The neela almost had huge antlers (see above!) and was much more elk than ibex, but logistically I found it very difficult to work with perspective-wise, and fitting it in the canvas in interesting poses without making it super tiny. I tried going the elk route with the hydrus one! It's unlikely we'll do another deer pet, there are so many different species we want to do before returning to an ungulate.
Really don't want to do anything more humanoid than the harvester/warador - I just really hate the idea of owning people-types as a pet? I think something centaurish could be fun, but with the top half being very animalistic, or something like the andalites from that book series Animorphs c:
- we are super lacking in monkeys and apes! I'd love a big beast of a gorilla.
Elephants, yes. I still like this as a species idea :D
There was an interesting documentary of the making of Bambi, where they talked about how they had to have models made of the deer's antlers to be able to work with drawing the perspective correctly! I really understood why when sketching out some of my neela concepts.
I could maybe see about an elk-experiment in the future, so at least there was SOME sort of badass antler representation :)
- Like the pokemon deerling? Would every single recolour be seasonal too? Because that is basically like drawing 4 new entire pets! What something like that would take is a dedicated artist with a lot of time on their hands! Something a little simpler like pattern changes on the serpenth was considered once, but even with that artist being /very/ fast and dedicated, it ended up being too big a project for what wasn't essentially a big payoff. We already have seasonal colours, so I think we'll stick to just working with those :)
I like the idea of a /feature/ that changed with every recolour, though.
