honestly, i just applied! my friend worked there and honestly got me an in, but i've been there 8 years and have loved it!
I agree on the job security! I mean even with cremation being more common, there will always be people who want to be embalmed. The college I'm going to is John A. Gupton University in Nashville TN. They actually have an online program, which is what I'm taking while I'm still working at my current job. I'm required to be on campus on in the last semester (mine will be next Fall) which is when we start doing clinicals. Is the funeral home that you work at a smaller family-owned location, or more corporate? Big or small town? Before I decided to take the plunge of going to school, I toured the campus and spoke to the admissions person. One of the questions I asked her was which she preferred working at because it seems like a big difference between the two. I currently have in my head that I'd like to work at a corporate location if I'm able because I'd like to focus on working with my embalming skills. Whereas working at a smaller, family-owned business, she said that you were a lot of different hats.
Sydney, is it? Thanks for reaching out! I've been a little disappointed that my thread hasn't attracted any attention in the forums, but tbh it isn't much of a surprise.. Anywho, so you're in the biz! How long have you worked in in sales at your funeral home? I don't have a lot of inside information since I'm kinda going about this backwards, but I really hope I don't have any trouble actually landing a job once I finish with school.
