Vanity is back with 10 new lines! Which is your favorite?

"Dad, dad please look, I want to show you what I've been practicing!" "I don't have time for this Johannes, I have writing to be getting on with." "But please, dad. You played with Sock and Buskin all morning!" "Grooming them isn't playing, but fine. I'll listen to what you have to play for me."

I played the tune, it wasn't perfect, I missed a few notes when Sock knocked something over and bumbled a few more when Buskin tried to rub up against my leg. The felis never seemed to bother father, and he hated that they bothered me. But I was only a boy, and I had tried so hard. I looked up at him with eager expectation: the hope of a hug, a hair ruffle, or even a smile. He had none for me.

"I've listened. You are a distracted boy, Johannes. How can you possibly own the stage if every little thing disturbs you? I expected better. I expect the best, in fact, and I do not think this is the path you should be following. Now leave me, Johannes. I have to work.

Why can't he just be proud of me? Why do the felis make him happier than I ever did? Why am I unable to escape my imperfections? I am so small in front of him. The littlest violinist on the stage, and they will eat me alive.

Johannes has fought all his life to be somebody great, somebody admired. But there was one person he could never win the admiration of. One person that always made him feel like he wasn't good enough, no matter how hard he tried. How he wished to stand up to his father, to not need the validation he craved so much. But the fear was heavy in his chest, and manifested into an ever souring mood and withdrawal from those that might love him over time. The manifestation has grown so strong that it has taken on corporeal form, and must now be defeated!
