Working on site issues - try completely closing and then restarting your browser

We were hoping that deploying more servers would help with some of the caching issues and it's been a partial success, but a new issue of 403 Forbidden pages is popping up for New Subeta. We are still investigating, but we actually think this is related to the SSL certificate update.

The other thing going on is in regards to legacy Subeta and we hope that should be resolved sooner; our SSL certificates (what secures our pages as https) were updating, so if you noticed broken images for legacy items that was the server dropping out while it got resolved. That can be fixed by closing down your browser and re-opening it, which will let your browser re-authenticate the token. If you are having trouble logging back in after you close down your browser completely and restart it, try using Subeta in incognito mode. Some people need it, other people don't, but we are still working on why.

To elaborate on what is going on, SSL certificates are a security measure that basically verify to your browser that the site is what it says it is and that it's actually loading the data from the right source, among other things; it's a very long list. Your browser loads one at the start of the session, and keeps a copy of it at the time. When the SSL certificates updated, they no longer matched what your browser had stored so for your own safety things weren't loading because they didn't match up with what the browser expected. Think of it like an office badge that lets you into a restricted building and then between one day and the next, they change the layout of the badge and need you to turn in the old one before they issue a new one and let you back into the building. Restarting your browser reloads the SSL certificate or, for this analogy, turns in your badge and replaces it with a new one.

I have both of these noted on the Subeta Server Status page (https://subeta.notion.site/Subeta-Server-Status-0c1b07f26d3e4542bd322705d1a41125), although I will be updating it shortly.

It's a less-than-ideal wave of news, we realize, but I did want to let y'all know that Keith is working on it. Thank you to everyone enjoying spooky Subeta content and community!

Morostide Challengers: Wave THREE

Excuse me, these challengers are too terrifying to fight!!!

All Morostide challengers can be found in the 'event' tab. Challengers released this wave: Scary Chairy, Torchbearer, Noflaik, and Devora.

Hello caching, our old friend...

...we've come to talk about it again.

Y'all may have noticed site issues the last few days around the wardrobe and forums, basically the New Subeta side of things. This is because the local cache for the API servers is filling up in a way Keith hasn't really seen before and he still needs to figure out the cause.

The API servers are the servers that convey information between New Subeta and legacy Subeta and their caching is an example of a process meant to make the site faster going too far -- it caches all of the images & avatars as users make them (and also caches a version of each avatar loaded) instead of generating them from scratch. These servers have been up for a little bit, so they've taken on a lot of cached images, and once an event like Morostide hits those caches fill up extra fast.

Keith is spinning up a much bigger web server to handle the load, which as a pro should be taking over by the time this message posts and you should see some improvement. As a con, that much server space and traffic is expensive to upkeep so he's going to keep investigating to figure out something more efficient.

We know this is frustrating, this is a fun time of year and we still have so much planned! We're going to keep working on delivering more treats than tricks, promise.

Trick-or-treat WAVE 2

The final wave for Trick or Treat items is FINALLY HERE.

Just a reminder, for every 5 people to trick or treat at your house, you’ll get an item as well!

Here is a quick link to the Random ToT. This link does expire, and when that happens just hit the "Random Trick or Treat" button on the page and you should be good to go! Random Trick or Treating gives you a shorter wait time of 5 minutes during most of the holiday and 3 minutes on the last day. Regular ToT and Random are on the same timer, so choose wisely.

We have removed all items from before 2021 from the ToT pool, so you should only be getting items from this year and last!
