- I stopped being a part of a lot of different ping groups because I got sick of these constant reminders and having to go through and clear up my events section. The banner at the top of the page kind of feels like that. I don't want to have to keep closing it all the time. It's irritating. It's like you close it and know it'll be back at any moment for you to have to close again. If it has to stay can we have an option to toggle it off? It is such a massive site wide banner that is advertising such a small part of the site - it seems so strange for it to have such a prominent place where it is (aside of course for the money making - I am not ignoring that aspect).
Edit: I just want to say that I do like Subeta (I spend a lot of time here) and do want it to do well so I do understand the motivation behind the banner. I just also feel that one of Subeta's strong points is how customisable the site is for it's users (widgets, notepad, bookmarks, profiles, custom CSS) and would hate for that to go.
I love the banner popup for every new item. I purchase hustler items often so it's nice to know when a new item is stocked.
I get, however, that others don't use the feature, so a simple off/on toggle would be an easy solution. I don't think it should be removed entirely or posted elsewhere. The banner is simple enough to get rid of.
While it IS easy enough to x out of, so are popup ads and that doesn't make them any less annoying.
I can't remember the last time a pop up ad actually worked and got me to purchase the item/service being annoyingly advertised. I'm going to go out on a limb, and guess that these annoying ass banners will have the same results.
Hence the toggle on/off suggestion. Fortunately, the X feature works immediately as opposed to event pings that have a habit of reappearing when you open a new page. One and done. And the solution to the ad issue is using a GA (or ad block add-ons) so adding a toggle feature to the preference page doesn't seem out of the ordinary to me.
I prefer the banner over the hustler ping group (who have been extremely helpful, not taking away from them!). New restocks have been overlooked and I've missed some good items in the past.
I have a slight issue with the ad but it's all on my end/fault. The flash sale ad basically covers the drop down bar.
I removed the top banner and postcards ages ago because I hated having to scroll down all the time when I had a small screen. When the css on the ad was fixed I had to quickly close it because I was in the middle of needing the links. Didn't even register what it was.

I have the same problem. Hustler's banner gets in the way because I removed the top banner, meaning that the pop-up overlays the menus.
Anyway, I've just tried getting rid of Hustler with Adblock's Element Hiding Helper (it's a separate addon that works alongside ABP, if anyone else wants to try that option), and it seems to be working. Haven't seen anything else vanish with it, and I can use the menus just fine. :)
Edit: Adblocking might not be the best way to go. I still haven't seen any huge issues with it, but sometimes it doesn't catch the banner. I had it show up again when I logged on. See 's CSS at the bottom of this page for a more reliable fix.
I'd still like to see an official solution to this though. I liked checking CSC Hustler once in a while to see what he's got, but this intrusive ad has turned me right off. -_-
Personally, I like the dropdown notification thing when there's a new item. It's not that often, and if I don't want it just close and carry on.
However, like it's been said, this idea might be more well-received if there was a way to opt out (and later opt-in if the user wanted to).
Does anyone has custom CSS to block this?
you want me to spend CSC on the site, Subeta?
P E T S L O T S.
I would spend the equivalent to 8 hustler purchases in one shot.
Stop harassing me with the Hustler and get onto what the userbase want : infinite ice cream and pet slots.
Not a fan of this feature. I support the suggestion for a on/off toggle. It's unpleasant to be shown a giant ad for a real-money item as soon as you access the site and on every page thereafter until you X it out.
yeah i would like it to stop please. in general i don't care and am not going to buy from him. and also when i'm on my ipad it blocks the toggle between dashboard and events on my sidebar, AND the x and the buy button are on top of each other so i don't want to risk clicking the x. def need an opt out option

I hate having to resort to custom CSS for things like this when there are better solutions. :|

I cant close the hustler on my phone, so that pretty much makes it subeta unusable. :/
I'm going to agree with everyone else. I'd really like a toggle feature. I'm not going to be spending real money, and I get tired of always closing out on the Hustler. Or maybe, the banner disappears after we've navigated a page or two without clicking on it?
Its too big. It interferes with playing the site. It blocks access to the menu.
I came on site today to see items in the Token Shop, items that tend to move fast. I really needed to do an account search to check if I already had an item, and I couldn't do it because the damned ad blocked the input box for the AS.
I'm one of those for whom the X is nearly on top of the BUY button and that really, really sucks. It means part of the data you're getting from me is point blank wrong. I would delete it as soon as it showed up if only I could.
One of the main reasons I buy a GA regularly is to AVOID ADS. This is an AD I CANNOT AVOID. No longer any point in buying GAs cause I'm going to have to do something else to avoid ads.
If you believe the problem about people NOT buying the hustler's stuff is that they don't know about it, then make a concerted effort to advertise the ping group! Then people who want the information - and therefore are more likely to act on it - get the info they need and the rest of us can play in peace.

while we're on the topic about ping groups people don't know about, can joining siteupdate be mandatory? like make everyone automatically join it. it's sorta important that people know what updates happen, and there are always people asking when did this happen.
I have not had the hustler target me again today. I am sorta curious why it didn't happen.
there are only a few items I ever buy from the hustler (all of them are books) and even then, I don't always buy the ones I need.
since this offer (or anything else csc-related) doesn't interest me, I resorted to ahve element hiding helper remove it for good. It had become rather annoying and I do not have any csc anyways
The Buy button doesn't go to the Hustler ? It goes to http://subeta.net/inventory.php?act=hustler but, really, it's any page, it just adds ?act=hustler at the end of it. Bug ? I wasn't going to buy the hair, I have it but I thought hey I'd check the button to see what it did. And well... did that.
collecting I hate it. It's spammy, it messes with my customCSS, blocks the entire top menu even after it's been closed, and is a horrid colour. The X button hovering directly over the buy button is irritating, although I'm glad it's not an auto-purchase button anymore. These effects are even worse when I'm using my iPad. Finally, I'm not going to buy from him unless the research notes are put in there, which won't happen. Please remove it.
