Going to be yet another person agreeing that the unlimited aspects of the website should be capped. 20-30 would probably be reasonable for pets, and 5 shops and galleries should really be more than some people need. Along with making it more difficult to get slots in the first place, it would probably help the site a lot. To keep people with a lot of pets from complaining, maybe let them keep the pets they've already made and treat it as if they get rid of a pet, they lose that slot and cannot get it back.

Also, really, really happy to see the staff getting the bugs fixed. I just refereed 3-4 people to the site when it was unfortunately even more broken than I thought it was to try to not only get my interest in it back, but bring new friends and people who like this kind of thing. Needless to say a lot of us weren't happy about wardrobes being such a mess, and think it should probably be priority after the other bug fixes because it's such a huge feature to the site.

Would also really like to see more pet interaction because as others in the thread stated, the site really is more like Gaia now with a vaguely pet aspect.

Just to be clear-- you are trying to update the site in parts to get it out of 2008 and up to 2014? Since you can't easily redo the whole thing at once without losing progress. I'm just curious if it's possible in increments and the site is in fact being pushed to more updated code & such. If it is, maybe sometime in the eventual future pets can have more features added. (Also super happy to see ANYTHING about cults, it's been what-- 2-3 years since they were properly mentioned in news? Guilds were my favorite part of neopets, and working well-made cults would be such a wonderful thing on this site. It would definitely help even things out. Not to mention it encourages mini-communities and a lot of people enjoy that. If the forums for cults are customizable as well as the front page layout, even better.)

Maybe when my heads clearer I might bring up a few of these as proper suggestions.

I think you might have misunderstood the pet cap statement or maybe, perhaps, I have misunderstood you.

Andrea's statements about the pet cap refers to the stat cap not a cap on how many pets you can have.

Oh yeh, I was told it was a limit on how many pets one could have x_x, my bad.

Didn't someone mention how we get pet slots every year? (loyalty box) and other stuff. I swear I saw it earlier in the thread but forgot to save it for replying to as I was on a limited schedule to be reading this thread. I'll probably be going back to search for it shortly and see if I misread something. (I was talking to Rival on skype about it, which is why she may have also misunderstood-- I could have read something wrong and assumed because slots were being mentioned that it was pets in general.)

Edited: Annnd I was. I read Andrea's post about the overlays and pet slots and got very, very confused somewhere along the way. Sorry for misunderstanding! (Although I still think having 80 pets is ridiculous, if Keith and the site can support it, alls well that ends well.)

With your loyalty box you can choose a pet slot. There are other options though, including Name Change, TC slots, Color Change for Pet, 3 Moth GA Account, Stat boost, TC Spot Increase, and one or two other choices I think.

I read Andrea's post wrong. I know about the ways to get slots, but I was pretty much just skimming earlier and since someone mentioned cutting back shops and galleries-- and then stuff about pets, I assumed and read it wrong. Apologies to everyone for misunderstanding. (And I just edited my post after going back and looking.) I'm not entirely sure how having a lot of pets per account effects the site, though. That can be another question for the programmers, I suppose?

-diessssss- omg okay yeah for the record we already have a pet slot cap and it only raises 1 a year XD I don't think we need a cap on something that's already capped, in fact in January when we got the recent 5 said he could give us another 5 in 6 months time, if he really wanted too; which I totally support, but it looks like he doesn't want too (or he forgot).

Trust me I have 40 slots/pets and I'd be mad to have to give up some and I would without a doubt leave the site immediately and never come back. I was 100% talking about the pet STAT cap, and then capping galleries and shops, since they cause a tremendous strain on the servers.

I would love to know how much if a strain having tons of pets is compared to other activities such as hoarding in shops and galleries, having a ton of acheievements, having pets with huge TCs, huge WLs, or large wardrobes

No hard feelings, these things happen. xD I just got spooked by the idea of cutting back on pet slots. Pretty sure a lot of people would leave if something like that happened. I'd definitely be among them.

That aside, I'm glad that staff is trying to communicate with the userbase more. I like knowing what's going on and what's being worked on and I can only hope that the "bugfix summary" news posts will actually stay instead of being dropped after a couple of weeks.

While we're on the topic of fixing things, any chance those pet leash expiration alerts could finally be made functional? |D They haven't worked since the feature was released, despite two separate occasions where staff has posted that they're "fixed" (right now you get an expiration notice if you click the leash link at all, and a second one when you activate one with csc, and none when it actually does expire).

