I rather have the page where you equip the pet with weapons and scrolls or make sets with them. And then choose them before battle.
I dislike the current choose your weapon - when I already have the set selected and it lags because it calls up everything else in order to 'edit' when I don't want to.

That invisible man, so helpful~ ;)
Damn, I was really liking the more compact battle page, it works so great, for me. :( I like how efficient and effective it is. Feel like I'm in the minority though. Never had an issue with images shrinking, because I edited my site... page... area to always be a certain size (ages ago), so it doesn't scale with the size of my browser window. And I don't bother with potions or equip every scroll that I own for every battle either, so I don't need to see them. The other weapons being not full opacity was also so great and made it more obvious what was in use. D: (not that the weapons being in boxes do not. ha.) It's like, I know what I have. I know what I use, I don't need to see them full 100% to know that I have them as an option. Lamentations. :(
That being said, I'm sure that other people will much prefer having all of their images all over everything again. haha.
This looks good; a lot closer to what people were used to before, but new and nice and mildly updated~ (not a spicy update like right now. hahaha.)
And, on this one
Is the damage done per turn going to be moved to the top of the information given ? People seemed to want that before.
Me? Eh, I can see that on the HP bar, it has numbers.
As for header being a button? Ha, man, look at my garbage. That's where I make the button go now!
But, I left and liked the, er, Done/Finished/whateverItSays button not being in the same spot, because it makes me take a second to double check if I need to heal or not before going ahead. It forces me to check. If it's the same spot, I'd just go and then be like, "wait. do i need to heal?" ha. Lazy.
[edit]Lastly, as an idea, after you fail at a battle, could the Healer link be changed to the one that is your battle pet specific? Like: https://subeta.net/explore/healer.php?act=heal&petid=#### instead of just to the healer page? It'd be faster to heal because that's what you are going to do when you lose.
& for fun, a user story. As a battler, I want quick and easy weapon selections so that I can be done battling for the day. hahaha.
I really like the mock ups of the new Battle Arena and it certainly looks promising! I am very encouraged by how drastically you are willing to go and work with everyone to make something that hopefully pleases the majority. Kudos to you and those who are helping you!
As an aside, I think a "Pre-selected weapons" think might be nice as like a general toggle, like in your user preferences or something. Having to do it on a per battle basis just seems like a waste since I would probably always forget to hit it. If it was a always on till I turned it off deal it would be more helpful I think. And if I don't want it at all I can just turn it off and never have to think about it again. Win win for all.

I'm sorry, but while it's fun to read sometimes, I really don't like the idea of being required to see that/click past the commentary. :( I know you said we can edit with custom css but even if the current layout takes some getting used to, not scrolling by default was a welcome change. I was able to battle faster than ever on my work's super slow wi-fi (don't judge; it was a slow week).
I don't really see there being a way for battling to not be grind-y a large portion of the time for most of your current battlers. Many of us have strong pets and frankly, there will never be a need to strategize against most of the opponents with them. And that's fine. We've spent years doing tough battles and pushing ourselves to do battle quests. Collecting more copies of loot to sell or gift has become the reward and I don't see how slowing that process down with unnecessary clicking or scrolling will make it more fun for older or newer battlers.
I really appreciate the work that's being put into this, but if given the option, I'd happily stick with the current layout. x:
Liking the potential I see with the new layout!
Part of me likes using the same space for commentary and weapon selection, but another part of me haaaates clicking "continue" buttons. Also, there was a point about sometimes needing to see the commentary while you strategize. I would agree. While this wouldn't solve the extra clicks, is there any way that the commentary and selection could just be different tabs in the battle space? That way you can switch batch and forth as needed?
All in all though, it's a step in the right direction and I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out!
I've really enjoyed the last few days of fast battling. I respect the continued efforts to make everyone happy, but I really wish I could just go click a button right now to opt in to the new format forever!
This sounds really good and I am very much looking forward to trying it.
I can see that careful thought was put into addressing all my major concerns as well as those presented by others, for which I am truly grateful to both and .
Excellent to replace check boxes and radio buttons with highlighting to show selection. This will both update the look and feel of the page and help those who had trouble selecting the tiny boxes/buttons. Given that highlighting will now be the normal way to show selection (of weapons, scrolls and potions) there is no need to show the selected weapons a second time just because there can be two of them. (It's okay to do this, but not needed if it turns out the space is better used for something else.)
Also yes to options - anywhere they are possible without creating a coding or maintenance issue, allowing users to make the final choice to match the way they work and think is always a good thing, in my opinion. Preselection as an option seems like a wonderful idea.
One small suggestion, since scrolls are used much more often than potions, I would put them on top and potions below them on your choose the things page.
I need to see the new layout to know for sure but I am concerned that even though it will be possible to show both elements using CSS, the choose the things layout will force the battle commentary off the screen. If whatever text I need to read is large enough so that I can use my browser zoom to see both at once (like I did with the old interface) and still read the text comfortably (of course assuming a laptop and a big screen) then this is everything I need. Otherwise, I would have to agree with who said
I have done a lot of thinking about this since the new layout appeared and finally realized that, for me, scrolling is disruptive when trying to choose resources for the next turn. Before I could see anything I needed with the flick of an eye and that is quick enough not to interrupt my thought process, but needing to change the screen via scrolling (or popups or drop downs or ... ) just mentally interrupts what I'm doing. Given the negative reaction to scrolling, I think this might be true for others as well. I do realize that, given the ability to equip an unlimited number of scrolls and potions, scrolling (or collapsing) for those sections is pretty much unavoidable at some point, regardless of screen size.
- glad I could help. :-)
- yes! And the scrolling of battle text was also removed. These two changes were a definite help for me and I think the other changes is planning will be even more wonderful.
First, thank you so much for taking our feedback very seriously and for being willing to deviate from the current UI for the new and full-width battle layout. I know we all tend to design things from our perspective, in a way that tends to feel intuitive to us, so making this move means you're putting yourself in our shoes and that means a lot to me personally.
As for the planned layout you presented in your previous post, there are features that I love, those that I can live with, and those that I want to counter a little bit.
Again, thank you for the hard work and the upcoming changes.
I think the weapon info would be more helpful on the "choose your pet/weapon set/scroll set" page than it would be during the battle itself.
If you're trying to switch up a set for one particular challenger (without necessarily doing it via changing your default set each time), that's when you have to cross-reference against SL or your Armory page if you're not able to make those changes on the fly with what's currently available (the weapons being in alphabetical order and having the images showing).
I'm not sure how I feel about the previous turn's info being separated from choosing your weapons for the next turn. Willing to give it a shot, especially since it can be adjusted with CSS if needed, I suppose. What I think I might prefer more (not that I know how this would be laid out) would be having the previous turn info showing and then your pre-selected weapons/scroll defaulted - then you would have two buttons to choose from (make next turn or choose weapons). That way you could grind through quickly if you want while also not having to scroll too much/make extra clicks OR you could take the time to carefully strategize/consider what move to make next.

these all look like very interesting developments, i'll be eager to try them out! thanks for the updates :)
one other suggestion that occurred to me, if people are worried about the extra commentary screen making it feel more time consuming, would it be possible to just toggle commentary on/off before the battle as well, like the pre-selection? so if you knew you would need the details you could opt-in, and of course vice versa if you know you don't need it.

3. When you hover/select an item, there will be somewhere on the screen that gives you the details of that item: what icons and how many of each icon it does, if it has a chance to bless/freeze/curse, if it&;s once per battle, etc.
I'm not sure how a hover would be intrusive? It would (I assume) just act like normal hovers around the site.
I personally was very happy when I heard this announcement since I'm constantly forgetting what my weapons do. I am a horrible battler I know. Nothing worse than using two full same element blockers at once :P I've been silently hoping for hovers to work for a very long time!
As an aside I'm not sure if it is possible but it would be fantastic if scaling weapons could show what they would currently do in battle with the current battle pet if hovers are implemented in the Arena. The Trident for instance is quite a bit different at tier 12 than at tier 1. I have no idea if that is even feasible, but it would be a nice touch.

Now that I've used the new format for some BQs, I've decided I like it. I moved my weapons around in the armory to accommodate it and now I can bang out wins for the first 25 quests with a few clicks. Fewer clicks=good.
I'm not sure I want to see a strategy dialog box and I know I don't want to have to click "continue" every time. Also, I'm not a fan of toggling or clicking a pre-selecting button for weapons each time. I want one weapons set for default that's always pre-selected. I have a second set with just three weapons in it that I use for Impossible challengers so that I can customize it each time.
I know some users have custom CSS to help out with some of this stuff, but I'm a goob and don't know how to do that.
Interesting changes, can't wait to try it out! I like that you made the preselect weapons optional as well
I'm sorry I'm going to be a horrible commentator and not read pages 5-12 to see if this has been said before, but my main annoyance with the new layout is a flaw in the old design: I can't arrange weapons by dragging in the Customize box of the Select weapons page on touchscreen.
That said, I actually like the new layout and especially the preselected weapons part a lot, though I might change my mind about them in non-BQ context. But so far, I love how quickly I can get through the tedious portion of BQs (up to lvl 25).
I really like the battling in the form it is in right now, it is fast and efficient and I can move through the lower level opponenets collecting my XP Points easily, with less boring time clicking and clicking knowing I will win Im just here to get the XP ... Once I get to a level that my pet is a bit more challenged I sit up and take notice. Yes I could skip to level 15 but I would miss out on the xp so I grind through the lower levels every day ... for the past two years Ideally I would like to have a dual system which it seems would appeal to most people, you can choose a fast battle or a more involved one, Click for fast battle and you are using the system as it stands click for full on battle and you get a version that allows more input and visuals
I feel that would suit most people and make it far more enjoyable and it would also allow people to feel they have achieved even more as they realise they can cruise though on fast battle more and more showing how well they are progressing and rewarding them for returning and improving.
It would feel like the fast section was a reward in xp for all the work you put in to that point so I hope you will consider doing this, I would absolutely hate to go back to grinding though 20 levels after this brilliant new system
