"Mimsy is thinking it depending on elf, sir. Some is getting stronger others is getting weaker. Sick elf cannot do as much magic Mimsy is thinking. Strong elf is finding more power maybe."

Eirik nodded. " I suppose that happens with most beings, that it's subjective with just about anything. Thank you."

"How does wizard magic affect you...meaning, like if let's say, you got sick, and you were given a potion. Does it work on you..? "

"Wizard magic helpings house elves. Master Bartley is taking care of Mimsy when she is sick. He is giving her potions and making her better. Poison workings the same too, sir."

Eirik nodded, then frowned. "Poisons too...thats a sad thing to know about....are you born being able to do magic, or does it show up at a certain age..? Do you learn more control over it as you get older, like how us wizards have emotional outbursts of magic before we come to school and learn how to control the magic....?"

"Mimsy apperated on her day of birth. She was in cot wanting Mother and apperated into Mother's arms. Mother is telling Mimsy when she is older. Mother is proud when it is happening. She is thinking young one is strong. Other spells Mimsy is needing training."

"Wow, Mimsy, that's impressive ! " Eirik exclaimed. "Did you feel proud when she told you about that when you were older..?"

"Yes, sir, Mimsy is very proud. Means Mimsy is a good house elf."

Magnus smiled and called the workshop to order. "Okay, so we are almost at the end of the workshop. Now its time for open questions and answers. So er, 'ave at 'em."

Aria woke up from her nap, stretched, and yawned. She had almost forgotten where she was or why she was outside until she heard her brother's voice asking for questions. She blushed deeply at having had fallen asleep during a discussion but hoped he would not take it personally. She smiled awkwardly at her brother and shrugged her shoulders, trying to look pathetically helpless. "Sorry, I must have been really tired," She apologized to Magnus. Aria sat up straight, still stretching her body out. "I think you did a really fantastic job with this workshop," Aria praised her brother.

Magnus hadn't realised Aria had fallen asleep and tried his best not to look offended. He nodded when she thanked him and said it was a good workshop, but he couldn't help but wonder exactly how good his workshop was if she'd fallen asleep.

(( OOC: I'm laughing at his response. I just had her fall asleep for that last little bit because I was too caught up in RL/migraines to do the RP - she needed an excuse for her silence. Well, Aria can't respond to what Magnus was thinking, but I can. You seriously did a great job. I was thinking about it and couldn't figure out how you knew so much about house elves! ))

Eirik sighed, and took a deep breath.

"Alright Mimsy, I have some questions for you, and I am preparing you ahead of time that you probably won't like them. There are a lot of people who own house elves, and they all aren't treated as well as you are, so..if you can, please, try to imagine these things that I am asking about, ok..?

1. How do you feel that your kind can be dismissed, bought and sold like property...discarded on a whim? Killed, even ?

2. Do you think that if you had a child, you would be happy if someone decided you couldn't ever see it again, and just sold it..? How do you think other mother elves would feel.., or your own mother ?

3. What if a master decided that it made him happy to severely beat his house elf, for no other reason than it pleased him. Would you feel sorry for that elf, and wish there was something that could be done because he was being hurt without a good reason..?

4. In that situation, the abused house elf, do you think it would be better for the elf to stay in that situation rather than be dismissed and not have work..? Is pain better than shame..?

5. Does it bother you to think that many masters do not care what their house elf thinks, or feels, or it's health, as long as they obey..?

6. If all these things were true, and someone saw them happening, don't you wish that someone would step in and try to protect the house elf..? To pass laws so that people couldn't hurt them, or disrespect them, and had to give them all nice homes and love like you have..? Wouldn't you want that for your race..?"

Eirik sighed again.

"I know this is upsetting to you, and its upsetting to me, because these things happen every day. That's why people like me, and Ms Weasley, stick our noses in where they don't belong, because we don't want to see anyone/thing suffer.

Would you want to see Kippers treated like this..? Magnus..?"

Eirk sat back, waiting for the backlash. He needed answers, even if it meant shattering some illusions. Maybe Mimsy would realize how good she had it, and feel compassion for her kind that was suffering. Either way, he said his peace without tiptoeing around a sheltered house elf. He didn't want to hurt her, but this was the reality of her people's lives, and it needed to change.

Magnus was upset. He had sent Mimsy away to avoid this. The boy was shaking uncontrollably. "Mimsy, leave now," he ordered with as much calm as he could manage. The house elf vanished with a crack before answering a single question. "'Ow dare you?!" he whirled on Eirik his voice seething. "You knew I sent 'er away for that reason. You think we don't know what goes on with 'ouse elves? You dare to assume you can 'urt her after you already knew 'ow upset she was? Your little council or not you had no right to do that. None at all. You insult my Dad's elf, my dad and me by 'urting her. She's a kind soul and she didn't deserve that, she ain't done nothing to you."

Paddy listened to Eirik's question and couldn't help but feel sorry for Mimsy and Magnus. She didn't know much about other House Elves, but she figured that Mimsy was happy with her working conditions, and wouldn't be likely to want to answer those questions. Watching Magnus' reaction, her thoughts were confirmed as he rounded on Eirik. She couldn't blame him, as he'd tried his hardest to protect Mimsy from anything that might be distressing for her. She wasn't sure that saying anything would improve the situation though.

Eirk was surprised that Magnus was so angry. He stood up and looked down at the boy.

"You think, " he said, trying to keep himself under control," that my questions intentionally hurt her...? GOOD, maybe she needs to have her EYES OPENED so she can understand what it means for her people to be SLAVES, so she can give a shit about change and stop acting like she's just a part of the family. She's property, nothing more than beloved property !!"

He snarled. "And you have the audacity to get mad at me..??? Because I spoke the TRUTH..??? "

Merlin has been silent for a little while and just listening and was pretty shocked for the direct questions at Mimsy and by Magnus response as well. He could understand they wanted to protect Mimsy but leaving her in complete ignorace wasn't a good thing in Merlin's eyes. "I'm sorry to interrupt, but I know this things may be upsetting for Mimsy but do you think living in complete darkness of what happens to her race is any good? Maybe because of that ignorance is that many follow orders without objecting to them no matter how humiliating or destructive they can be. I know Eirik ( ) asked too much at once but I don't think it is insulting to bring these issues because by hiding them we are not going to solve them. besides he is only trying to do something to stop injustice and want the house elves opinion in the matter, how can they have any opinion if they know nothing? Or does she knows and just tries not to think about it? That won't solve it either." Merlin was upset, and he doesn't get upset easily but injustice was something he couldn't tolerate.

Eirik didn't turn to look, but he said "Thank you, Merlin."

"Yes, I 'ave the audacity to call you out on being a colossal prat. I'd use stronger words, but I ain't gonna. You throw everything in about defending the defensless and then you berated a defenceless elf. You throw things cruely in 'er face and think it good and acceptable and you think that me being mad is wrong? You know nothing. You clearly 'aven't 'eard a word I said. She is NOT property! Not to me, not to my father. She is my family member, you bastard and I would've thought you'd respect me a bit more. And I will damn well defend my family. You know nothing, nothing about my family and you presume to make judgements? You have no idea what my father went through with her. You don't know what it was like for 'im. And you don't know what I've been through either. So maybe you'd better get some facts before you attack me or my family. I dare say I know a lot more about abuse."

He managed to say "she's not ignorant. She knows what 'appens."

"I think everyone should calm down a bit, yelling won't solve anything. It is wonderful Mimsy is loved, protected, and part of your family...just wish it was the same for every house elf. My family don't own one or intent to - My mother and I believe in absolute freedom, and the pets we have are free to leave if they desire. I don't know about house elves much, but I do know they suffer more than I probably know. Thanks for the workshop Magnus, I say goodbye for now and hope Mimsy is alright, just don't be so hard on Eirik...he does know about suffering, and you know that."

Magnus was visibly shaking. He nodded to Merlin's calmer words. It was close to the full moon, tempers flared quicker. "I want the same thing, Merlin. Fanks, I tried. Yeah, I know." But then so had Magnus.
