yeah same, before this/my Harry Potter pseudo-cult I would only stick to the claim above holiday/event threads. We can also make the lists of people to kiss/dance with/etc (pseudo cult also does this). It's really nice to have people to chat with during the events.

Usually with events, I just select a "claim the above" board, set up a timer, and just zone out while doing my normal subeta things. It's always been pretty impersonal. I keep seeing the same people around the boards, and it always makes me a little sad that we don't connect more. I still mostly relied on the claim boards during Survival, but it's nice to still be part of something a bit more social at the same time.

I'm a non-starter for mini-modding, since I'm not in the US, but even if I were, I'm not nearly active in any of the forums to be able to claim to know how to manage them.

I just didn't really know anyone on 'beta. And I am obnoxiously shy online/irl. I just fake it better in person.

Also, two hard ciders and buffalo wild wings before bed last night was an AWFUL idea. I feel like shit, pardon my language. Then again, my body can't really process much fat, so I'm just gonna look green.

I think a lot of people on here are shy or just don't want to interact. I was the same way on Neopets too. It's a big reason why I don't play MMOs and my biggest issue with Pokemon. It's pretty irritating that they tell you to catch them all and then make it so you can only complete a dex by trading. I guess you could buy two Gameboys and both games but that's a lot of money.

hmmm that makes a lot of sense. Of course there's a lot of people here who are also super ougoing online, but they all seem to jump into the community really quickly.

Yeah. Some Pokemon are only available in certain versions of the game. Like in White you can get Rufflet and in Black you can get Vullaby. If you want the other one you have to find someone to trade for it. Sometimes the games will have an NPC that will trade you for an version exclusive Pokemon but you can't rename Pokemon you got in a trade. Some Pokemon only evolve if you trade them. Haunter evolves into Gengar by trading.

I feel you. Somewhere, I have an unfinished game of Blue that I refuse to save over because I have 148 Pokémon registered. Turns out that between Blue and Yellow (which my sister had), there's one Pokémon you can't get, and I certainly wasn't about to start asking around. I live in hope that one day I'll find someone with a version of Red and a GameLink cable who is willing to give me an Electabuzz.

Thankfully, these days I have boyfriend who's into Pokémon, so we both get complimentary games, but I feel like they're steadily increasing the numbers of features in which it's beneficial to interact with large numbers of users, but also don't support features like GTS long term, so the game becomes less playable as time goes on.

Sounds like a good plan. If the contest(s) aren't needing constant supervision, I would be able to check on and do stuff with it multiple times through-out the day. Hopefully we can figure out something soon, I think trying to make this group an active, friendly atmosphere sounds fun!

As a completionist that's pretty irritating. Lucky that you've got someone near you trade with now but those last few would be hard for me to deal with. I think it's fine if they want to encourage players to interact but I don't think it should be something necessary to complete the game. The whole point of the game is to go on an adventure and collect them all.

I luckily have an SO who likes Pokemon too, so we complete our dexes that way.

No kidding! It's only the past 8 months or so that my body has started not processing much fat in foods, and so too much makes me pretty miserable. On the upside, I'll probably be healthier and live longer overall, so -shrug-.

I have such a poor memory, that I don't remember what my ideas were, however!

It is annoying, and I think they are overlooking a lot of their older game players who aren't going to be open about being big fans of what is generally seen as a children's game. However, on some level, I'd rather lose out on completing my Pokédex because I can't meet other people, rather than they made all Pokémon possible to get in a single game, but made some of them super difficult and grindy to get, like that Feebas nonsense in gen 3 and 4.

Well they don't have to be super difficult or grindy. I just wish it was possible.
