Who burned their cards? Man if Garrin and Sorn hadn't been fighting, I bet the latter would have burned them, or tried to! I mean, he already made the inkwells explode over the hink pinks, right ?
Good job everyone, and man did indeed craft a great puzzle! <3 It's so simple in retrospect -- but all the best puzzles are.
The way some people spell makes me wonder about their pronunciation. My CW shop, and my ping group
Congrats again teams! Way to go!
RIP Mom, I love & miss you more than you know. Tell Dede hi.
Ocean Conservation Namibia on YouTube... they do good work! https://www.ocnamibia.org
- Chook burned Travelers cards, as you can see in our roleplay.
- thank you for posting this answer - this one gave me total fits and it was really so simple. You got me this time! :-)
Congratulations to those of you who figured this out. Wow - very impressive.
Travelers - I almost had it. When I couldn't figure out the last few cards because they made no sense at all to me relative to any of the voices, I actually wound up using the fact that they came from the Loyalty Shop and BHH respectively to assign them to categories, but I didn't think to continue and check that for all fifty cards (sorry guys).
I thought you made a spell that duplicated the cards, so we still have them. You did very well to sort them at all. No need to apologize. When I was doing the description of the items I did not even think to look at where they came from.

- HeiYu just conjured up a research book - she would not have tried to duplicate a Teller's card deck - to her that would be like copying another mage's spell book! And I'm not sure whether copies would have the same powers as the originals. :-) On the other hand, if it turns out we really need them for the plot, I suppose she could have made a temporary substitution with her spell because she was worried that Chook would really burn them and wanted to protect them. In that case, she would have quietly returned the originals to Irella when Chook headed for the tavern. Which may explain why Irella seems to be amused rather than angry. (Or something like that)
Thanks for the kind words. Just feel like I had the answer right there in front of me, so should have worked a little bit harder. Not a big deal in the big scheme of things, but still ...
, we may not have solved it but we gave a good laugh! ;) You all did great!
Oh man yeah this was tough, I thought long and hard about sorting as it shows in our rp but was still way off. After posting ours I let myself read the other teams and thought that the ones who found the items places on subeta was genius, so Im not surprised that was the way to sort!
Great job to all who got it! And to those who didnt I hope you all had fun like I did with it.
Thank you so much (and also ) for this amazing challenge, I really loved it! It was so clever and well thought up and fits the story so nicely and we had a lot of fun doing the puzzle and RP! <3 <3 <3

palm to the face Oh well.... we'll get caught up next chapter.

Huh. This is the nearest I will come to a formal complaint without actually doing so.
In our game, we have taken the roles of travelers who pass between dimensions to another world. We have been instructed that this world does not have any connection, knowledge or understanding of the culture of Subeta. And yet, here is this puzzle where we are to sort 50 items into 5 groups clearly based on a Subetan shop where each item is stocked. Nope. This is not logical or conceivable within the guidelines and context of our Role-Play as set forth by precident or game rules.
That some groups nailed it, fantastic. Our group was trying to play within the world we are constrained to as part of this Role-Play and attempted to logically fit the items into categories that would work within the WWS world, not the Subetaverse. Therefore, we gave no consideration at all that these 50 items might be related solely because they came from Subeta.net
The puzzle is an excellent puzzle and did a wonderful job. It just didn't fit our understanding within the context of the role play.
There. I have vented, I am better now, I will brush out my tail, change my underthingies and resume playing sweetly.
.. our group had problems with the roleplay context also. Including the description on the cards because are we really suppose to see that? We were still split on it when I turned in our roleplay ;)
(Hence burn the cards.. snickers)
From the very beginning of Wayward Squirrel we have been told that we are only to utilize items that are found on Subeta. This has not changed throughout the years. The first year we had to list our supplies and could only draw from Subeta items. Being one of the teams that totally blew this chapter by thinking too much about it and making it over complicated we accept that we got it wrong and are moving on to the next chapter. We did figure out that it was connected to Subeta shops just didn't assign the voices correctly. There is still a lot of WWS left and it's any teams game to win.

: I appreciate your remark. : Perhaps our teams have contrived self-imposed constraints that the designers of the game did not invoke or imagine. I, for one, am now going to bring into action the superpowers that I use in my other Subeta-based role plays to allow me to operate outside the boundaries and to think outside the box. "Blood-Lust Powers...ACTIVATE!" :)
.. outside the box works well.. also burning! ;)
there is a message posted in a few places where WS teams go.. "LOOKING for copy of strange cards"
Obviously, there is some clarification needed, and it probably should be stated in the rules, so for that, I apologize. I'm also very sorry that some of you are so upset by a puzzle. Yes, it happens every go-round, usually on math, but I always feel sorry when it does.
That being said, there are a number of reasons I state the world of WS is separate from Subeta, the first and foremost of which is the rules. Nothing will put anyone in perma-frost faster than claiming to be anything or anyone "official" in any aspect to Subeta when they are not.
Wayward Squirrel is a PLAYER run event. I am ONLY a player and this entertainment is simply a fun exercise that in NO WAY relates to the "official world" of Subeta, nor am I EVER anything but a simple player. It is also open to ALL Subetans, and this forum group is designed for ease, not exclusion.
That is the main guideline that I have followed, and always will, just as other player run events and RPs make it very clear that they also are simply that. Now, Subeta is a great atmosphere for making it easy to play, as it has tons of wonderful locations and items to use, and that makes construction of challenges possible.
In an RP that has an HA contest? Don't you dress in Subeta items? Mock combats? Don't they use Subeta challengers? Many groups have used item-matching before--with Subeta items. I truly never imagined this would be an issue. I do feel confident that, if you somehow managed to sort and relate all of the items another way that was successful, the judges will give you full credit, and I will urge them to do so.
Nevertheless, I do think many of you fall prey to this insightful observation:
Please bear this is mind and ask me beforehand. I would have been pleased to answer a simple question such as, "are these all items all Subeta related?" I consider this clarification and not asking for a hint.
Hopefully this helps?
(PS: did not craft the puzzle. She only selected the items, which, in my opinion, "Sealed the deal." Any blame for your consternation lies directly with me. I am the author of this! She deserves only praise!)
, our team went with the flow.. no one is upset and none of us thought to ask bangs head BUT we are good with the puzzle and have no complaints. We were just somewhat divided but it all worked out.
Your explanation however does help those that were confused I'm sure, thank you!
PS.. it was a very good puzzle you crafted... and took a lot of thought... thanks for the great pictures!
PPS Any way the Travelers can get another deck if we need it? sneaks the question in
