Seen anything, watched anything, read anything good lately?

I am reading Gone Girl. I had heard it was really good then all the movie promos started appearing for it and it really got me curious. It is pretty good so far. Still waiting for it to get enthralling though. Before this I read the newest Lee Child book. Anyone read his stuff?

I have a stack of books as tall as I am to read, but haven't gotten to them because I spend way too much time here!

I'm a total science fiction geek. Other than that I read a smattering of mystery, horror and fantasy.

Nothing I've read recently has been mind-blowing. I watch too much TV, most of it these days is cop shows - CSI, NCIS, Bones, Castle and such. I watch the horror stuff too, Walking Dead, American Horror Story, and few others. Then, of course, there's the sci fi, like Dr. Who. I haven't been thrilled by any new shows. Forever and Scorpion might have some potential.

I've been watching Z Nation even though its horrible!

I love the Walking Dead. Can't wait for it to come back on Sunday. I hope this season is more action and less talk though. The season they spent on the farm I almost gave up on it. I watched the first season of American horror but did go back to it the next year. It kind of gave me nightmares the first year! watched the first couple Scorpion but not sure IO am going to stay with it.

Other than that I don't watch any of the shows you listed. I watch The Blacklist, Scandal, Greys Anatomy. How to get away with murder is a new one that seems like it going to be pretty good. Cooking shows, even though I don't cook much anymore, project runway. I am a tv junkie, haha.

I really liked the TV show The Dresden Files, but never read the books. I should pick them up and take a look at this new series.

I was considering How to get away with murder - but isn't that the one by the same people who do Grey's Anatomy? I watched the first season of Greys, but got bored with it. I like the medical stuff, but the people stuff - relationships and so on, not so much.

I like watching cooking shows. Its one of the few "reality" type shows I like. I like stuff like Chopped (where they have to make a meal out real weird stuff) and competitions (Top Chef types).

Watched Brooklyn 99 most recently, not the best show, but entertaining enough to watch through, good laughs.

SO I finished Gone Girl this evening. It was really good. In some ways I wish I had read it before I left dickhead. In some ways it is probably good thing I didn't.

Hmm I just took a look at some info on Gone Girl. It does look like the kind of genre book I'll read when I'm not buried in some scifi novel.

It took me a while to get into it but I am glad I read it. There were some twists and turns that I didn't see coming. And that is unusual.

I think that was probably the best episode yet. The right mix of gore, salvation, bad-assedness and reunion. I spent all of last season wishing they would just get the hell back together! FINALLY. Daryl and Carol, that was better even than Rick and little ass kicker.

Oh that was a great scene! But there was always a good connection between Carol and Daryl, great chemistry between the actors. I really wonder where they're going this year.

not sure if anyone else watches but I don't want to spoil anyone That asshole, that Tyreese kills in the end, did have a point when he said a baby was like carrying around an anchor at sea without a boat. Not only is she herself at huge risk, but she puts the entire group at risk.

If they stay on the road, say head to washington with the science guy, its going to be really tough on the baby. Food may be a problem, and for an adult, that's okay, but a hungry baby is a noisy baby.

If they hole up somewhere, and try to rebuild, they are at risk from the remnants of the terminus people, and maybe the people who kidnapped Beth. Speaking of which, what are they going to do about Beth?

So many questions, so much possible speculation!

SPOILER (click to toggle) Hope I am doing this spoiler right. Haven't used them in years!

I have my doubts as to whether Tyreese actually killed that guy. Why did they spend 55 minutes telling us how he was not a killer just to have him do it in the end? We never saw it happen or saw the body afterwards. I think he was lying to Carol.

Yeah, the whole baby thing is kind of a dumb storyline under the circumstances. I guess it is supposed to give us hope for the world or something.

Beth. That was her name! Wonder if she will reappear at some point or if we are just supposed to forget about her...

SPOILER (click to toggle) Ohhhhh I haven't even considered that. But, I don't know, at the beginning he didn't even want to kill zombies and he clearly did that. But yeah, killing a human would be different. And it is curious that they didn't show the death - that show is pretty indiscriminate about showing kills, whether is zombie or human.

I'm prejudiced about babies though, I've never been one to coo over the little darlings and I generally prefer my TV shows without them. While they were in the prison they were able to keep the baby stuff to a minimum. And while everyone was separated, you could focus on groups that weren't dragging a baby along with them. But now that they are all back together and on the road, the baby (and its associated problems) are going to be much more front and center.

Beth was mentioned once during the episode, in a very vague way. But there was so much else going on that it was treated way more as an aside than a problem that needs solving. I'm looking forward to finding out what's happened to her. I'm a bit worried if maybe the 'rape gang' excuse for the terminus people going bad is foreshadowing of the Beth storyline.

Its great fun. But might be a little hard to get into at this point. They've done old season marathons in the past, and may do so again. Might want to keep an eye out for that, or download them, if you seriously want to start watching.

For me, one of the most interesting parts of the show has been the evolution of the characters. The main character Rick starts off in a coma - he is injured before the zombie apocalypse starts and then wakes up once the 'beginning' phase is over. Its an interesting perspective because he didn't get a chance to adjust to the horror as it was happening, but must deal with the results. But all the characters have had to change and adjust in order to survive and its been an interesting journey. That's why I would recommend watching it from season 1 and not starting at season 5 (the current one).

I'm probably one of the last people on earth who doesn't have netflix. I've been resisting it because I suspect if I got it I'd spend every waking hour in front of the TV. Its bad enough the amount of time I spend in front of it without that.

I don't use it as much as I probably should. I do know or have seen on sites where people don't have self control and end up watching season after season of shows non-stop. Maybe you wouldn't do that. :D
