The addition of the tiny owl singing to him was too much for the boy who was crying with laughter. He petted the little bird. Safely on the ground, Magnus didn't miss the comment and the Ravenclaw asked, "Spellz? You 'ave a 'ouse elf or is that this little guy's name?"
"That's my owl's name, Spellz. He is so tiny and adorable, but is pretty smart." The owl flied back to Merlin's shoulder and made another sound. "You are a good boy Spellz." Merlin looked at Mimsy. "Do you like owls and other animals Mimsy? Would you like to pet him?"
"'E's adorable," Magnus said honestly.
"Mimsy is liking animals, sir. Mimsy is liking almost every animals, sir. Though Mimsy isn't liking acromantulas." She shuttered visibly. When he asked if she'd like to pet the owl she nodded and cooed petting the owl softly, with a delicate touch. "You is pretty owl, you is handsome."

Eirik watched as Magnus was levitated, and rocked like a baby. He was surprised at first, then when Spellz began to hoo-sing, he started laughing.
Mimsy seemed to be in a better mood, and he didnt want to get angry again with her, so he decided he would just let other people talk. He would watch her body language, how she reacted to to questions, for that would tell him as much, if not more, than direct communication.

When Mimsy () once more apparated into the pavilion, Fade perked up considerably. He missed her last appearance, and was looking forward to saying hello again. Even Chase made a sound that seemed pleased, though he remained on Fade’s shoulder watching Spells () carefully with large round eyes. “Hey there Mims, long time no see.” Fade grinned at her and watched carefully as she demonstrate her magical abilities. “I’ve heard some people say House Elf magic is stronger than ours, and that they choose to serve… Or something like that.” He wondered if it wasn’t similar to the reason why your cat would bring you dead animal gifts. Needing all the help we can get and whatnot.
"I'm glad you like animals Mimsy, so do I. I can't blame you for not liking acromantulas, there are a few creatures I rather not have in front either." Merlin smiled at the elf. "I really admire the use of magic by house elves since they don't need a wand, and wands can sometimes be a bit troublesome. But maybe if house elves could use wands their magic would be even greater, what do you think?"
Spellz felt being stare at and stare back at Chase then made a sound and flied around Merlin's head. "Come back here." Not long after Spells returned to his shoulder but not without giving a few glances back at Fade and Chase. "Go say hello if you want, but if that cat touches you, I will turn it into a mouse."
"Master Fade," the little elf exclaimed as she ran up and threw herself around his leg. "Mimsy is happy to be seeing you. Master Bartley must be annoyed with Mimsy. Mimsy is saying she is hoping to see Master Fade and here is Master Fade. Mimsy still loves her drawing you is giving her. She is staring at it every day." She nodded at his comment and Merlin's question. "Wizards are doing wandless magic, sir. Wands make magic more focused, stronger. If Mimsy used wand, her magic is being stronger. Though Mimsy is not using wand. Wand using is illegal for house elves. She is not sure she would use if it was not. She is liking wandless."

Mimsy seemed to be in a good mood. Her body language showed she was relaxed and receptive to questions, so he thought he might venture one or two.
"Mimsy, I was curious about your magic. Were you taught how to do it by your mother, and if so, is that how all your kind 'learns' to do magic...? Also, since it's non-verbal, do you just think about what you want to have happen, and it happens..?"
'If this was the case,' Eirik thought, 'indeed...house elves were quite powerful, and wizards were quite lucky that they chose to be subservient.'

"Mother trained Mimsy in some, yes. Some magic is needing training. Some things we is born knowing, like breathing, sir." She nodded. "Mimsy is seeing what she is wanting and it is happening. Some is spells, sir, like wizards. Some is seeing what we is wanting." The little elf smiled tentatively.
Paddy scribbled down some notes as Mimsy was answering the questions; it wasn't that she didn't want to ask the House Elf anything, more like everyone else had already asked the questions that she'd thought of.

Eirik nodded. "That's actually pretty cool, Mimsy...I wish we wizards were able to do that. What about your 'apparation?' Is that something that you had to learn, or did that come naturally..? I especially ask because we have to be trained and take tests and get licensed in order to do that...its an involved process, " he said, chuckling. "I think it would be just really cool to think where you wanted to go and it just happened," he said with a smile.

"Naturally sir, Mimsy is knowing where she is wanting and Mimsy is going." Her smile broadened with his praise.
Paddy finished writing her sentence and thought of a question that didn't seem to have been answered yet. "I know that House Elves tend to work for a family, so I guess that when a family member dies, they would just work for the other family members. But what happens when there's no other family members left to serve, or if the only family members were in Azkaban or something so they couldn't be served in the normal way? Would a House Elf just try to find work elsewhere?" ()

Eirik waited until Mimsy answered Paddy's question before he asked more of them.
Eirik nodded. "Have you ever tested the range of your apparation...? Meaning, can you actually cross vast distances, like continents..? Have you ever taken anyone with you when you apparate..? If so, does it affect how easy it is for you to get where you are going..?"
Eirik was completely fascinated now, with their natural ability to move about like that. "Do you have any idea why it is that you can apparate into Hogwarts, when no one is supposed to be able to do that..? I mean, do you feel the magical barrier and just go through it, or not sense it all..?"

Mimsy frowned and didn't quite know how to reply. "Mimsy is not knowing wizard law, Miss." She looked at Magnus slightly distressed.
"Normally most 'ouse elves are left in wills," Magnus piped in, "but when they aren't I believe they go and find a family and ask to serve them. Don't worry Mimsy, Dad's got you covered in 'is will. You'd go to me because you can help with me shifting and all." He also answered Eirik. "She can take people. When I was shifting early she took me to the 'ospital wing and then to Saint Mungos as I was too far out o' control at that point. Took a lot of stunning me. Mimsy 'ad to use her magic to even keep me in control to get to Saint Mungos."
The elf relaxed and hugged Magnus' leg. Then she regarded Eirik's question. She went up to him, held his leg and they both disappeared. She arrived in the kitchens with Eirik beaming, after a few house elves foisted a few goodies on him, Mimsy apperated them both back to the same spot they were in. "Mimsy is thinking large distances would be harder. Mimsy is not liking the idea of going to America--lots of water. Mimsy hasn't tested limits. Hogwarts is using Wizard magic, sir. Mimsy is using house elf magic. Mimsy is thinking wizard magic is different. She is not feeling any barrier."

Eirik listened to what Magnus had to say in answer to the questions. He was surprised when Mimsy came up to him, and even more so when they were suddenly in the kitchen. He had barely enough time to focus when he was given treats, and then whoosh ! back to the pavilion they appeared.
He grinned stupidly for a moment at the experience he had just been through, then he laughed. "That was AWESOME Mimsy, thank you !!" He was glad he would never forget the event, so he could, years later, compare it to when he had learned to apparate himself.
"I think you might be right, Mimsy, that wizards and house elves do different types of magic. Now you have me wondering if its just a different approach to tapping into the same energies, or using different energies altogether." Eirik looked thoughtful, and put away his treats for later.
"Do you ever get worn out or tired from doing a lot of magic..? Meaning, does it drain you..?" he asked Mimsy.

Mimsy was very excited to have made the boy happy. "Anytime, sir. Mimsy is happy to make you happy." She shook her head. "Mimsy is not knowing this. Eventually, sir Mimsy might tire. If she did really big magic and she is doing more after she might get tired. Wizards do this too, yes? They is tiring after long battle?"

Eirik smiled at Mimsy. "Yes, I would think that wizards do get tired doing a lot of magic. I know that I used to before I changed. Now...I don't get tired, from anything, so..." he shrugged. "That's not say I might not have ill effects from doing too much magic, or things that are...beyond what I have done before."
He looked thoughtful once more. "Mimsy, gave you ever heard of any of your kind's magic affecting creatures that have magic resistance..? Such as giants...? It would lend credibility to the theory that your magic and wizard magics are different."

Magnus put his hand on Eirik's shoulder. A small gesture but he hoped the older boy was comforted.
"Giants are hard, sir. Acromantulas are hard too, sir. Werewolves are hard too, sir. Mimsy would use spells around them rather than on them if she can. Mimsy can do it, but requires strong magic sir. Easier to stopping them with other means. Making a barrier with magic--it is strong magic but easier than on them sir."

Eirik looked up, surprised, at Magnus, then gave him a smile. Then he turned his attention back to Mimsy.
"Alright, thank you, Mimsy. I think that your plan to use magic not actually on said creatures is a good one. Affect things around it, which can then affect the creatures themselves." He nodded.
"Ah, I was curious about this...does your magical ability diminish with old age...? Perhaps you have heard stories passed down that spoke of your elders finding it harder to do magic than when they were younger..? On that line of thinking, has your kind found that as the years pass/decades go by that you have developed any new sort of magical abilities that you couldn't do when you were younger..? Not just being more powerful with age type of things."
