I'm surprised that more of us haven't hit our breaking point yet!

My breaking point is "the next shower of blatant lies about everything being fine"

Worst thing is, I keep thinking that everything here has been said and repeated multiple times... by many different people, in all of the topics of this kind that have ever been made. It's just all over.

It's sad because... well, I can't guess what's going on behind the scenes, or what goes on in staff's minds (regarding to their plans for the site). It's extremely tiring to keep wondering what were the reasons and intentions behind things. Or what the context really is. All we know is what we see, sometimes it's better to take things at face value than to keep trying to find the hidden meaning. My crystal ball broke ages ago.

Andrea is right with the "what if everything magically fixes itself, I'll regret it!" reasoning. I think I just have this tendency of trying too hard when it comes to things/people/whatever I like. Might be the case with other people too, we just don't want to let it go and try harder every time instead of abandoning ship, because what if things improve? THINK OF ALL THE GOOD THAT COULD COME. Except things never improve, we find ourselves bringing up excuses for the other part when the truth is that they don't care. And if they don't, neither should you.

but the fact of the matter is that i have my limits. i clearly haven&;t reached them yet, as i play this site actively on a daily basis. i&;m not sure what those limits are, but i can promise that i and everyone else here is bound to reach a point where we throw our hands up and say "no, this is enough" and walk away for the last time. and you can hold me to this next statement: once those dedicated players start to walk away en masse, they will not be replacable. (...) i&;m critical of subeta because i desperately, desperately want to see improvements. the day that i give up and say "let it burn" is the day i&;m not coming back.

Even if the limits might be exceptionally high for some of us, this is the truth; the day we stop bothering, it might as well be too late.

I don't know if that's pride (110% agreed that pride is not a good advisor) or what it is, I don't want to take any guesses anymore. Tbh I don't even know what else staff would come here to say. I don't think they have the answers we need, but I just wish Subeta would take this 1% hope and run with it.

We are reading this board. We have not given up and we DO care. It's the weekend, our management staff tend to work weekdays, which is likely why you haven't had much staff input as of yet.

As Creative Director, I'm not sure which questions I could answer for you. But I could try?

This. It takes years to really establish oneself on a pet site, assuming you find the right one that works for you.

Maybe all the battlers could find a way to create our own battle coliseum pet site. No caps ever. :P

-snuggles- Thank goodness, you're here at least. :3 I guess the ultimate question I have is this: what is Subeta's financial state of being at the moment? good, okay, breaking even, not okay, bad, or close to knocking on death's door?

I think we're all curious, due to how many CS sales we've had this year, and pretty much the increasing emphasis on said cash shop. And yet, nothing seems to be progressing, such as that supposed site recode announced...how long ago now? Last year?

Someone had previously said it best, alas I don't remember who in particular it was, but there should be enough money going into the site that surely the issues, lag and everything else should pretty much be nonexistent.

I've been playing Subeta longer than I've been married, and I've experienced a lot of ups and downs during my stay here. I keep returning like and because I've made an investment over these years and I just keep some glimmer of hope that something may go right finally. This year is the first year I've really felt like Subeta just doesn't care. That the apathy had finally really set in for staff. I wonder how many are still in touch with what's going awry with everything...and I wonder if maybe they've adopted the cuzsubeta stance just all we the user base have.

There are a lot of features broken, but none of them piss me off to the extent that the Spotlight wins are no longer showing up on the front page. Winners have to fucking make tickets to get there Trophy because their pets are still registered as being Nominated. I have never felt this much rage towards Subeta. Pets are my passion, and this crap just makes me so angry that it's being so thoroughly ignored.

I think one of the most important question is: Why doesn't Subeta fix or revamp one project properly at time? It makes no sense to revamp one thing and then a second thing and then a third and fourth and fifth thing while the initial revamped feature number one is still far from working as it should. Examples are the Wardrobe, the Forums, and now also the Achievements.

Hng, seriously.

I wish I was a programmer, so I could offer my spare time to help. I wish there was a simple enough solution to all of this. I wish that it was honestly possible for staff to hire another programmer in general, or a short-term contracted one who's web-programming savvy to get this core data rewrite knocked out. I wish, I hope, that staff will honestly explore this option and see if it's dooable (I really don't know why it wouldn't be other than money, I know I'm not a programmer but a professional should be able to pick it up and go with relative ease),, find out how much it would cost to hire someone who can do this-- and tell us.

There's been more than a handful of people posting that they would in fact donate directly to a fundraiser for this and I know there's probably 10 people who didn't post per person who did post who'd give money, too.

I care about subeta, I care about what I have, I care about what the site should be.. what it could be. I want to see it fixed. If I was just here to watch the site burn, I wouldn't be adding my money to the fire.. and I wouldn't be posting. I'd just be enjoying what I could until it died.

NO CAPS. NO CAPS EVER. BURN THE CAPS AS A WITCH UNLESS THEY'RE CAPSLOCKS WHICH IN CASE THEY'RE FINE. ALL OTHER CAPS SHALL BE TRIED AS WITCHES AND BURNED.

I can honestly not count the amount of times I've been talking with , about how if you left staff.. I would just leave. I would give up all hope for subeta, and I would just walk away. I'm not even sure I'd bother to log in anymore, I'd probably just adopt my pets out and be done.

You've typically been a beacon of hope, despite my foul opinion on Tempest events (she gave me a storm potion yesterday or the day before.. I feel like it was your doing XD) and the Peka-Boo game ordeal. You're the only staff member (once Fletch left) that I've felt cares about the pet aspect of the site, and creating awesome items that aren't just wearables, and giving us so many aamazing new pets.

If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be here at all at this point. I'd have given up years ago. And like I'd expect, here you are. Having no control over this whatsoever, yet still posting. I hope that whenever the staff who'd deal with the matters pertaining to this board get back to work, you try to get them not to shrug this off. To get them to actually read the words, see how much people WANT the site to be fixed and grow, and really try to explore options to make this happen.

I do have one question for you, as a person who has the maximum amount of pet slots (which I assume you've filled/almost filled)-- does the pet page lag for you? Some days it's better than others, but if I'm on my phone or the site has a lot of users online it takes well over 30 seconds to a minute to load (on a very fast PC directly connected to top speed internet access). It times out a lot for Cass (she's at work or I'd ask her to post about the specifics), and for me on my phone.

.. also do you know if the cap's removal/raising has ever actually been discussed?

And ditto about Rah. In fact, all of our artists make this site great, aside from battling and pet names. If they left, I'd follow after them somehow.

- We're doing okay right now. We're not about to close up shop by any means, but we still have to make enough to pay our entire staff every month, as well as things like servers and taxes and everything else that a business costs to run. It's hard! There are a darling amount of you that are loyally putting money into the cash shop every month (or even just every now and again) and you guys are keeping us able to carry on providing content and things for the site. BUT there isn't enough to hire more programmers right now, or shut the site down for x number of weeks in order to be able to work on coding entirely without the user load. We can only continue trying to fix bugs at a constant rate, and get just as frustrated as you guys about them. I'm not kidding here - you think this doesn't drive us insane too? We're not just switching off the computers and saying TO HELL WITH IT! We are constantly talking in our staff chat area thing about the problems and how to resolve them. Some of the annoying ones like the double posting are really tricky because the programmers have to figure out how to replicate them first. We test and test and we think we fix something, we post 'this should be fixed!' and then it happens again and we pull our hair out some more and try again.

The cron, too. We try another fix for it, but then have to wait until midnight to see if it works properly, and when it doesn't we try again, and will keep trying until it's properly fixed.

- We all have multiple projects on the go all the time, because there are so many things going on during the year. The art department will be half working on one event, half working on another, but also be doing side projects and SBQ lines and pets and cash shop items and items for the token shop/BHH/blue building/quests/games - there are SO many areas of the site that people are expecting things from that we have to be working for practically all of the things all of the time! I imagine it's the same for programming. They revamp one thing, and have something else on the go at the same time. During Peka-Boo, our programmers were tied to the event project and that became more important than anything else. Right now, they are totally focused on fixing the problems and bugs cropping up to do with the forums and achievements - I believe has been working on some forum related things that he will be posting about soon. It's hard to talk about them all when you're trying to figure everything out, and when the precious time you have is going into working on things right up until your shift is over. When there is a big update to be made, he'll make it!

i certainly won't dispute that new members are coming in, but i do retain the quiet suspicion that those who end up staying are, like your mom, doing so with the help and advice of veteran players who already know all the weird, arbitrary workarounds to lingering, unaddressed problems. how discouraging and intimidating must it be to a new player to have things work in such a way that they're not even sure if it's a legitimate glitch or not, and then have no one to tell them "no ok here's what you have to do instead"

i've had to act as a guide to all the friends i've attempted to bring onto the site, but even then, all of them inevitably came to the conclusion that it just wasn't worth it.

this site's going to die if it's balancing all its hopes on keeping around an increasingly jaded group of users. so yeah, let me know when it's time for the Great Texas Cry-Off so we can all wax poetic about what could've been :/

i have yet to go on a complete financial boycott of this site, but i have to admit i feel a sense of shame every time i bust out the credit card. like i know i'm doing something wrong, encouraging bad behavior, if you will. this, for the record, is coming from someone who pays for neopets premium. if anything, that is what ought to be worth some shame. you'd think so.

and i hate to say all that, because i like subeta better than neo. i actively play both sites, and this is the one i don't feel too scared to interact on. i don't fear retribution here. i like this site and i want to continue to do so. it just seems like every time i turn around, there's a glaring, concrete example of how much of a fool i'm being for giving the site so many second chances.

what i'm curious to know is why subeta's recent schedule of revamps seems so.... frantic. from an outsider's perspective, it worryingly comes across as a desperate attempt to plug more leaks than can be managed. why doesn't staff sit down and plow through one project before picking up the next? i'm talking mainly about forums, wardrobe, and achievements here. is it because they're intertwined and cannot be fixed without beginning fixes on another system? is it, as speculation has honed in on, sheer desperation? honesty is appreciated in this answer, assuming you have it. as you said, you're in the creative department, so i hardly feel justified in extracting my pound of flesh out of you, so to speak.

and, for the record, it is greatly appreciated that, regardless of this being outside your department, you're willing to sit down and try to calm the fury. it's this kind of behavior that lets me believe you when you say you care. i hope this doesn't sound condescending, because i'm being sincere with this.

Sure, there are some items that are subpar, but the creative department of the site is not the one I'm pissed about. You're doing a very great job at this and I'm proud of you.

So...the only real answer to the issue of having enough money to hire 1-2 more programmers, including everything else that goes with the business...is for users to continue to contribute money via the cash shop.

...why can't we also add a fundraiser? To me, I don't think it would be shameful to do that sort of thing when it truly is needed.

You wouldn't even need to reward users with gifts or prizes for donating the most. The only reward we want is 1.) knowing our site isn't going anywhere and 2.) having an enjoyable Subeta experience w/o the lag, bugs, errors and/or everything breaking.

I'm more likely to tell people about Subeta or that I play on it, versus announcing to them that I still play Neopets. xD

- I just checked a few times, it took about 15-18 seconds for the pet page to load, whereas it takes about 3-6 seconds to get my inventory to load! It's never timed out for me, though. Oh gosh and look they all need feeding poor babies. I do not know about the cap's removal or raising, I'm afraid! I am not anywhere near it, myself, and I know the battle department are working on something very different and interesting right now, so I can't give you any real answer about that :(

- Hmm - well achievements were brought forward because there had been a problem with adding new ones. Keith worked on that one and we really needed achievements to work around the time of Peka-Boo, because events and achievements kind of go hand in hand, so we did ask for that one to be pushed out when it was at a point in which it was working. As is par for the course, even though it worked in testing, when applied to the site and the users on it it went a little differently! But we kind of have to just go for it a lot of the time - if we keep holding back it gets to a point where nothing is EVER released. I think my driving instructor said that to me once, 'Just take your test now, jump in the deep end!' I failed 3 times before I passed. I'm not sure what this tells you but why not throw in a nice life anecdote in the middle of my terrible explanations of things?!

I mentioned in the last post I made about how we have to constantly work on multiple things at a time - I don't think it's desperation - more that we were finally able to do these big things we'd talked about for a while, so we went ahead with it? Plus I think pushing big things like this at this time of year is better, to try and get all the bugs worked out before event season starts? And I believe they are all intertwined, the big things. All or nothing situation which has certainly ended up being quite exhausting! But we're plugging on.

