Glacier Tigrean Revamp!

The glacier tigrean has a frosty new coat and some sharp new claws, all the better to drag you off to their ice lair with, where they will have you for dinner. Dessert too, if you're polite and tell them how nice dinner was.

Wow Um...can we have an option to have the old one back? I absolutely despise this revamp. My pet "Liger" is my pride and joy...now I'm seriously considering a color change. Though I'm not sure to what-I have almost every color Tigrean already.

I love it! Tigrean is my favorite pet here and the glacier version makes an excellent foil to the reborn version.

I personally love this revamp and hepatitis still keeps his resting bitch face! He looks all grown up now haha! I don't understand people who question anatomy on an animal that literally doesn't exist in the real world? Yes it can draw inspiration from a real animal here on Earth, but it's still a made up animal from a made up planet?

I'm pleased to see the glacier tigrean finally getting the revamp it deserves! The anatomy does look a little on its stretched chest and bulging shoulder but other than that, I think it's a great improvement! To me, the tigrean's expression looks haughty and bitter so fits the colour and pose well. :)

I'm glad you weren't upset as I didn't realize my disappointment came off that way the guitar time imo. I'm going to use the original, it's just so good and the attitude is so great in it, that it was just a surprise to me when it happened. Either way, as someone that isn't an artist, I really do appreciate someone that can create, even if it's a different vision that mine. So that's why I did my other comments, I don't want people feeling discouraged or anything just because of a comment that may have come off wrong. Thank you for seeing the other perspective to this.

I was looking at this and trying to figure out what was bothering me about it... Then I saw the post further down that had the old one posted with the new one and realized it was the backend of the pet that was bothering me. I understand the artist was trying to compensate for the angle but now it just kind of reminds me of the build of a greyhound XD I'll leave it at that as everyone else has already pointed out a few things. It's still a nice upgrade though.

I commend the artist for trying to keep the pose similar to the old one, because people tend to get up in arms if the pose changes too much. But I think here, a different pose might have been the better bullet to bite. Everyone's said what needed to be said.

I kinda wish the canvas space could be increased even by 50 pixels in both directions. We have quite a few large pets, and that 200x200 space is pretty limiting. I personally struggle with it as well, when I do my own overlays.

tbh what you originally wrote really didn’t come off as snippy to me, so please don’t sweat it. :) I drew both versions, so no matter which one people prefer, I get a compliment sort of? haha

I kinda figured there’d be some disappointment on this one, and that’s totally ok! For anybody who wants the old one for an overlay (or wants to customize the old one more easily) you can find the full-size version https://www.deviantart.com/emphasismine/art/Glacier-Tigrean-66223368">here. while I guess this brings it into line with the other Tigrean revamps, my one real concern is that the chest is frikkin massive. On the original, it flows naturally and can see progression around the front, but on this version it comes down past the elbow! Making such a barrel chest it would almost scrape the ground.

It makes it look a bit like a Dolly Parton Tigrean.

I totally thought this was a revamped Archan not a Tigrean. Granted, it doesn't have a mane but I'm getting a lioness vibe off of the art.

I do have to say that the back end looks like a different art piece tacked onto the front.

:o That awkward moment when a revamp makes you realize you never got around to changing your pet's species and color.

yes... what akita said. I'm not pressed abt it, or revolting. I don't want the old image back, personally. I do think there's room for improvement on this revamp and that's all i'm saying. whether it's supposed to have a feline anatomy or not, the anatomy looks wrong, strange, for many reasons. Artists don't need to be protected from constructive criticism, and no one's being rude abt it. (not directing this at anyone in particular, we can all agree to disagree)

p.s. when people say 'xx doesnt look like the species it's based on', it's because we're trying to give a gentle and helpful critique and possibly point the artist in the right direction-which is towards an animal they might reference to help the anatomy, depth, angle, etc. not necessarily because we want, desire or really care if the art in question looks just like the species mentioned species or not.

so i wish people wouldnt get so unpleasant when we're being polite and trying to help our artists develop, especially since there are so many ways to be impolite with critique. 'n'

People talking about how "uncatlike" the revamp is and the previous version is better, as if the original version was the exact copy of a tiger. Plus, it's a fictional animal/pet it has no boundaries or whatsoever on being exactly like some normal big cat.

i believe it's important to point out when anatomy looks incorrect, because no one is perfect and i'm sure whoever the artist is can understand we're not trying to undermine or offend them, but trying to help them improve.

it's me again. i wasnt gonna post bc i think the new art's a major improvement, anatomical errors and all, but a friend feels very strongly abt this pet so here i am.

some major things people are seeing: the shoulders are very un cat-like and seem like the two shoulders are even different than eachother. if you look at big cats, when lounging in a similar pose, their shoulders are hardly even discernable as they sort of merge with the cat's neck, so the front looks like a big blunt triangle. also the foreshortening here seems odd, the booty sticks out too much, the one hock is too long, and the midsection is a bit too curvy. when big cat's lounge their midsections hardly have a shape. ---> remember cats are a liquid so less shape and definition can be a good thing

this is really, not.....as cleaned up as i usually like to make it so i apologize. but here, to give people an idea.

SPOILER (click to toggle) suggestion: have both images open at the same time and go back and forth between tabs to really see the differences.

hope this helps in some way!

I don't think the stomach would look all that odd if the back legs weren't so short. I think the back legs needed to be shortened in order to fit the 200 x 200 square, which is unfortunate as they are now rather flipper like. Over all this is definitely an improvement style wise but the size restriction has forced the anatomy a bit too much. Perhaps if the over all design had been shrunk a bit more and the back legs elongated? Example mash up of the two:

I love this revamp myself. I think the overall look gives it so much for personality. It is less "flat" than the other which shows a progression in the art here. I understand, I think, what people are saying about the tummy part - but it doesn't bother me. Some cats don't have as much run on their belly area as they do on their front parts - so it makes sense to me that the belly is tucked in a little. Especially with the pose - I would think it was a little stretched out anyways (maybe like it's hind legs are a little stretched out behind which would stretch out the tummy making it look more flat/tucked in).

I love the face - he looks so gruff... lol. Kinda like he is wondering why you are bothering him. lol. and those ears - I want to cuddle them.

I adore this revamp. makes a good point, however I disagree with that point. Subeta is its own world, and therefore the species it has should resemble, not be identical to, real life species of pets and animals...I think these changes make the glacier tigrean look more fierce and yet a bit softer. Good job to the artist that did this, and a smile and a quick GET OVER IT to those that oppose it. To each their own, but I love the changes that were made.

this is what I'm planning, just have to get the csc. Idt we can do it without it,I've never done the overlay.

people get attached and that's fine so maybe take a moment to realize that people put a lot of heart into their pets and care and sometimes it's a way for them to distract from daily life that's simple and they fall in love with designs, and there wasn't a heads up (not that there usually is or has to be but saying), so it's a bit of a surprise when it happens and it's not always a good thing.

I think the way it comes off sometimes isn't great (which is why I double posted after realizing how mine could have), but I do think there should be room for disappointment and critique and not having to be happy just because they surprised us. I just think delivery is sometimes something that has to be worked on. I'm def not happy/I'm sad with this revamp, but an edit button would have been cool so I could have backspaced after seeing the final comment. I don't want to run all over someone's creativity through my disappointment.

I gotta say, I like the old version better because it seems more aloof rather than angry/constipated. XD That said, the revamp isn't the worst in the world. It gets a B+/A- from me.

That said, hey subetians: Do you think you can allow people to be disappointed with the revamp? Not everyone has to be positive. This need to smile constantly has been getting grating. Let people have their opinions, please.

The art itself is great--I love the expression too!--but I definitely agree with 's points they brought up. Unless the fur was extremely short in the tigrean's back half, the belly should still be there. Additionally, cats have vestigial pouches (I called them udders before learning the correct term, haha).... While I'm sure the rest of tigrean art, and felis and archans, don't display these pouches at all, this extreme belly tuck is simply more resembling a dog's anatomy, i.e. boxers, greyhounds, etc. and is quite out of place in this scenario.

Here's a very quick MS Paint mouse-drawn example of some added fluff:
