I agree with that, too. However, there are some features that really shouldn't even exist - minion battling for one. That's 100% a Neopets thing that's trying to be implemented over here. I've never liked petpet battling on Neopets and now it was trying to be introduced here. I don't understand it.
Staff has said that they can fix things without taking the site down. That's fine. However, some things/features on site aren't interconnected. Galleries/shops aren't really attached to wardrobes, with maybe the exception of adding an item bought from shops to wardrobe and the buy button feature being in the wardrobe. If anything, remove those options from both wardrobe and shops until things are fixed/finished 100%. Taking these add/buy features away from wardrobe would disconnect the wardrobe from the shops. That would maybe help with finalising things better. There must be other ways of disconnecting things from each other in a way where it could help things can get done before interconnecting things again.

Wasn't the minion battling also supposed to be like a minion collection/gallery? Hence the name, minion zoo?
I'm still pretty bitter that regular account holders never got to play with that poorly though-out and implemented feature, but if these changes happen the way they are being explained, it sounds like it's something minion collections could actually use. :/
AND BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE.
...Seriously, the economy tanked last night. Restocking? Useless. Vending? Useless. Selling items from quests/games? Useless. I expect my daily sP income to drop dramatically now. Instead of maybe 10 million, about half that, and that is only from quests and games.
And now I can't do my science experiment that was supposed to happen next month!
Also, I've read that people are saying the code is old and needs to be upgraded as well. I wouldn't doubt it. And I'm not moving crap until I can autoprice in the new shop and it is available to see when doing a shop search. So, when it goes live. Otherwise, even if you implement the idea of moving items into the new shops, but you don't see them when you quest, what is the point?
And I got rid of a massive amount of crap yesterday because the prices were dropped at least 10x their original. I still have over 1k of items in my shop, all unique.
And I feel like having a a gallery now is also useless. Why bother? Even though I only put unique items in, it's not like anyone really browses other people's galleries, is it?

I'm really curious what and the rest of the staff think the normal player should do on Subeta from day to day...
Obviously not play since half of the money I make is selling and there is so much lag... And error pages. FFS! How could they not foresee this happening is beyond me given the timeline they did.

I don't have a GA at the moment. Are they saying anything on the GA boards?
You shouldn't need a GA to at least read through the posts: Beta Testing - New User Shops
But no, I haven't seen them mention anything about it there either. That thread is more for feedback about how the new features are working and bug fixing.
I posted what I though and my questions on the main thread that the staff made, and after reading all the comments here, both pro and con,I can only say that I HATE it,a lot : /
They are interconnected. Maybe not functionally but they exist on the same site. The same staff has to contend with fixing, updating, or removing for each feature. I didn't say it's always a matter of them getting to a point were they can't continue without fixing something else. I said that is sometimes the case. I think this situation falls mostly into the second category I mentioned:
They've been working around the broken code in the shops for a long time and we all know that large shops are game-breaking in certain aspects (e.g. the auto-pricer won't work on them). I'll take them at their word that it is game-breaking on the back-end too. They just need to find a middle ground, between what would be best code-wise (insanely constricted) and what users want (unlimited). I don't see how they can leave this feature half-finished since so many other features depend on it. Mind, finished by their definition and finished by the definition of the user base may be two different things... Probably is actually. Function versus form and all that... I'm holding out hope that they can find that middle ground, fix it, finish it, and finally - after all this time - have it off their list so they can focus on those other projects again.
I've been here a long time. I've seen Subeta change, I've seen it improve, I've seen the staff make mistakes. I've learned to not get too invested anything staying the same. I've had to deal with the disappointment of seeing some of my favorite features removed. (In particular the "You has this item" on WL... Yes, I understand how it caused a problem... No, I'm not demanding that you bring it back... Just don't ask me to ever really trust you again, Subeta. -pulls a face and looks away dismissively-) This change to the shops and galleries may affect how I play, if I am willing to pay and/or how much, but I'm probably not going to freak out and abandon ship over this. (Not promising I won't freak out at all because there is no way I'm going to be a-okay without a significant increase to those item limits.) I'm more worried about how many other people it will drive away because even if I'm not as emotionally invested as I was, I'm still fond of Subeta and don't want to see it crash-and-burn.