Actually, we are kind of training a new programmer right now. has been studying it and is certainly dedicated enough for the job. (Petsite programming is a STRANGE business - a lot of programmers I've encountered, although excellent at their jobs, just don't really understand what we're about here? It's hard to explain. It definitely takes a bit of training and care!)

I'm at probably 75% of my breaking point. I've stopped spending any real money here. I basically just check in to see if magically things are working only to find them worse. Doing anything on here via mobile is miserably difficult and I just don't think it's worth putting another browser on my phone just to get things to work half the time. I'm just tired. A few months ago being annoyed with everything here was at least entertaining in the fact that arguing with the people who blindly think everything is fine was an amusing way to kill an hour or two. Now everyone seems to be on the same page of "Fed the Hell Up", so there's nobody left to argue with lol That alone should turn staffs heads, because normally we're a surly disagreeable bunch. We're united in our tiredness. And after that comes apathy and abandonment.

You betcha bro! Do you drink because might come down for whatever holiday is in September, and if she does we're going to have mandatory celebration fajitas and margaritas/Julio and you are more than welcome to join us and morn all the things subeta could be but probably never will be, and bitch about crazy Texas traffic.

NOTHING SAYS COMPLAINING AND MORNING LIKE MARGARITAS OKAY.

Also I totally 100% feel ya on guilt. I had some CW payments due (because I sit here frustrated with the site and begging to let us help it... and buy expensive ass things for my pet's TCs like the rocket scientist I am), and my first thought was SELL THINGS and then I couldn't access my wardrobe to find things to sell (rotf I'm not really sure what I was expecting) sooo I turned to sit on Craig's scrolls page for a solid... five minutes. Just kinda staring and frowning like, y'know I could sell some shrieks in no time flat....

It's not like the caps going anywhere, and I've lost all will to battle.. I don't even need them... but what if all the emotional outcries of frustration and longing don't fall on deaf ears and something magically happens for once and I need them..... Clearly, I've not come to my breaking point yet.

Hm, well not timing out is good (it's only timed out on my via my phone, and to be fair a lot of subeta does that) but it's sad it takes longer to load. Especially when you try to rename pets, as it reloads your pet page. I have had 502s pop up, when trying to move names around, which has given me some serious chest pain.

I wasn't sure if there would be a board about it or something, verses talking amoungst themselves. I can't say it's really an add on question to that, but if you do manage to see them pop up it would be appreciated if you could tell them it's (the cap) been brought up on this board and if they could post about if it's going to be raised it would be nice. It's been mentioned a few times on the battle chat board but it's, y'know.. ignored.

It's nice to hear that is working on programming for the site. I don't doubt that programming for a pet site is different from a lot of programming (it's different for one program, verses another) but personally I've been mostly talking about a lot of the site's core coding.

Like, someone who's well versed with coding private messaging or forums, or widgets, or automatic scripts or even the basic foundation of the website itself (the layout, etc) should be able to apply this knowledge relatively easily to one site or another. I know a lot of things are more unique to one type of webservice than another (a petsite vs. an art based site like deviant art), but on the grand scheme of things if there are parts of the site that need to be completely recoded that are more broad (layouts, forums, widgets, etc) that can be outsourced-- the userbase is more than willing to offer money via fundraising to see this happen.

I have to admit.. Two nights ago was perhaps the first time I've experienced any real crack in my unyielding optimism in regards to this site. Usually I just shrug off any terrible lag or broken quests/events/etc, BecauseSubeta, but if we were to have a week-long down time I feel like the site would basically back where it was when I first joined in terms of stability. Only now it has more features that can break. It makes me kind of sad since recently I've been more invested in my pets than I have been in a few years. I just hope if the site were to ever truly crash and burn that we'd get more notice than some of Agoge's other sites have.

I don't really have anything else to add here that hasn't already been said (also nearing 9-year anniversary because I'm emotionally/financially/habitually invested in this site) but on the Pets page loading thing: I just timed it and it takes about 20 seconds if it has new data to load, but only 5 if I've visited recently. I've honestly never had it time out as far as I can remember. Some of that miight have to do with peoples' connections or they might just be unfortunate enough to try loading it when the site is at its worst. I personally have a home business connection though I don't know how much that truly effects anything in regards to Subeta.