I really love this feature and I would like to start using it again, especially now that we can buy custom overlays... but I never remember to re-activate it because the site doesn't tell me when it expires.

Frankly, I won't be buying another one until it's fixed, because this is frustrating. .__.; I mean I know it's just 100csc, but this IS a cash shop feature, you know? The fact that it has been broken for literally years is kind of ridiculous.

I assume having a lot of pets is more of a personal account strain than a site strain, because no one other than me accesses my pet page or my training page etc.

Kinda like how vaults doubtfully cause as much of a strain on the site as shops/galleries/wishlists where it's easily accessed/pulling in tons of information from countless sources (current shop prices for everything on the page, if you have the item or not, links to shop searches/account searches, plus it can be accessed by everyone and can be effecting the shop prices/overall prices/etc).

I'm not a programmer though, so I can only assume, but I think the only page other users can see all of my pets would be my user profile and my battle stats page? I know the latter can definitely lag but there we go again with data being pulled from all the pets how many battles against who etc etc.

Yeah, my friend was too. I think the idea we came up with was fairly decent if such a thing WERE to ever occur. (Although I doubt it now, it's fine as long as it doesn't cause problems with the site.) I am indeed also curious how heavy some parts are, I can only imagine what wardrobe does, but it's a necessary feature and being worked on. I wasn't aware that there was a pet cap in the first place, so I've learned something new. I should really get acquainted with the site again while I teach my friends how to use what I remember of it.

I've asked my question and sorted out my confusion, so I'll likely stalk this thread until I think of something else. Thank you to all of you for clearing up my confusion there, and to the staff for telling us about all the recent bug fixes, and getting some important things fixed. I really do hope to continue seeing more on the site, and following updates. It'll definitely encourage me to make a proper comeback and continue referring friends here. (And helping encourage the 3-4 I got to sign up yesterday to stay.)

Kairi just returned to subeta after a long hiatus so I've been telling her of the changes and alerted her to the possible breakage going on. ^^;

On the gallery cap, if it's for items and not on how many gallerys one can have as I mentioned would be a pain -pokes my huge food gallery and elixir/minon one- but I guess there are some ways I could work with it. at worst I throw everything in the vault and hope I don't accidentally clean out the wrong thing.

The pet one if it had not been a misunderstanding would have been harder to swallow. Many of mine are rescues, I'd hate to put them back in the pound where some had been in there for months.

and Andrea I recall Keith mentioning that too, though with UGC's going away in September and no replacement for that minus sp that I can use, if the 5-6 slots opened then I think I'd go broke XDDD ( on subeta at lest)

ROTF OMG if you click the leash a pet link you get an event that it expired. So I clicked it 25 times for a pet that's not leashed and I got 25 bunk events this needs to be fixed omg amazing

There is a pet cap, though, depending on if you use all your LBs + all purchased slots + getting access to all the freebie slots that've been given out over the years. I think the max amount of pets right now is.. 43? Which is still a relatively staggering number (and sometimes, still not enough). The pet stat cap came into play a few years ago I think, so that smaller pets could catch up to the few mega pets xD!

The shop/galleries is an entirely different problem that's been brought up by staff, as the mega shops are killing the site.

As for capping, I think that might be a good way to curb some of the issues though I hope the cap isn't too small. I was one of those hoarders going for the 40k item achievement and I had like 37k before calling it quits. I've spent the better part of the last year and a half combing through all the items and sorting them if I wanted to keep or sell. I got my gallery down to 13k so far but I have quite a few items in my vault that I need to move over once I'm completely done. So capping it at like 1000 items is a bit too low I feel like.

However I think a good solution to having a high cap (say 20k unique items maybe?) would be to charge for upgrades like Neo does. I think Neo might be a bit too pricey but charging to add X amount of more spots then increase that amount as you go would be a fantastic idea as both an sp sink and limiter. Could also be applied to vaults as well.

I would likely have more then 43 due to a plushie glitch back when those opened slots. I ended up with one over the limit.

Nice! Well technically 43 would be for being on subeta 9+ years (so soon to be 44), plus the 2 for being pet slot capped when the slots were first dropped in price (from $60 a slot to $40), but hey.. an extra slot is an extra slot right?

technically the shops/galleries are causing massive lag to the site, and I believe all of the hoarding achievements are due to be retired in the eventual future. Or there's been talk about trying to change the context of the achievement to be site wide "hoarding" verses just a gallery (which I personally find more appealing in general, as I have a lot of stuff in a lot of places XD).
