I came across a couple more items that are in bad taste and I think should be changed. I wasn't sure if there was still a thread around somewhere from when the "gypsy" items were changed.
It&;s a tongue in cheek reference to cartoons like Looney Tunes where the unknown owner is usually shown wielding a rolling pin or a spoon in the air when they&;re angry or want to shoo something
The "gypsy" items were changed? I still have at least one skirt in my wardrobe that has the word in its item name. (I understand if they're undergoing the process of changing the names currently, though.)
They were, but I don't think it was applied in the old wardrobe. still shows up as "Emerald Gypsy Skirt" there
Oh I see! I still use the old wardrobe because some of my items don't show up in the new one. Thanks for the clarification.
No problem c: I use it too, but I saw another post about them not having been changed in the old one.
I saw another headdress item earlier and thought the same thing. I think it was a CW? What is the first item though?
Yeah there are a few CW headdresses out there, I don't know what they are though and I'm not sure if the descriptions add to the problem at all, I'll look into those.
The first is just a rolling pin, honestly if it were just changed to "Attitude Adjuster" and the description changed, I'd be okay with it, it's the domestic abuse reference in the name + description I take issue with.
Oh... OH... Yeah that's definitely a problem >.>
[Edit] Misplaced Feather and Beads Found it in the pawn shop just now!
Ugh, I would be really happy to have the rolling pin's name and description changed. It's horrid. D:
The rolling pin is a custom item for , its been brought up quite a few times that it isn't likely to be changed.
Honestly, I really don't have a problem with it, although I understand and can see reasons why it isn't appropriate here. As for the Indian headress, I guess that does make sense to change.
I don't see why the headdress should be changed? It's not really offensive 😕 Those headdresses are traditional in MANY tribes. I mean, should we get rid of the saris? The kimonos? They are just different cultural items. Now if it were being blatantly offensive like some of the gypsy items were, then yes it would need to be changed.
Oh, jeez. I'm not sure if the headdress should be fully removed -- there are presumably Native American users. But it's probably not culturally accurate anyway, and it's not like a "Too White For This Item" filter could be installed...
Uh... Headdresses aren't offensive? They're of Native American (Indian) origin too, so why are they in bad taste?
Lots of people associate headdresses with Thanksgiving. There's nothing wrong with the item or description as far as I can tell, or am I missing something?
Is it the fact that it's considered a stereotype? If that's the case, then all Kimonos should be taken off-site as well since not every person from Japan wears a Kimono. All Lederhosen and German based clothing as well, since it's also a stereotype.
Sorry, I just believe strongly that either it's all got to be okay, or none of it is. (totally ripped that from South Park, but it's a good lesson, lol)

The way I've seen it explained is that headdresses are in a way, the Native American equivalent of the Medal of Honor. That's an American thing, if any of you don't know. It's the Military's highest honor, and most often given to soldiers that have died in the line of duty for performing great acts of valor, and is rarely given to soldiers that are alive because many don't survive the action deemed heroic.
So if you wouldn't wear a Medal of Honor in a costume or for funsies, why would you wear a feather headdress?
Note: I'm white, so I could be TOTALLY wrong on that comparison. But it was one that I saw and made sense to me.
I don't think headdresses should be removed either. They are special to native americans but I don't see how having them as items on a site detracts from that. I think if a user used them inappropriately that would be different. Simply honoring their culture is okay with me.
Ah, okay. I wasn't aware of the full context, so thanks for providing some more info.
What if someone wanted an avatar that was a war hero? Besides, they already have items like .
"Feathered war bonnets (also called warbonnets or headdresses) are worn by Plains Indian men who have earned a place of great respect in their tribe. In the past they were sometimes worn into battle, today they are worn primarily for ceremonial occasions. They are seen as items of great spiritual and political importance." Quote from Wikipedia
I still don't see why this is offense or why we shouldn't have them onsite, or why they should be changed, sorry :/

That's all well and good, but going by that logic, the wearable medals should be removed too. Maybe remove all the military items while we are at it. IT COULD BE OFFENSIVE TO ACTIVE DUTY SOLDIERS OR VETERANS OMG
But seriously, the headdress isn't offensive to me. It's not mocking the culture in any way like many of the gypsy items were. It's just a straight-forward, traditional native american headdress. Not everything is offensive.
There's more medals that just the Medal of Honor. I'm speaking specifically about the importance of that one, not just any medal. The Purple Heart is one of much less importance, because you get it if you're hurt. There's a lot of Purple Hearts out there, and not nearly as many Medal of Honors.
There's no need to get bitchy, I'm just explaining a comparison I saw on why white people wearing feather headdresses is a no no.
Are you from a Native American tribe that has feather headdresses in their culture? If not, you don't get to decide if it's offensive or not. They do. And I've seen Native Americans that don't like it.
