Which is probably why I find minion battling tedious and annoying. I play too much pokemon already in my spare time.

I think if I could remake the entire system from scratch, there would still be weapons and equipment, but you'd equip them to your pet and they'd be static buffs (like in RPGs) instead of having to be used every turn. You'd instead learn abilities (spells currently) and that would be your choice every turn.

Your weapons (two?) would decide the type of damage you did, and the rest of your armor/equipment (neck/etc) would decide how much of a buff to that type of damage you got, and buffs/curses in the case of jewelry.

I think it's obviously way too far in the game to make that a reality, though :(

anyway - i posted this in the other thread but I've been working on getting rid of the page loads tonight while working on the scroll stuff :)

Congrats on hitting 4k strength!

I got 5 amulets from Quentin today... much pleased considering I got a few days with 0 lately.

Wow, 90 tier 13 pets! That screenshot posted was really interesting - and I definitely agree with the sentiment that battling has grown over the years. I think with the guides and including it in plots has piqued a lot of interest; and I have a lot of friends in my cult that seek guidance and help that are too shy to come here. I do love the battle community, even though I was an invisible member of it the past 2 years or so, it is nice to be back (and re-welcomed)!

I am so excited about the scroll library, not even going to lie. I even started training my second battle pet that has been ignored for like 2 years and reading to him in anticipation of this update. :D

For whoever was compiling data on the core (?) 1999 intel: 13 magma/earth 99 earth defense 20% heal

2000 intel: 99 earth defense, no blessing ...I think I broke it.

2001 intel: 15 magma/earth 99 earth defense 25% heal

Looking to buy this!

That's because the custom coding was basically like:

if intelligence > 1750 and intelligence <= 1999 if intelligence > 2000 and intelligence <= 2249

It wasn't accounting for int that was right on 1750 or 2000, only less than or greater than. Anyway, fixed. Try it now, ?

late to the convo but one thing i think keeps people apprehensive about diving into battling the same way most of us have are the committments required. you have to dedicate both your time (not only to learning the system but also into the training required) and lots of money to get anywhere truly satisfying in the battling world. i've had a few people asking me whether or not its worth it to get into battling, and i always tell them don't bother unless you're not that attached to your sp.

then you gotta dedicate your time to it. set a pet into autotraining, then you wait a day. do it again, wait a day. you dont really get that instant gratification that there is in say, collecting. even on a site like FR where the costs to entry for battling are significantly lower, you still have to sit there and grind grind grind away to get your dragons into the higher levels. now, for folks of a certain mindset (which is to say, us) that's all part of the journey and arguably an enjoyable part of it, but if that's the kind of thing that comes across as a chore to someone? well then there's no real way to dress it up to make it more appealing, is it?

overall, i think the meat of the problem lies in that the crowd that sites like subeta attracts vs. the crowd that finds battling/grinding/training enjoyable generally dont have a really big overlap. thus, battle communities on pet sites/dress up games tend to remain small and cliquey. obviously making battling more beginner-friendly and eliminating unnecessary barriers to entry is the way to go and i dont doubt that more people are getting into battling as a result of it, there's always gonna be a big percentage of people on here (or any similar site) who will never and could never enjoy battling.

idk, just my 2 cents

So 1750 to 1999 intel is the 20% heal/attack, and 2000 to 2249 is the 25% heal/attack. Just confirming, so I can update the weapons guide. ^^

Yeah, that's pretty much what battle communities are like across all pet sites. Even on Neo, their battle community has its own weird niche too.

I don't understand a lick of anything that goes on in the wearables forum, especially CWs, so they could easily say the same as you.

I think it boils down to what a user wants to achieve on Subeta.

Do they want to work on their pets/characters? Enter the PS? Collect wearables? Draw CWs? Train and battle? Collect plushies, beanbags, etc.? Get all of the achievements? Get highscores on all games? Restock the most items? Make over a billion sPs?

I'm all for getting new and old players into battling, but ultimately, it's their decision if they want to commit and go the distance. The guides and info are out there. Can't make the horse drink that water.

From the perspective of someone who had a top 100 pet for several months, and then had to give it back to the real owner. I think part of it is the length of time that it takes to get what is now a useful pet. Thats at least the main reason I took a 2-3 year break was because of Tiers and having worthless pets

Battling is super boring until you get to at least 1000/1000/1000/1000 stats, and that takes months, if you aren't willing to shell out for daily auto training. Also, with BQs, pets gain stats at roughly the same rate at tier 5 as they do tier 11, at about 10-12 per day, you never make any progress towards narrowing the gap between other pets. If you auto train that speeds things up a ton, but also costs a fortune in sP now. I think if you were to dramatically drop the training times and stat cost/EXP on small pets it might improve things a lot.

At tier 1, the training time per stat could essentially be 10-15 minutes, and it would have very little effect on high end battling while getting newer players up to tier 7-8 since thats when battling actually gets interesting anyways.

I think the lower end challengers could also get a stat boost. I know that at one point you could beat every single medium challenger with a malevolent grimfruit and a 10/10/10/10 pet, and I know that right now as a mid tier 5 you can get wins on Jaques and Felibot in BQs. Obviously you need to leave some challengers alone, but I think you could spread a lot of that content out more to make more interesting milestones for newer battlers to achieve. If I'm not mistaken back preAaron revamp, Mephysto was somewhat of a milestone challenger for a lot of people, and now with stat inflation over the years, hes a complete joke. Upgrading a lot of the stats on lower opponents could also let you raise the EXP/11+ win to make them more interesting for even high end battlers to fight. Right now grinding out wins on any of the smaller challengers is a complete chore since you 1-2 hit them for thousands of wins, and they never come close to breaking your heal.

[edit]

Also, the SOSS rerelease sounds scary :( I wonder if that person still wants to buy for 5bil :P

When I tried to start battling (like 6 years ago). I just took some random weapons which I had gotten from somewhere, and tried to beat willowisp. I failed, and decided that I needed more stats before I should attempt again. I never really tried again, untill I got a Malevolent Grimfruit from a luminaire giveaway. By that time I had a 500 evens pet, and I completely destroyed all easy and medium challengers. Then I was hooked :P So maybe the reason that new people don't start battling is that they just don't really know how. Now I now that you can easily beat some challengers with an untrained pet, even though I failed the first time I tried. If you don't know how, you get discouraged by your first few losses.

It never occurred to me to borrow weapons from others, I thought they'd never lend them out to me anyway, even if I asked. Now I now that's definitely not true. If I had borrowed weapons before the tiet system was implemented, I'd have had a chance to own some godlies myself. Even though I don't really own any godlies, I think I'm doing quite ok in the Battle Colliseum. Maybe if I had better weapons I'd be able to beat some opponents a couple of more times, but I'm not in a hurry, I'll get there sometime.

I think many improvements have been made to the BC in the last few years to make it more accessible for new players, and make it more interesting for people with medium size pets. There are training alerts in the training center, autotraining, a guide on how to battle in the battle colliseum and recent CS opponent releases have made the gaps that existed between opponents a lot smaller. Maybe those CS opponents need to be re-released sometime though, because if you weren't buying them in 2013, you still have quite some gaps if you start battling now.

Edit: Maybe to help new people to understand battling better, it would be nice to have some sort of tutorial. Like in games, where they use pop up balloons or narratives and arrows to point out how the user interface works. This is going to require lots of coding though, so probably not going to happen. I just thought it would be nice if you were thrown into a mock battle against buttwings with some predefined weapons and the tutorial would guide you through to get your first win.