faq
The reason we're doing something about it now is we believe the user shops have been causing huge bottlenecks in our database, and are a major reason for the 502s and 504s of late.
Item limits?? We've been warning these were coming for years, and they're finally here. But, as mentioned in the news post, we anticipate these initial limits will be raised quite a bit before we settle on final numbers. And even after they're "final" there's always the chance they could be raised again in the future.
Why aren't you fixing any bugs until the 13th? Vacation!! Well, really it's more of a staycation. My mom's coming to visit and mommy time is important when you live 2,000 miles apart!
How do I get to the new shops? Glad you asked! You can start making your own shops here, and the new shop search is located here. The new shop search will include results from both the new and legacy shops (until the old shops are disabled), so if you want to be sure you're getting the best prices, you should use it!
Is beta testing safe? Will I lose my items? All of the basic functions have been fully tested by staff members, and all of your items should be perfectly safe. That said, if anything goes wrong, please post here to tell me what went wrong, and file a ticket. Everything is being logged and a UA will be able to help you.
If I'm reporting a bug, what information should I include?
Will there be a way to move all of my items from an old gallery to a new one? We're talking about this behind the scenes, trying to come up with a solution, but right now there is no easy solution for it. For example, how to transfer an old shop to a new one that is bigger than the new item limits. Or simply how to move the items without killing the database.
We agree that it's a very important issue, and we will come up with a solution that we hope fits everyone's needs. In the meantime, access to your items in old shops and galleries will never go away, even after the shops themselves are disabled.
known bugs
fixed bugs
unfinished features (will be complete before full release!)
Edit : Sorry about the constant changing, noticing errors in my not-so-good forum quoting. XD So fixing them when I spot them.
You can't find that topic if you aren't GA since it's in the GA forums though :o Thanks for the link!
If nothing else, it'll be really curious to see how this effects the economy. Obviously it's going to really hurt anyone who vends, unless they're primary motivation for vending is collection items/intent to frag, as well as anyone who quests. I really hope the items that're under the rare rarity (I can't be bothered to look at what those are in name or number) will start stocking in mass almost 24/7 otherwise quests are probably going to be nearly impossible to complete. I suppose quests could just start asking for one item, too, but then we have that issue of too little going out too much sP coming in.
Fragging is going to take a nose dive, too, as many items are going to go that way but then you'll have some people with a ton of crystals sitting there... so the items stocking there will deflate, and you can't raise the cost because it'll only further support those who hoarded/hurt those who didn't. Hopefully that's being taken into consideration. Same story goes for the RB.
It'll also be curious to see how long it'll take for vaults to become the next big issue. Mine's at just 14 pages (it's going to be a lot worse when I get to my galleries) and it takes about 15 seconds to load a page of it. That's going to be fun to try and sort into categories. I can hardly contain my excitement.
I also really don't like the massive difference from non-ga/ga users. 250/500 is above and beyond "perks". I mean I get that the selling point of a GA used to be those pet slots, and after that went away there's really little incentive to buy one-- but I don't think this is the way to go about it. It should be much closer (375-400/500), and instead offer autopricing EACH shop once a day.
On the plus side, this would be a golden opportunity for staff to create other collections for items (that they probably won't take... but hey, stranger things have probably happened). Bring back Minion Zoo's as a place to keep them (scrap the battling nonsense, or at the very least bring that into play later down the line when time/programmers permit). Add some achievements, allow people to add/remove at their leisure, maybe add a highscore list. I would love to see that happen, I really would.
Make pet's hungrier, faster, too. That'll help people with "foods to be fed to pets" galleries clean those up faster.
Make Toys function like food... allows pet's to play with them and treat them like food's currently work. Achievements and high score lists and all that good stuff... that'll give an outlet to those items that currently only serve three functions (make pets happy, TCs, galleries), or four if they're wearable too.
STOP PROMOTING HOARDING. STOP IT. Stop creating achievements/re-purposing old items without re-introducing them to the system. It supports hoarding (because you never know, and if it happens you won't be able to get the item for a year+), and it really only helps the few people paying attention when the change goes live-- who typically buy them all up and jack up the prices. If an item is going to serve a new function then always release more somehow. Always.
Frag more things. Have RB ask for things not based on price but how many are on the site. Get those items outta here.
Turn flowers/burnables into a currency like the candy hearts. At the end of the year you can give all leftover flowers to Esther for 1 coin per 1 flower. INstead of randomly burned items have the reign bless you with a trinket and then we turn those trinkets into a shop and we can buy what we want. Gets rid of the influx of burned items no one really wants/needs, the extras they don't want/need, and the currency goes into a bank (either directly or sold by other users).
Or if that's too much work just have the RB accept ALL reign items, ToT items, flowers, etc, for 48 hours after an event has ended. Right now that stuff is fraggable, but so is a lot of other stuff. There's more of an incentive to give them to the RB, and it wouldn't require people to hold onto them (hoard) for the off chance he asks for the items.
Just a few ideas, I'm sure people could come up with more if staff are actually listening and willing. I feel like one of the biggest issues now will be places to put stuff. Subeta shouldn't waste the opportunity.
some of the responses to this change are so dramatic

i don't really have anything new to say tbh. i realize the limit will eventually be raised, but i'm also a bit apprehensive just because there's a long history of staff finding out about roadblocks after the fact (which i also understand but its still frustrating). i'm cautiously optimistic about this! hopefully if there's less of a strain on the servers maybe other things can eventually get fixed (like inputting hex codes in the salon, to name one feature i actually used)
I think some of Andrea's ideas would serve a real purpose!
I've been thinking about fragging. We'll be able to get rid of thousands of items off the site this way but the crystal shop mostly stocks collectable items. This is fine for people who want the items for pet treasure chests but not many people are going to buy them for galleries because of new limit that's being imposed.
The way things have been going for the past several months couldn't be maintained, something had to give.
I don't think this is the solution however and I do agree: 's suggestions are pretty awesome, especially the one of a user treasure chest like pet treasures.
... And the point on encouraging hoarding. Hoarding just has to stop, be it galleries, shops or wardrobes.

I love lots of these ideas! We've been brainstorming and have a few things up our sleeves already, but these are all great suggestions I'm going to add to my list. We've been toying around with some things! I'm going to see if we can make pets hungry faster, I know that may interfere with battling and such so I want to investigate that a bit before we just pull the plug, but that's definitely on the list!
@blackwolf_2009 Thanks for posting the FAQ. :3
There goes my hope that this change may not be coming, because of the huge resistance... It's coming, no matter what, eh?! F*** all users, yes? Thanks for that. That's it then? Nine years for nothing. This is the worst decision you ever made! I'm quitting then. Neopets all over again. -_- I can't believe I spent real money on this site...really pissed off user here, but yeah...you don't really care! >:(
