- I have had that three weapon problem too. That is one thing about the old interface I will not miss. :-)
Next time I see you headed to the Battle Coliseum, I'll remember to duck! :-)
- I stole a weapon earlier today and noticed the missing image. But when I selected the weapon, it told me which one it was. Once I found out, I could then use it or deselect it again. (Not perfect, certainly, but it works for now.)
Ooh, you're right! I somehow looked over that O.o Then it's not a problem xD
What a coincidence, I just beat Lich Lord with my pet too, and also noticed it. Like said, when we select the weapon the name will appear under the two-weapon toggle under the main weapon box. I don't find the weapon toggle particularly helpful but I guess when it comes to revealing stolen weapons' names it does the job :P
Do you notice that all images are at full opacity now? I've just completed my BQs and it feels so much better to be able to see all weapons :) Love this change so much :D.
I totally didn't see the text below the selected weapons :O I guess I'm more visually oriented that I thought..
I'd love some way to mass add/equip potions like Dark Water Potion. Perhaps a "turn it in" option like currencies or a potion vault. I often put off battling stronger opponents because it means equipping potions one by one and then replacing them one by one after each battle. Tedious and time consuming!
I still really love the new Battle set up. All out of arguments. <3
after fighting the two throwback challengers, I find I really like the new set up c:
one suggestion (probably been made already), it would be nice for the total damage/healing to appear higher up in the page/be more prominent.

Would it be possible to make a div with all the scrolls pop up when you click on the scroll to choose another one? Aka div is visible after clicking on current scroll and then hides after selecting a scroll. Do the same with potions. That way the scrolls and potions would be out of the way when not needed but be able to have the full spread with item icons when picking them. This shouldnt be too complex to code in from personal experience but i have no idea how complicated the battle logic half of things would complicate this.

Sorry for pinging you both, , but I wasn't sure who was the one I should ask:
Why is there so much space in the Swashbuckle text? When copy and pasting it, it's single space
So it requires scrolling just to see the rest of the text.
Can this be fixed, or is there a specific reason behind this annoying spacing?
Not sure if this is the right place to mention it, but the way to find what potions and shards are attached to your pets seems to be a little out of the way. Instead of going to the battle coliseum, you have to go to your pet's page and then click on attached weapons to see what potions are attached. Could there be a tab in the battle coliseum instead called "potions" where you can see all the potions that are attached to specific pets? I'm picturing a tab where you click on it and it brings up images of all your pets, like the stats page. Then when you click on your pet it shows you all the potions you have attached to that particular pet with a remove option under each potion or shard. You can still attach potions through the inventory but this way you can see all your equipment directly in the coliseum and remove all battle equipment directly from the battle coliseum.
Yes. I was at a loss for placeholders, so I asked the Invisible Man if he'd like to help out. He normally spends a lot of time helping people with treasure chests, so he was intrigued at getting to visit the Battle Coliseum for a change!
Anyway, I'm ready to implement the next iteration, which will:
Bring back images for scrolls and potions - I am hoping to implement a selection box for these much like the weapons one. Basically, a compact form of what we used to have. They won't need the extra boxes telling you what is selected since you can only select one, not two. And the item names will go under the pictures for each item. What will be different from the old layout is that they are not going to be radio buttons/check boxes, instead it will be similar to the new weapon selection that puts the border around what you select.
Return to full-width battle screen.
When you hover/select an item, there will be somewhere on the screen that gives you the details of that item: what icons and how many of each icon it does, if it has a chance to bless/freeze/curse, if it's once per battle, etc. All that information you'd otherwise have to go to subetalodge to look up, I want it to be available during the battle to help you strategize.
Don't freak out, but I want to try this thing where you click a button to go from the commentary to the move selection. Please, please don't freak out though. I know this is a big change from what you're used to, but it's something that works very perfectly well in other games that have battle, and it would definitely improve the engagement aspect in my opinion. Let me explain, using some terrible whiteboard sketches I made of my envisioned interface. The rationale behind this was the realization that my thought process before was mistaken. The goal shouldn't be to make the grind-y thing less tedious, but to make battle in general less grind-y! I hope doing something like this will encourage players to engage more with the game itself.
Okay, here we go. First off, here's the basic skeleton I have for the battle screen:

That blank space at the bottom is going to be where the commentary and weapon selection goes. So far, it's close to what we had before the change as it returns to a one-column layout.
Now here's the part that changes. Basically, I want that bottom screen to alternate between weapon selection and commentary. That is to say:
I'm hoping that this will encourage users to engage with the battle text and the actual strategy component, though of course, easier opponents will always be a bit of a grind just because they're below your level. Important note: The page will actually have both of these elements on it, so it will be possible to show both with customCSS if you do not want to be forced to click a button to switch to the next page.

