With all due respect Keith, is there a legal reason why you can't accept volunteers from outside the USA to help you with Subeta? I've offered several times and been told "You can't because you live in Canada." I'm not asking to be paid. During the winter, I have loads of free time and it would be nice to do something productive with it. I am now, no longer in a position to volunteer to help.
You're smart. I can tell. You created this site and you've kept it going this long. I would not make a suggestion in this matter unless I knew it could be done with minimal work on your side. Doing nothing is very minimal, but it's obviously not an option. I don't have a gallery, and I've never had that much in my shop, so these proposed changes don't affect me. But I see a lot of angry people. The last thing you want to do, and you know this, is to piss off so many people they decide to abandon Subeta. With the amount of anger I'm seeing, I fear this is what may happen.
The news posts have identified the shop searches as the things that are bogging down the system and creating the 502s. The new description of the shops and galleries still describes them together which tells me that you're using the same tables for both. You're easily smart enough to recognize that loading those tables down with rows that will be excluded from every shop search will simply lengthen those shop searches which is what this redesign is seeking to avoid. My recommendation, in case I wasn't clear is save yourself work and headaches!. Concentrate on the shops, because that's what's needed right now. Leave the galleries where they are because they work sufficiently well right now. Deal with them later. Don't create more work for yourself than you need to!

Considering he's already pissed off enough people to seriously impact the site's income, user abandonment is more of a "when" than an "if." And it still hasn't deterred him from his current, destructive course of action.
I mean, he could take a more sensible approach, but it's pretty clear that he's made up his mind, and what Keith wants, Keith gets, and to hell with the users and their opinions. We're just the people who financially support his pet project, after all, not anyone important enough to listen to or respect.
I hope you're wrong, but I know you are right.

Despite the poor roll-out off an unfinished product that isn't "ready" for beta testing, I understand the need to push forward with it as quickly as possible regardless, so the data can be collected and the bugs fixed and the roll-over made live as soon as possible to make the site more usable, quicker. It's obvious that staff recognizes that the current limits are too low, as it should be obvious to the user base by now that they need to start low because they cant be set higher then decreased. Staff recognized a long time ago that encouraging hoarding for hoardings sake was a bad idea and though the change took too long to come about, it is needed. Even still hoarding will be a thing and staffs not looking to prevent it, just not to encourage it. If you want to own thousands of pretties and shinies you still can, this doesn't change that.
As someone who keeps a rather tidy WL of generally things I actually want to actively buy, I GREATLY look forward to being able to reliably WL search in any shop to make sure I'm not missing out on anything whether it be unpriced or hidden in some category, etc.
We're going to have lag and errors, even with the shop having limits. It's inevitable, because Subeta's coding is grossly outdated.
We're just going to have slightly less, until everything that's a strain on the system is going to be capped. I really, really, really hope the wardrobe is next. I still believe that having an infinite wardrobe is not good for the site.
And, if not the wardrobes, the vaults.
Yeah it really sucks. I guess this is just the start of a series of potential caps then? Woof.

