I still can't get page 2 of anything to load for me on the achievement page, but it is better than it was this morning!!!
Omg. This just made my day u I never expected it to be retroactive, now , (the girl who just reported broken signup) and others will be able to either get a token of appreciation/a little something to entice them to be (even) more active on their first anniversary ^_^
Thank you for that!
I get lag on my pet page (15+ seconds for it to load) with only 26 pets and I have great internet and nothing else offsite lags. So it isn't only and that have that problem, as pointed out.
Also, it's nice to see that a one year anniversary reward is being worked on. I do think that sticking around for the first year is loyal, because the first year is literally the hardest. If a user sticks around for a year and continues to play, it's less likely they'll leave after that point (I would think, depending on how much they played/how much time was invested/money was invested I suppose).
Okay I just got home (longest week ever god) and I'm happy to say it took 4 seconds for my pet page to load! During this time of day I'd usually be looking at 15-30 seconds so much rejoicing from me! Hopefully whatever you did did the trick, thank you ❤️!
I was legitimately surprised, and happy, when you pinged me earlier saying you pushed out something to fix this, I kinda assumed you were going to be saying something to the effect of idk what's causing this/I'ma have to redo the whole thing probably so uhh one day. Really, thank you, for both fixing it (knocking on wood, I know how temperamental ArcGIS/my work database is so just because it worked yesterday doesn't mean it's going to do anything today etc) and making me feel like pet's do matter to staff (outside of who, clearly cares).
I also am very happy to hear that 1 year loyalty bit will come with a gift now (even better is retro but omfg my one year was almost eight years ago, if it's not a petslot I won't be mad about not getting it) (if it's a LB then I want it -cough-). I feel it's a better impression of subeta than just an achievement and to know you'll get a cookie next year.
I do remember the debate in Suggestions & Ideas about long term player rewards, and a number of the older users who were objecting to the implementation of something like this felt that the rewards were too great, and the commitment of a one-year-newb so puny.
This was back in the days when any account left inactive went bye-bye: there was no Prodigal Son thingy going on then. The site works better than it did then, but still I agree with you a revisit of this is a good thing, IMO.
I just want to say I have 39 and I am still getting the lag from before.
[edit] But I am getting lag on other pages too so maybe that is it xD

Hey everyone, I am a bit late to the party, but I wanted to mention for everyone saying it that please do not forget that I too am a huge pet-focused player and I am ALWAYS willing to go to bat for pet-related features. I actually have a couple that I've pitched around and some will hopefully be in the works. But the point is, if you have a pet-related idea, PLEASE do not hesitate to bring it to me and I'll be more than happy to share it with others! I want those that play for the pets to keep coming back for the pets. I feel the frustration when the pet page won't load or when the leashes do not give a proper expiration event, TRUST ME! has worked with me in tickets before and KNOWS I will go to bat for the pet playing population xD So if you see an issue or have a great idea, please feel free to ping me or submit a ticket and ask for me - I am always willing and able to pass along ideas to make things better :D
ON THAT NOTE: My own ability to do things personally is limited, since I have about as much coding knowledge as a goldfish. But I can be quite naggy, so I'll at least nag those that CAN code to get something done ;)
I couldn't agree more. This is an absolutely brilliant post. I am glad that Subeta seems to be over its phase of "I think we're also a social networking site" at least, but the focus is still scattered and doesn't dedicate enough time or energy to excelling at any one thing. I think the worst part is that, as pet sites go, NOTHING can compete with Subeta. It has always been the best pet-related site, with beautiful art and a great battle system and the unique idea of pet treasures - and competition is dwindling even more as others close down. But Subeta has switched its focus to avatars, for all intents and purposes - and that isn't something we're the very best at. I'm pretty sure we will never outclass Gaia, simply because that is all that Gaia does. Don't get me wrong, though, our avatars are awesome. Do I use them/care about them? Not in the least. Haven't changed mine in over a year. But I find the feature really impressive and I especially enjoy seeing what my fellow users create, either CWs or cool outfits. I just wish the staff could put as much effort into pet-related features so that aspect of the site could also live up to its potential.
Speaking ofFlightRising - man, if our battling system were more incorporated to other areas of this site, I know that would be a huge draw for a lot of people. Right now, even with a fairly strong pet, I have no motivation to do any training because it doesn't improve my account any. I've beaten the battle challengers 10 times and now I have no reward for participating further, except the slim chance of another battle token. Sure, I could do Battle Quests for a handful of sp and a worthless weapon item, and use that xp to boost my stats, and maybe at some point this year there will be a battle challenger with a loot item that I want. Probably not, but maybe. The vague promise that it might be worth my time in several months does not motivate me to train my pets. It does motivate some people though - the battle forum is one of the most active and close-knit communities on the site - but for the average user there's no attraction. Battle pets are useful when you need to earn points for events (if that event even includes battling), but it requires time more than anything - someone who can grind for six hours with a weaker pet will still have more points/better prizes than a user with a pet who has 200 more stats and only has a little time to participate. If the battle system were more incorporated to daily aspects of the game, it could be such an amazing feature. I really think it's well-made and terribly under-utilized.
I can totally vouch. , and are all in our corner as far as pet-related issues are concerned (because they are also pet enthusiasts and what breaks for us affects them, too). GO FORTH AND NAG, MY CHAMPIONS. q___q
I'd really like to see something done about the achievements that encourage the unique item hoarding into shops and galleries since staff has confirmed how detrimental those collections are to the site.
This is a minor issue, but have the new forums been giving out Raffle Tickets?

I got bored a few weeks back and decided to log into Neo for the first time in forever and they had done a complete overhaul of their battling system. The animation was kind of tacky in my opinion but they had actually made battling a lot more worthwhile than it had been.
Basically, every day you could earn 15 items and 1,500NP a day from battling, and you could frequently get codestones (items used to train the neopets and thus somewhat valuable) through the battles - there was also the chance of getting really rare items that color pets and such as well. I thought it was a pretty neat. c:
To be honest I'm kinda surprised Reithsththwhatever doesn't give better prizes for BQs. I never understood why Quentin got the chance of giving mage amulets instead of him, but maybe I'm missing something? It would have been nice if he could have randomly given mage amulets between all the crap he gives. Dx At least then I could maybe be content with BQs even when he decides to be a jerk and give me weak opponents all day.
The Battle Quests give you Experience Points which is basically the same as winning Amulets / Code Stones.
@ edge
I know, I just thought I would mention it... shrug
Edit: To make myself a little clearer, the point I failed to make was that I just thought it was neat that they didn't have quests as such, you could battle whomever you wanted until you hit your limit (in their case it was items/np). I just thought some variation would be nice since pretty much everything I do on here is quests. Sorry I didn't make that clear. x_x
I'm pretty positive 90% of the users on neopets, have to use "Against the rules" means of obtaining anything there (I don't feel like I need to elaborate), so 15 items + some NP is like whoa watch out we got a bad ass.
Most items on subeta are relatively affordable or obtainable, though, and those that aren't shouldn't be given out daily considering the amount of battlers/battlers with mega!pets we have onsite. Likewise, if you do all 30 BQs a day (many many users can do all 30 with ease) that's 30 items + sP + exp + maybe a battle token. That's extraordinarily generous, especially since Maleria now asks for battle items so those freebies aren't worthless anymore.
I do agree, though, that the battle system needs some work but best I recall and (sorry for the pings, but since the topic of subeta battling came up on this board, I figured you two might have some insight to offer about this), were already planning on some means of making the system a lot better.
Namely the exp goes up with each win instead of down, and giving us the ability to literally grind past 10 wins. I don't know if that plan was unlimited grinding/only up to x wins/if the challenger literally got harder forever or if the challenger and exp got capped after x... but the ability to grind your little heart out is vastly more appealing than relying on boosting and would make things a lot more fair imo (if you can't afford boosters/ATing you're basically going to be left behind).
I think more swag in the battle shop would help a lot, too, cough.
Though overly, I'd say within the past year or two, the battle system has gotten a fair amount of attention and reworking and is in a lot better place now than it was before, and I only have two problems with it (the stat cap, obviously, and the lack of a scroll library). The challenger gaps are being filled in, god/demi-god scrolls are being made, the CS challengers gave us a lot of new weapons and many have become very dependable in battling (verses the collection weapons, yikes), and newer gods have been created and put into circulation.
I'll be honest, when I try to refer people here, I don't know how to describe Subeta.
Person I'm trying to refer: "So what is Subeta?"
me: "Subeta's a pet site...sortof. It has pets, and you can change their appearance, feed them, train them for battling, uh...make characters out of them...BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! You can dress up a human avatar, and chat with other users....collect items....um..."
other person: "So what makes it fun?"
me: "Uhh...you get to be imaginative and stuffs?"
I'd only call Subeta a petsite if there was increased emphasis on pets.
Some ideas I just thought of on the spot:

I'm so sick of revamps causing more problems than they fixed. It's like, they revamp something and things break, but instead of fixing those things they just revamp something else and break more things, continuously. This site is getting increasingly frustrating to stay active on. Stop breaking things and then moving on and breaking new things. Fix the stuff you broke in the first place. >:c
Idk it's kinda hard to judge because over the short time I spent revisiting (maybe the span of a week?) I kept getting REs giving me anywhere between 10k and 25k so I think it isn't as bad as it was maybe?