This is the commentary screen. In essence, it's the first half of the page you used to see all the time. No huge changes here.
This is the weapon screen. Well, the top of it, anyway. If we take a closer look at just the item selection part, I'm hoping to make a more compact view by doing something like this:

Basically, the weapons are on the left side, and the potions/scrolls are on the right side. Doing this will give each option a bit more room while not making it so you have to scroll down a ton to see everything. In fact, giving weapons that much more space means I can add the item names under each weapon in the box too, including stolen weapons so you don't have to guess-and-check with those.
The header at the top of each screen (which are the parts that say "Battle Commentary" and "Do your things" or whatever I wrote on my whiteboard sketch) might double as a button. This is an idea I had but I'm concerned about someone accidentally clicking it. But if I do have that be a button in itself, then it eliminates the need to scroll down to make your move if you wanna grind through things with the preselections.
Speaking of preselections. I can make this something you choose on a per-battle basis. That is, before you enter the battle, along with the pet and weapon sets you can also choose to check a box that says "Turn on preselection for this battle" and it will use preselected weapons for that battle only. So yeah, tell me what you think about this as well as having the header be a button on its own.
Thanks for all the feedback (though it's been quite time-consuming to read haha) and I hope you like my thoughts about the next design iteration.
Oh and one last thing: I am in agreement that potions and scrolls should both stack, and this will certainly happen in the final layout. As always I appreciate your patience :)

This layout seems really interesting and like it could be an improvement from the first version. I'm curious to see it in action and how it really feels to use it, but I'm hopeful with what I see!
And I very much like the idea of being able to turn the pre-selecting weapons on or off for individual battles, that will make it nice for doing BQs vs doing other battling where you may be using different weapons more frequently. The seeing weapon info by hovering during battles sounds very useful as well.
Thanks again for all of your hard work! :)
[edit]Forgot to mention, I still think it would be nice if we could get the "Game Over" button to appear at both the top and the bottom of the page in this version. That way people who don't care about reading the commentary and such can just get out of the battle as soon as it's done and move on without having to scroll to find the button.
Lookin' GOOD! :)
+1 for a "Choose your Shit" button.
I really really really like the idea of having weapon info in the actual battle +1 for that too.
I'm not so sure about the alternating thing.
I mean, if you really need to strategize, I think it'd be much more helpful to have the damage/icons/whatever in front of you. If I'm reading you right, then this way you'd have to memorize what the challenger did and then try to pick out your weapons accordingly. Someone who's still learning would benefit more from being able to look back and forth between them imo.
I'm interested to see how this will play out!
I'm a bit worried about the planned format though. While I like the sound of more engagement, I still want to have to make less clicks rather than more, and not to have to scroll to make those clicks (like in the current layout, which saves heaps of time). Is that still possible?
I feel like an opt-out option for autoselecting would be better than opt-in, just for that reason! Less clicks so we can speed through easier challengers. C:
I'm with the others in that I want to try it out. I think it would be nice if you had two modes you could choose from: speed mode and detail mode. Off and on details spending on who you fight. I would rather it be a setting both on the individual battle page and more global. That way when doing my first 15 BQs I do speed, then I flip the switch for detail for the rest when I want to see what's going on. Same mode idea for auto select, per battle page and global. So when the easy gels are out I can blaze through with auto selected weapons with 35 pets and then turn it off once there are harder challengers I need to mix up what I use.
Hmm I will have to say...as long as this "commentary" doesn't pop up during things like battle quests, and just normal battling, I don't think it will be that invasive.
But if it makes questing take longer, you are going to have a LOT of angry battlers on your hands.
I don't think all those labels and the extra room you are granting them are necessary, because you have to make up weaponsets and scrollsets ahead of time. Their contents are not a surprise.
I don't like automatic stacking now, because it may interfere with the preset order of scrolls. For instant if I know I want to to three Screams from teh Pit and then a Holy Deluge to heal and then three more Screams will it interfere with that? Auto stacking for potions, this is a good thing.
<3<3<3 HUGE sigh of relief! This sounds really wonderful now. In battle hover!!! Thank you for taking all our concerns into account. Let's try this out
I'm slowly getting better into the routine of changing weapons and can live with the autoselect for no-one-hit battles as well, but would still prefer to choose battling with or without, because doublechecking, whether it worked, consumes extra time and attention.
Since we only use 1 scroll at a time autoselect will no longer be a hindrance once the full display is back, because it will only require one click to change to the one we need just as before - with the added comfort of being able to click on the image instead find the small square.
Re Potions Box: I believe I have 27 different items in there, no idea if that is the total of equipable shards, potions, etc. but I guess this will rather need a full width box under weapons and (stacked) scrolls in order to not stretch the choose your things part too much again. If we use weapons that generate items, this would of course even out again in lengthy battles.
If I fight an opponent again - with the same or a different pet, I go back in the browser to the choose your pet & sets page. So I hope it stays that way, that my selection stays put along with the opt in/out for preselected stuff. That's an incredibly fast way, because I don't have to bother with selecting sets and pet anew. I haven't even tried the more recently added "fight this opponent again" thingy.
