I agree with sharks! Really combining them with other sea creatures, like eels, or maybe the odder shark species like frilled sharks? Or hey, a nudibranch pet could be super cute, although I know we have a lot of sea slug based minions as is. But definitely mantis pets too, or like a mantidfly! ... and boars, oh lordy a massive boar.

Years ago I remember suggesting a pig/boar pet of some kind...I'd still love to see that! A mantis pet would also be really cool.

cough I know this would prolly be rather hard to keep up with... but what about a seasonal species? Like one that has a aspect or something on it that changes depending the season it is or holiday, perhaps just season so there's only four versions to rotate. I'm sure you've seen turtles or other animals interpreted with some sort of plant life on them. Common Experiment , for example, has that bit of tree on it. What if that bit of tree grew and changed seasonally? I've seen turtles with bonsai tree like stuff on their back, could do something of a sort with a tree that changes leaves during curtain months. Falling leaves, Snow covered, Flower Sprouting, Regular ect... Wishful thinking but if a pet were to have some sort of changed based on season it would bring a new look to pets and it doesn't have to be all pets re-imaged with this feature of course... just the one pet with the tree or something on it that changes.

Pretty much, like the deerling on Pokemon but I wasn't thinking a deer at all, at least. lol, wasn't even recalling the pokemon deerling till well after XD And I'm not meaning every species be able to do this, just one new species with this feature and it tie in with the new palce that has been revealed. Shengui Guo would be the reason this pet species was discovered and that there's something odd about it. It seems to change with the seasons but there's no explanation for what's happening. OH MY GOSH, a Chameleon species! Maybe? A whole thing of everyone knows a chameleon changes it's colors depending what it's around everything BUT no one has ever heard of a chameleon changing the way the ones from Shengui Guo do.

But yeah I totally can see how it would be A LOT of work for one person to do! It would require a lot of time and probably not be to fair... I have so many ideas to go off this, the main thing would still be time >.< cause what if the season changed on the pet in stages like the infections HAs got during events and it changed from one season to another slowly throughout the month going into a new season. Too much work >.<

Maybe you can start with a day/night pet? do it like a trial and see if it's too much work for the artists.. if yes so let the users choose which version they like most or dived to 2 different pets.. we already have Mori and Nori.. it can be their own little creature :)

I'm throwing my vote in for a boar or mammoth species- gimmie tusked, fuzzy critters! (but don't pull a mamoswine and give it a flat face please that's just so awful and clashing)

Animals I'd personally like to see pets based off of: Jumping spider Nurse shark more birds in general, particularly corvids, parrots, doves, and the "ohgodwhy" category of ducks more realistic-looking rabbit/hare more realistic-looking bee/wasp pangolin/armadillo goats. why is there not a goat feathery raptors cephalopods. I urgently need horrortenders and cuttlefish in my life

Since we already have multiple ursines, ungulates, insects, canines, felines, and more... I don't feel having a few more similar pets floating around for those that there's only like 1 or 2 of is going to hurt anything (barring the staff themselves going nope we already think there are too many, I guess, lol).

Also I'm aware some of the following are technically possible either through an overlay or because there's some existing animals that vaguely resemble the concept, but I don't feel it's the same or accomplishes the same?

First off, echoing/seconding/clapping eagerly for the people who already suggested sharks. I desperately want an actual selachian pet on this site. Like, it doesn't even have to be a realistic one, but st that you can look at and go YEAH SHARK would be super nice, and that isn't the weird lobster-clawed experiment.

Other than that:

• TAPIRS OR TAPIR-LIKE CREATURES PLEASE?

• Prehestoric critters, if not more dinosaurs. Totally would love to see something resembling the armoured fishies like Dunkleosteus or the more well-known Coelacanth, one of the Icthyosauria, or one of the Therocephalia (my fav being Pristerognathus).

Keeping in line with this idea of prehistoric critters... What would be cool here, since there's literally SO MANY different kinds available to choose from, would be to make the different colours be a different type, so one is a fish, one is more reptile or mammal, etc. Also, also, this could be a perf place to give us a shark-like pet (Megalodon anyone???)

• Corvids of some sort. The existing bird pets aren't quite there, and while we've got the beginnings of some nice crow and raven items (and a few other similar corvids), there's just not very many! Very lacking. :'C

• More pets with their roots in mythological or cryptid creatures. I keep jonesing for a re-interpretation of like... shishi, baku, cockatrice/basilisk, hydra (could even reference something more obscure than the greek version, like this one), for some examples.

Personally, I'm making do for now, of course. But! Actual representions/re-interpretations would be so much nicer!

If not entire new species, then more one-off experiments (with maybe sketch and chibi tossed on for some smaller variation)?

Ichthyosaur and dunkleosteus pets, yes this is a wonderful idea. Mythological pets would be great, too. Besides baku, I'd be interested in pets based off of Raiju, (mythical) Salamanders, and Makara. A kirin pet would be neat too, but Neela kinda sorta has that covered already.

It also occurs to me that there are enough Weird Lookin' Sea Slugs in the world that we could feasibly create a subeta-like site based on nothing but that.

Elephant, bitchin' deer (maybe an elk...?), hyena, kitsune/multi-tail fox (sorry, the Jollin is a fennec fox and I've never been fond of its basic poses), platypus, pig (or tapir) seal, non-derpy rabbit and penguin, more birds in general (in particular a swan and crow), armadillo, snails, koala, skunk, seahorse/sea dragon, and overall more draconic pets.

and like someone posted, the parasaurolophus! Oh my god that's been one of my favorite dinosaurs since I was 4 ;-;

also IMO "just get an overlay" isn't a good reason to not have another pet species more often than not. You can easily say that about certain pet colors (blacklight and harvest come to mind), and they exist.

To be honest I kinda like the idea of a shark pet, even though the experiment was mentioned earlier. I mean we have an owl-based experiment but still got an owl-based pet too, so I don't think it would necessarily be too redundant? And the experiment doesn't really do it for me. >_>

Wouldn't mind more types of birds either (I mean I love birds), but yeah. A shark-based pet would make for decent contrast with both the Tutani and Torrent. Which could be interesting.

Some sort of tapir/baku/mammoth mix would be pretty cool >D

We definitely need a pig/boar pet! Other than that, I'd love a hyena pet, and I'm seconding the shark and elephant requests.

Can u IMAGINE the chibi version of a hypothetical boar or bushpig pet...with the cute lil stripey baby colours!!! Tasmanian devil or thylacine would be awesome, and I neeeeeed more extinct megafauna (like say... a majestic big deer type.... like megaloceros.... just sayin) and non-theropod dinosaurs also, like the parasaurolophus omfg i would piss myself (or: if we need more theropods, pls get on the protofeather hype train) ALSO rah mentioned centaurs, i would love a centaur like the guild wars type, with the horse-human mashup face:
