I mean, I already loved this revamp but wow your edit is ace. Now can you do one to make Gollum's eyes a little less devil-childy so I can use that?

While I love the hair and outfit, as a whole I don't like the revamp. Her right arm (our left) seems too short and is bent at a strange angle like it's broken, and her neck looks as thick as her head, which makes it almost look like it's not attached to her neck.

But her face really freaks me out, in the way Cinthia's face freaks me out. I think it's mostly her eyebrows. If you cover the lower half of her face her eyes look scared or sad. It's unnerving.

I never meant to be insulting. Let me explain it again and please, don't take it as an insult. I am not a native english speaker, so maybe I didn't find the right words! :) I just did a quick "correction" and yes, to MY liking, as I stated above. What I meant with proportions: I just thougt that her arms look too big/chubby in relation to her waist, so for me there are 2 options: make her body bigger or her arms and face a little thinner. the second choice is a bit faster to do. It is not that I don't like chubby characters, as I am a little chubby myself :3 It is not about being anatomically correct it is more the fat ratio/composition...(?) Now you know what I meant with a bad explanation ;-;" I made the eyes bigger and nose thinner because her face looked a bit scary to me. This could be a little mean, but this is just my opinion and how I see her face. Maybe I am just weird... There are a lot of people who like shinwas new art and that is ok with me, but maybe there are some people who like her like this more, so I thought I would share it. Not as an perfect example and not as an insult to the artist, because he/she made a really nice character!

Thanks :)

I see what you mean, but talking about a technical aspect, then jumping straight to your personal preferences can be very confusing. If you want to be objective, fine, if you want to be subjective, that's fine too, but keep them separate from each other to avoid confusion or inadvertently insulting someone. Saying her proportions are off, then saying you 'corrected' her arms to be skinny makes it sound like you're saying her body type is wrong, rather than the way it was drawn was wrong. The reason I didn't correct the distribution of weight in my own comments is, as people above me have said, they have thicker arms with a thinner waist, it's not uncommon, however the way the weight has been drawn is a bit off.

If something is a lot bigger than the other, then it is disproportional. It doens't mean that this could be ugly, could be beautiful as well. Everything is about the own opnion and in the end, the only thing that matters, is, that you love yourself and your body, no matter what others (or what I) say ^3^

thank you very much^^ I'll keep this in mind and try to be more clear about those things! thanks for telling me this :)

If your arms are bigger than your waist, yes, you are probably disproportional, and probably not a real person... but that's not the case for Shinwa or me. (well minus the real part... Shinwa is just pixels) We both rock our adorable chubby arms.

This wasn't about opinion. This was about incorrect anatomy and proportions... Which Shinwa's arms to waist are not.

No you're fine. :3 I personally don't see an issue with her arms to waist ratio. I see more issues with her arm length and shoulder width in terms of disproportions.

tbh i was kind of hoping that a shinwa revamp would have done away with her anime bangs, so i'm a bit disappointed that the new image kept her hair as is.

The first thing I saw is the joyful expression on her face. Joy is contagious and it made me smile. As the user with the LEAST amount of artistic talent on this site I am in no position to talk about the art...but I do have to say I like it, with one teeny tiny exception. posted a shot of her with darker skin. As a blue eyed blond my skin tone is very pale so a tanned look really appeals to me.

tbh, i havnt liked most of the most of the subeta revamps, Shinwa is no exception. I dont like the new Festers, I don't like the new Tigreans, and even some of the new pets like the neela and xotl i dont like. Its not that the art is too bad (tho some of the art like Shinwa's update have weird/off proportions), tbh i just dont like the style! I much prefer the cartoon-like style of the old festers and tigreans, while the festers could of used an update, they did not need an entire redesign. They look way too "real" now, and lost so much of their color and character such as their green mohawks. Now, they just look like boring vultures now! back on topic, the cartoon/anime style is just so much cuter and adds more character to the site overall. There def is such a thing as "too much detail", the half cartoon/half real life style just doesnt work for me. but thats not to say that all of the updates look bad!

As for Shinwa, biggest thing for me is that she lost her fragile frame. While her hair looks good, if u look by the revamps ear u can see how the back of her head looks weird & that her face looks bigger then her head! Her eyes also look too high making her forehead look too small. Her eyes could also be brought out more. Also, HER NOSE. He nose & hands are too masculine, and also im not digging her exposed bottom teeth.

Things i like: her new belt & attire, also her hair but maybe a different style other than pigtails?

Overall I like the revamp, but something on her face is throwing me off?
I think it&;s her cheeks honestly, they look more like they&;re swollen than just a naturally puffy cheek to me.
Otherwise it&;s nice and I&;m really diggin&; her outfit.
MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY

I adore the changes made to her clothing, the accessories and tattoos in particular.

Her chipmunky cheeks, her completely changed jawline, her lack of cheekbones are all a change in the wrong direction for me.

I appreciate that has challenged herself to draw new body types recently and I don't inherently dislike Shinwa because she has a curvier physique (although I do notice the same anatomy issues that have been pointed out and for those reasons she does bother me). I do dislike that it seemed an appropriate time to challenge oneself on a revamp; I feel that was unnecessary.

Hear me out. It's apparent to me that Subeta is striving for diversity which is fine! Commendable, even! But why mess with existing characters who fit the "status quo?" Aren't you otherwise just redefining the status quo rather than celebrating diversity then??

I disagree, since there are still so many 'traditionally pretty' Subeta NPCs, so the status quo hasn't really changed much, if that's what you're worried about.

I think it's great that they're taking existing NPCs whom we love and revamping some of them to have more realistic and diverse body shapes (and let's be real, it's not even all of them - off the top of my head, Maleria, Saggi, and Quentin's revamps all kept their old body shapes).

But if this sets a trend, it could snowball. I know the CD thrives on positive feedback and bases their future work on the feedback of their last work. If this point isn't made, that status quo could be redefined if we aren't careful. That's all I'm saying.

I still don't think it was appropriate to mess with a well established character as Shinwa, but I appreciate wanting to use someone as popular as her so that other curvy girls could see themselves in a "main" character and not a side quest NPC like Esther. For myself, I would have preferred introducing a new "main" character for curvy girls to identify with.

I would agree with the idea of not messing with established characters but tbh, while Shinwa is a main character, her old image didn't really have much character. I mean they could have redrawn her but without the gravity defying boobs and with a less vacant expression and that would be cool but really Shinwa's lore hasn't changed. Her body was not an intimate part of her lore so I'm not sure why changing it isn't appropriate.

And I know that most people aren't a fan of the "trade every traditionally western beautiful characters" thing, but I'm not really sure who it hurts. Is redefining the status quo towards creating more diverse characters which are unique and more widely relatable a bad thing?

(Also it is hard to confer tone so I just want to clarify that this isn't meant as snippy, but more curious as to further detail on your thoughts)
