I quite like the update, and am praying we get the belt as a wearable. On that note I've quickly bought most of the shinwa wearables in case they get updated and the price jumps.

I can put up with the somewhat disproportionately beefy arms. But the swollen, almost 'allergic reaction' cheeks are rough.

It's both her cheeks, and her eyes. Her cheeks are exceedingly rounded, and because her eyes are squinting it looks like her face is swelling up, and they're swelling shut.

I think her arm holding the feather to her face should be angled lower. Way too much going on in that area. I think the strands of her bangs should be a lot thinner or lift away from her face a little bit. The way they are now give the allusion that her cheek is puffed out, but it's just the way the hair is falling. It really sucks that her face shape suffered due to those elements.

That being said the rest of the image is gorgeous - So glad those hideous anime proportions with a petite body and big ass titties are gone. Her new outfit is so tasteful and damn I want that waistband to be a wearable so badly.

Ah she's gorgeous, what a lovely revamp ;w; I think I can see where people are coming from with the neck/feather thing. The neck line make sense if you follow it through, but the feather disturbs the flow so much it might as well not -- I personally find her confident pose and the hiding behind the feather clashing as well.

What is -v- how I'd have approached it

Dropping the shoulders of her robe and widening the collar slightly, as well as reinforcing the lines of the inside of the collar and neck help them stand out a bit more, where as at the moment I find a lot of the lines jumble up together. I also moved her feather under her jaw in a stroking gesture to indicate contemplation and to not hide her face nervously. I find being able to see her chin stops the cheeks from looking 'swollen' as well, as you can see them flowing smoothly into the rest of her facial structure.

As an aside I also tried the pose and I think the fold on her akimbo arm is inverted, but that might have something to do with the angle I'm look at my own arm from. I also defined the side of her nose in shadow a bit more, so there is less of a 'puffy' look across the face, that I think is lending itself to a swollen -v- chubby appearance.

purely personal taste below the cut I think she'd have looked perfect with a slightly darker skin/hair tone, makes the white of her robe and the colours stand out brighter, and breaks up her shape more. but that's just me P=

I just really flippin' love her now. I think it turned out amazing. I do love Shalalalalaalalalala lalaa lalal alaa's edits, though. Brining out the chin + darkening really made her stand out more. But I still am so behind this revamp. I want to send all of the love to the artist.

I think the revamp is lovely, yes it's strange and kinda new, but it gives personality to Shinwa, and I like it.

and I were talking while I was at work, and we decided there was more to say. Baa is my critique-r for this because larger women aren't my normal area, which is why I didn't address this before XD thanks for the help Baa.

It seems to be almost a general consensus that her face looks more swollen than rounded or chubby. It seems to be a lack of definition that's causing that effect. For me the obvious place is around the nose, you don't get much, if any, fat deposits across the nose so the total lack of shading makes it look more like an allergic reaction causing swelling, rather than natural fat deposits. The same is true around the eye sockets, rather than there being less fat directly around the socket then more across the cheeks, the entire side of her face from her eyes to her jaw seem to balloon outwards gently and smoothly, rather than creating pockets and dips -- that should be exaggerated by her smile.

I also had a closer look at her arms, which some people are saying are too muscular, and her waist/body which doesn't seem to fit with her face. I get that the artist was trying to give her thicker arms to match with her fuller face, but the firmness of them is definitely giving the impression of muscle instead of fat. (see sketches 1,2 and 3) Fat can't be tensed up like muscle can, no matter how much you flex your muscles, or how big your muscles are, the fat will still sag under gravity. Shinwa's arms appear muscular because her forearms appear to bulge against gravity (like muscle) rather than sagging under it. The same goes for the fold in her akimbo arm, the flesh should droop over the joint, not be pushed up by it. By extension -- fat will obscure joints, it will pucker in at joints causing pronounced dimples and those wee nub like elbows, instead of the whole joint being obviously visible, Shinwa's very smooth pronounced elbows make her arms seem more muscular. (see sketch 4) Both fat and muscle of the arm will bulge out away from the body when pressed against it, but the are other effects too, the flesh across the chest will bulge out, even on fairly skinny people -- Shinwa appears to be totally missing this, you can see my ribs, but when my arms are by my sides, I still have a bulge of flesh there. You can see it nicely on this woman as her breasts are also pushed up, increasing the amount of fold and making it more obvious. The only things that obscure this are well developed pectoral muscles and a serious lack of weight.

Her face and arms indicate she's chubbier now than before her revamp, but her body appears to still belong to the anime waif she was before. Typically with decorative cinches the idea is to make the waist appear narrow and the hips wide (at least in areas that consider a narrow waist and wide hips attractive), with slim/lean people this means cinching in the clothes just above the swell of the hips/the narrowest point, where as on someone with more of a belly the cloth would be gathered higher up under the ribs, where there is minimal fat (this also varies due to other aspects of body shape). (see 6,7) Because of this anything draping from the belt should curve with the belly and hips, not lie flat on them.

{click for larger}

I've already covered the feather but generally as a rule: don't break up your lines, the sides of her face being cut off by her hair make her face undefined and hard to read, there is also a lack of weight in her hair, someone on page 1 mentioned it falls strange on her shoulders and I'd agree. There's something awkward about the hair resting on her akimbo arm, but not that bothersome on the whole, I find the other 'tail more jarring, her posture says she has her hips pushed forwards and her shoulder and head pushed back, her hair therefore should fall down past her back/shoulder, not in front of it.

But that all said I really like this revamp, her hair looks really nice, loving that ombre, and the gold strands stand out nicely. The rune tattoos are far nicer than the solid bands (and less torturous for the tattooist), and I NEED that belt XD not sure how I'll make the pink work but I need it in my collection anyway. I like her rounded face and wide nose too, I was pretty down about the Malaria update, but Shinwa looks lovely.

did it again, amazing job!

I love her. There are anatomical issues, yes. But bashing her for the "fat" is really low. Also, is she single? I've never seen a goddess, but she's the prettiest.

I do appreciate the effort to make the NPCs look more realistic and less like anime things, however I do agree that the various anatomy issues are making her a bit strange to look at. Her face/head in particular seems really off.

Taking a more careful look, new!Shinwa kind of looks like somebody's aunt who happens to work as a matchmaker. That being said, I don't dislike the revamp.

As far as face/head/body proportions are concerned, I don't understand a thing about them, so even if there's something off with them, it's really all the same to me.

Some people complained how she doesn't look like the perfect Greek goddess anymore (while some countered that this is exactly what Greek goddesses look like. Go figure shrugs ) The thing about Greek gods, though, their charm is exactly in their humanity. They're not some perfect celestial beings (who also happen to match a certain beauty standard). Greek gods have personalities and flaws that resemble that of ordinary humans. From that point of view, I appreciate Shinwa's new non-supermodel look. Clearly even for her comfy pink sofas and boredom are an unpleasant mix, and I personally can relate to that.

But also, who said she's even supposed to look like a goddess? Yes, she and Maleria are referred to as such on Subeta, but on their own planet they were ordinary, if very powerful, people. To Subeta, they're both aliens! It's the Subetans that can't understand and comprehend their nature and power. If we think of Shinwa as an alien, we could justify any tiny detail in her appearance, whether we like it or not. (Looking at you, gravity-defying old-art breasts!) It would certainly explain that large forehead.

And, in conclusion, I too cast my vote for having that belt as a wearable!