At any rate, yeah, I know the main value of BQs is the exp but mainly I was just thinking that even if you can beat all of the opponents it's because you sunk an obscene amount of SP into a pet, weapons, spells, etc and it would be nice if the rewards reflected it a little more at times. The SP I get from doing BQs (I can beat everyone but Prodigy because I lack proper weaponry) doesn't even cover a single training session for my pet and that just seems a but weird I guess? xD
I get where you're coming from though, and I don't really mind the system as it is right now I'm just so tired of quests and hoping that the cranky oaf will be kind to me - I don't know, I guess I'd just like a little control over my own progress that doesn't involve having to constantly boost because I'm only getting like 12k exp a day most of the time in spite of the fact that there's literally only one challenger I cannot beat.
On the flip side I suppose adding more higher level opponents would appease me easily enough, instead of now, when it seems to be catering to lower levels who already get many more training sessions a day than I do (which is a meager one or two...).
I don't know, maybe I'm being irrational I just feel really frustrated with the BQs today for some reason. >>;
Oh wow, yeah that definitely didn't exist back when I played xD RE's were almost always terrible (changed your pet blue/baby, stole things, made them sick, etc). But really considering how much of a pain it was to train there, 15k is an insult almost.
I feel ya @ BQs, it's a very two sided sword I guess? On one hand you could have an awesome day with 10 Prods, or you could have a horrible day with 25 easy/mediums and the best thing being maybe Saggi once. BQs will eventually be revamped, though (unless plans changed), to something more 'balanced'. Originally that prospect horrified me, but it really would be more fair.
I'd like to see that balanced, and our ability to grind for exp vs. boosting. One takes a lot of time, and the other takes a lot of sP/csc. Right now the only way to get far fast is boost and AT, which isn't really.. appealing to anyone trying to get into battling. "Oh wow all the plots have battling, I should start training and BQing! Wow 20 things I can't beat, +2 stats today.. oh I have to spend 25 csc a day for the next 6 months.. .and then.. boost.. and BQ.. and books.. and weapons.. and scrolls too? and then boost and hope for good BQs or boost and boost and or I could just not".
Don't get me wrong, it's way better than it used to be and it still has a lot of great potential, but I totally agree a few things could make it that much more inviting. Like, the ability to grind more! And maybe a walk-through for someone's very first battle or some freebies (basics that can be found in the battle shop? + a scroll) and some explanation of what they're for.
I wonder what the plan for the BQ revamp is, has any info been dropped about it? I do recall Cranberry saying that they'd like to move towards being able to grind for exp, which i think is great.
I feel you. I do hope there will be harder opponents, maybe even 1 or 2 that are past prodigy. I like that MaFa got added. Slightly fills in the gap.
Another thing they could do is, have a difficulty level (easy, medium, hard). Medium = opponent at their base stats. easy, at 90% of their base stats. And hard, @ 150% their base stat (so basically their stats after 5 wins).
This way, those that are just on the edge of taking on certain opponents (IE prodigy, for most) can do so, and those that are past certain opponents but haven't reached the next one can find a better challenge.
The difficulty level could then affect xp payout. Easy means only 25-50%XP and Hard = 100-150% exp. Medium = usual range
I mean all these numbers can be tweaked, and are here for the sake of argument/rationalization.
CLIFFS -update on BQ/exp revamps? -maybe add difficulty levels on BQs
PS im still curious if loyalty perks/buffs are going to be implemented. The cards idea is good but anticlimactic.
Yes yes yes yes yes. I'd LOVE more lore on the actual pet species, why they live with people, do they have their own little communities/packs, why some species wear hand-made items (think irion feather earrings, harvester scythes), why every keeto has a scar and, most importantly, how in the name of Shinwa did the anthro pets (like Alexander and the healer, and also every single one of the pirates) come into existence. And lore on pet colours and how those work among the pets, what made them. We have a nice background about the tempest colour, for example.
:'| Seriously. I occasionally see people bickering when someone makes their pet into a human character instead of working with the Subeta pet it actually is, but we literally have nothing to work with in terms of canon pet lore.
Not sure if PvP would even be possible at this point, though. I think it was dropped because it was too hard to incorporate and was too buggy, or something along those lines.
Also, I agree completely - BQs really need a facelift.
Yeah, I thought I had gotten super lucky or something but nope haha. I always just zapped my 'battle' pet so it was all kinds of messed up. xD
I've been having a lot of bad days lately and I think that's what irks me so much. I buy the GA for two things, BQs and the autopricers and when the former screws me over on a regular basis I start to question why I even bother. @
I think autotraining is hit or miss, I know I would have killed for it back when I starter but I don't know if other people are as lazy as me. Dx
I'm glad to hear their will hopefully be improvements to look forwards too, though. I'd be interested to see what they come up with.
To be honest I always wondered if it was possible to have the quests 'scale' to the battle pet you can select for the side bar. Maybe that's more complicated than I would think but I don't know anything about so things, so!
That's kinda what Neo has done. I was going to screencap and show you but apparently I can't because my pet is hungry. Boo.
Which reminds me, didn't there use to be a page somewhere where you could like... Pick extra abilities for your pet? I vaguely remember picking something ice/water based but I can't remember and it was literally years ago so I assume it was scrapped...