This is what I feel is going to be happening, yes.
If the shops and galleries are hell for the servers, I don't think the wardrobe, with the tables for the items, plus the layers, plus all of the base options, are that much better for the servers. I'm going to predict it's gonna be capped by the end of 2016, or early 2017. I can't imagine Keith just letting the wardrobe be infinite forever.
I have no problem with a shop cap. I just want it to be realistic from the get-go.
I can't see the wardrobe being capped in the immediate future since CWs are a big reason users buy CSC. It would be short-sighted to limit something that people spend real money on. From what I understand from the admin posts, vaults and wardrobes function differently on the site (I vaguely understand the specifics, but I don't want to misrepresent what was said). Since and other staff have all stated multiple times that the limits will be raised after beta testing, I would say it's probably a good idea to withhold any further frustrations until we have an idea of what the limits actually look like. I think we'll have a better idea of what's going on in two days when Grace is back.
I like 's suggestion of using the new system solely for the user shops and keeping the old system for galleries for the time being. That seems to be the biggest frustration for most users since the shop limits will be raised. I don't know how feasible that is since I have no real experience with coding/programming.
I don't understand why users are freaking out and trying to move entire galleries to the new system. The legacy shops and galleries aren't going to close on the 17th. You won't be able to add new items, but you can remove things whenever the hell you want. It doesn't have to be done in the next 6 days.
With all the dialogue that's been going on and what the staff has been saying, Vesnali better go smoother than ever! (And hopefully cleaned up code means the next plot will be 502/504 error free)
Yes, CWs are nice and all, but the wardrobe sincerely does need a maximum item cap. There are lots of wardrobes with 15 000 items in them, where 14 500 of these items are never used, and they are also a drain on the servers.
CWs bring money to the site. So does the autopricer.
I'm copying what I posted in the official thread thing.
anyone else who may know. Currently, shops & galleries have a 500K/item limit, meaning, you can have under 500K of one item, but as soon as you hit that, or go over, the items all go into a black hole of sorts and are "gone" but not gone.
I have almost 850,000 free beers between my gallery and vault, will I be able to add ALL of them to my free beer hoard gallery or is the limit still in place ? Also hahahahaha jesus fucking christ hahahahahah I am so fucking not looking forward to quick stocking the 470K I have in Psychedelia's Shinies. Fuck me.
Addendums, the 500K thing was something I found out about as I started on my free beer hoard mission of BEER ARMY. The account search isn't even working for me anymore for that item, I have about 200K moved into my new gallery for the beer, 260K in my inventory, and the rest in my vault......It's been FUN quickstocking because I JUST CANNOT RELY ON SUBETA to have a WORKING quickmove bulk between old and new shops item in the mystical future of SOON. I'm not even worrying about the rest of my gallery for the time being, and holy shitsnack, the vaults..... the vaults of so many..... so so many......
collecting I don't think you understand how databases work. Your wardrobe, unless actively being used, is just a bunch of 0s and 1s stored in space on the server. It isn't negatively impacting site usage because of this. Having caps instated on wardrobes wouldn't make sense because this has been recoded recently.
Shops which are a majoy component of commerce in Subeta haven't been recoded in some time. The search functions are constantly being accessed for quests, for wishlist searches and various other reasons. Because this data is being accessed more frequently its vastly more detrimental to the overall performance of the server as the queries occur more often.
If I have claimed a Dance from you and do not immediately Dance I will get back to you.

[/font]I'm just wondering how many people will be dropping the prices in their shops drastically to get rid of stuff before having to move to smaller shops.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the current wardrobe (v3) not on the main Subeta layout?

We're making some progress on moving items! I've changed the "all" on the page to actually make the drop down the max instead of refreshing the entire page (still need to do this on the input boxes, when there are too many items).
Right now this works by putting the items in a queue, managed by the amazon simple queue service - so we didn't build a system from scratch and also has a ton of protection features ensuring that nothing gets lost into the abyss. Fortunately, the same queueing can be used from moving items in other ways, so the programming team can continue to build on this as we make tools to move items from places to your new shops/galleries, and increase the limits :) I've already made a few optimizations today on the new shops from the testing done already, and am really optimistic about being able to raise the limits.
This is currently in code review, which is another process long overdue at Subeta. Making it a requirement should really lessen the number of bugs let into the wild, and ensure that everyone is able to take a look at something before it goes out. Right now is on vacation (her mom is visiting) so this likely won't be pushed until Wednesday, with a few more changes :)

Your post is exactly why we have to put in limits, you're actually breaking the site because we made a mistake with the beer.

I'm still going to keep my 14k items in my old gallery (the one I call my "treasure chest"). I am not bothering with moving them. Will galleries ever go on a separate system?? I still don't like the fact galleries are affected too
I really wish this would get moved back somewhat, given that there's an upcoming site event, coder's on vacation, and the code for a mass move isn't written yet.
I do not understand this inexplicable urgency.
I'd like to know why Staff is avoiding responding to a lot of posts here or only replying to what they want to reply to in certain posts. It's like they're deliberately pretending certain posts (or parts of posts) don't even exist and only reply to the ones that seem to be in agreement with this whole new system. Apparently half the userbase in this thread are invisible or ignored.

I kow that mine could looks like the dumbest consideration about this big change of the site, but it would be nice to lower the price for adding stickers by the hustler, I have a lot of them saved for the hoard achiev and I can't spend my day looking for someone generous to stick me, and more sincerely don't want to spend a fortune at the hustler. Would you mind to think about this? May I have an answer thanks
Thank you and keep up the good work :) hopefully everything will work smoothly and on schedule :)
