Kia ora Xing^^ I hope your week has been good thus far
I'm glad you ask of the feasting aspect! haha! We cook in the earth^^ It is called Hāngī everything is slow cooked earth oven and prep starts in the wee hours. The pit is dug, fire is lit and river boulders are heat. They must be selected for the shape, able to hold heat and be remove with a shovel (size of a emu egg is just right) The rising steam from the Hāngī is believed to spiritually feed the Matariki stars^^
Type of food for this occasion
Of Earth: Kumara (sweet potatoes) Root vegs, Kamokamo=baby marrow etc Of Sky: Pikopiko (fern fronds) Fruits<-food that reach for the sky when growing etc Of Fresh Water: Watercress, eels, kōura (freshwater crayfish), freshwater mussels etc Of Sea Water: Kiamoana (seafood)
This is always accompanied with lots Rewana (maori sour dough bread) starter is potato water and Boil-up stews^^ Yum! ❤
Kia ora Xing! ^^
Aww is so nice you are interested in my culture and Matariki! Sound it like this Ma tah ree kee. Said quickly Matariki and we rrrrr purr? our R's haha!
Matariki is the star cluster (pleiades) which rises in the east just before dawn here in Aotearoa NZ. Its rising marks the beginning of the new year in the Māori lunar calendar. Maori New Year. Is mid winter celebration. A time to gather for the three core principles, remembrance, celebrating in the now and the promise of the up coming year🌌
thank you I like yours as well, it's always fun to see older wearables like the dress!
sorry for your recent loss I ma also mourning a beloved cat this year. I hope you find peace and comfort soon more than despair and longing.
