Get fierce about the limits. 10k minimum! SCARE THEM INTO SUBMISSION!
look at you guys being all hardworking moving things all over. kudos. while i'm here just waiting for remove all button or the shop to be totally disable.
Oh, I think people are making their feelings about this debacle quite clear, they're voting with their pocketbooks. Have you noticed the drastic drop in donations?

I did notice! I'm just pissed because I bought $50 a few days before this announcement because I have a cw to submit, but now I don't even know if I want to submit it because I don't know if I want to stick around anymore. I don't want to be one of those people that can't leave but just complains about everything. I love subeta but decisions they make just annoy me more and more lately :(
I have many friends here and I really don't want to leave, but I am getting really tired of the bad business decisions and how clear it is that they're not listening to their users.

Yeah and the constant back tracking. Saying one thing then doing another. Starting projects and never finishing them, never to be mentioned again. Not having any foresight to see how things like this go despite having over a decade of experience. Rolling out a beta test then the programmer goes on holiday...wtf timing? This couldn't have waited a week? All of these things are bringing my head to a boil and I feel about ready to explode 'JUST GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER ALREADY!'
From your mouth to their ears. I find myself wondering if maybe Keith just wants to get out of Subeta altogether...

He owns it though, If that were the case couldn't he just....not fix it when it messes up some time and just not come back?
Yeah, I guess. I just can't figure out his reasoning, is all

I honestly think he just doesn't know what to do anymore. Like subeta is so big (content wise) that it's hard to fix it and the code is some broken shitty code he wrote when he was like 14 or something and will take a lot of money and time to completely rewrite and maybe it's not cost effective? Or he just lost touch with subeta reality idk, but I figure if he wanted to do away with subeta he could just not log into it. Idk either though :(
IDK, seems to me a one-time expense to fix things right would be a good investment, but what do I know?
I'm gonna take a break for a few hours and then come back to work on things. Keep strong!

I fully agree. I have suggested this more than once to the team and gotten no feed back. This transition to a new shop system offers the best opportunity for this split. Keeping the galleries and shops in the same table simply overloads the shop tables, increasing their size and thus their processing time, for no benefit to anyone, and to the detriment of everyone.
To most users, a gallery is a collection, just like the beanbag and plushie collections, except that it is for things that are not beanbags or plushies or pumpkins or anything else where there is a dedicated collection mechanism. Because galleries can take things out of the economy and thus raise shop prices, they should be encouraged. So a gallery should be seen more like a collection than as a shop. So logically, this argues once again for separating galleries from shops.
A very easy short-term solution, since the old shop/gallery system is not to be taken down immediately after the new shop/gallery system is installed is simply to make the new system "shop-only" and the old system "gallery-only". That takes the load off the creeky old system while keeping the gallery people happy and keeping the game functional. This does not mean that I advocate keeping the creeky old system forever, but the more modular the system is, the easier it is fix something without breaking something else.
Splitting shops and galleries means some changes to the HTML, PHP, and JavaScript, which are the easy parts of a web-site to change. The drop down menus need to have a Gallery section, and I'd put it under personal instead of commerce because, as you note, galleries are not commerce. In the item page, Move To section, there would need to be added a "Move to a gallery". In the User Profiles, a new box for "Galleries" needs to be added. Account Search needs to take it into account too. Those are the key places I see in the short term. We can pick-up the other places later as we discover them. Since these locations need to be edited when the new shop system goes fully live, that's the time to make these edits. And we're talking a lot of cut and paste. This would not be difficult work.
I could explain how to completely rebuild the galleries once they are split off, but we can save that for later. (What surprises me about Subeta is how much code is not re-used. Too much unnecessary uniqueness in too many areas.)
Suffice to say, what I recommend for people with galleries right now is that they keep them on the old system and not move them to the new system. The admins have said the old system will persist for awhile after the new shop system is in place. If we want bigger and faster shops than they are currently offering, we need to keep the shop tables small which means keeping the galleries out of them. (Besides, if everyone does it, they may just decide that this suggestion is a good one and stop being stubborn about the whole thing.)
At the same time, we soon probably want to encourage people to start moving their shops over to the new system. The sooner it is working properly, the better it then becomes for everyone.
And any admin who says "It's not that simple", please stop insulting your own intelligence. I know how hard and how easy these things are because I now do this kind of work as part of my living. It's simpler than you think. Keith did wonders when he started, but all programmers get wiser as they gain experience with age. Making a break from the old system, something you're already doing, is the time to rebuild it right. This is your opportunity to make it or break it.

Well I remember last year I think it was? Suggested a coding fund drive like a kickstarter type thing and a lot of people were for it. I don't know why that didn't go anywhere but I'm sure he could have raised the funds for someone else to come in and rewrite the code?
Oh well, I'm really glad about the autopricing news! I guess they'll tell us what'll happen to extra galleries... eventually.
Thanks for the info you guys :*
Not giving the site your money will always be the best way. :)
But then if they are not making any money, They could shut down the site due to lack of funds and then....Well, There will be no galleries to worry about anyhow xD

<p>Not moving anything is the best way to protest. You are a genius.
Not giving the site your money will always be the best way. :)
I'm already doing that. And, apparently, a lot of people are also doing that
It's 1:15 PM and the daily goal is at 10%, and has not been over 50% since the announcement.
Sure, they could. That would leave a lot of people without the pixels they collected.. but even worse, it would put dozens of staff members out of a job.
I certainly hope that and the other higher ups on Subeta staff are tracking what money is coming in, and would realize that something needed to be changed to improve the way players feel about the site so they continue to spend before it gets to the 'let's just shut down' stage.
Oh I think they are already aware of what this has done to their profits over the last few days, But I think they will most likely push on regardless because they know/think we will calm down once they tell us they have increased the limit from 250/500 to 500/1000 (woohoo, SO grateful, That's SO much better, THANK YOU THANK YOU!) But the silence has been deafening over the last few days!
