to be more transparent in changes.

Hi, uh... new user here! This is a funny first post to make, but I've sort of been thinking about this today as I've been lurking. That is, I've been considering what it would take to become a local. This site seems really awesome. I'm an illustrator, and I'm particularly interested in having some fun with that. However, I'm worried I'm going to drift away before I get anywhere close to that. I tried to read about the custom item creation thing, but the FAQ answered exactly none of my questions, and all the threads I went through after that only stressed me out worse. Past the tutorial, this site looks like it takes work. And as gorgeous as the art and the world is, I don't know if I have the energy to figure out what's going on.
Anyways, none of this is meant as disrespect. I was just reading through the thread, thought it was interesting, and wanted to pitch in. Particularly since a few of you have mentioned how a game with adult players can't ask players to invest time in the same way as a game with younger players.
Hopefully I can ride out the growing pains. I'd love to have a home forum to doodle in. It's been a long time.
Edit: Oh, and to speak to the volunteer thing. Depending on how their business is formed, they probably aren't legally be able to use volunteers. In the US, a for-profit business can't use volunteers to do the work of an employee. They probably would have had to form the site with the explicit purpose of being open-sourced and collaborative, and do some fancy legal stuff to make that work.
hey! welcome to subeta hehe i totally get what you mean. the subeta cw thing is super hard and convoluted to get into, even just getting your feet on the ground. when i first started releasing cws (im not an artist myself), i had to get help from a veteran to take me through it. if you ever ever need anyone to help out, feel free to smail me and we could chat over discord! i have some friends who do cws and we can get some answers for you!! (: some discord servers are great places to meet new friends
Welcome! I'll be honest, I've been a user on here for years before custom items were introduced, and I still have so little idea how they work because I kept running into the same issues of having really basic questions while any guides or official FAQs were off on some other planet's worth of explanations. like I was a kid asking what 2+2 was and the guides were all trying to teach me calculus. And since it cost so much money I couldn't afford to spend, I never bothered and now regret not asking sooner. ...that's... probably a one of the worst ways to try and welcome you to the site, rereading that. I'm sure if you ask around (unlike me, rip) plenty of people will be more than happy to help you figure things out! It can become a very lucrative business for artists, and I'm sure you'll be able to learn it!

oh what a big mood :' ] i released one (1) cw and tbh the whole process is not......... great like i def appreciate the fact it's been made simpler than it used to!! and absolutely see all the work staff put into it!!
but the thing remains right, if i want to draw something and put it on site i can't just do that™. with the way slots work i have to either
a) pay for 5 slots and end up with 5 items b) bother my friends asking if they want a slot c) go through the trouble of setting up a shop
and for the record i'm just lazy lmao but i can def see how the process would be hella intimidating to someone who is shy or just doesn't really want to interact with people ;;
sorry for the rant it's just something that's been on my mind lately asdfghjkl
doubling up on the CW sadness cuz I also like Sharing my product but if it isnt limited its seen as worthless and i dont wanna be one of Those Guys who releases a super popular cw and watch folk pay x5 slot price yknow? I jus wanna be kind and share yall :'(
