The Wait Is Over! Battle of the Bands Prizes

Hey, darlins! I hope you've been having a great summer since Peka-Boo ended. I was so darn sad when everything was over that I had to make myself busy doing a little charity work. I do love helping other people and making them smile, sometimes being Subeta's favourite starlet just isn't enough for me!

Anyway, back on topic. Johannes is busy back in his shop over in Veta, so I'm here to tell you about the rewards of the Battle of the Bands competition! The prize truck is parked over in Peka Park, come visit it and you'll be awarded a whole bunch of different prizes, based on how you and your chosen band did during the battle! May the odds be ever in your...I mean, good job in taking part and helping to make Peka-Boo amazing!

Late to the comments but just got back from out of town and only just now saw the prizes! Thanks so much for the prizes and the event Subeta, I had a good time! My band didn't make it in, and the one I supported didn't win, but I had fun and I love my prizes! Rock On!!!

Please re-read my original comment. I did NOT say the HnR supporters put in no effort; I actually made no reference to the effort of anyone beyond myself. I do not know all HnR supporters, so I cannot make wild assumptions on their motivations. I can, however, state a fact: that I would have got better prizes for supporting HnR and not putting in effort, than I did for choosing a different band and putting in effort. All that means is that I, personally, one person, now realise that had I simply supported the winning band, I would have received the better prizes. I feel regret that I did not do this. I believe I am allowed to feel regret and disappointment. I also believe that I am allowed to express my feelings.

I take offence to your rudeness. I believe that your comment was directed at something you inferred from my comment; NOT something I stated or even implied. All I said was, "I feel disappointed because I don't feel the prizes I received matched up to the amount of effort I personally put into supporting the band I picked, I wish I'd picked HnR and got better ones". You then made a straw man out of this, reacting as though I had said "HnR supporters put in no effort and deserved nothing". You read into my comment, decided I meant something I did not, and then you decided to attack me for it. The meaning you assigned to my first comment was incorrect, and as such, your personal attack on me was uncalled for. Considering how little of my original comment you actually took the time to comprehend, it is YOURS that made no sense. I am glad to hear you were "controlling your anger and language" when you wrote that, but, unfortunately, a little blind rage slipped out in its place. As for your repeated statement about "people like me"...well, if the alternative is being a person who makes vicious assumptions about someone they do not know and have not taken the time to understand, I think I'll just stick to me.

To quote your own good self, "Do NOT talk about things you know nothing of."

As a sticker collector, I have to stand up for the other sticker collectors. So far Peka-Boo created THREE ultra rare event stickers that are nearly impossible to get. I know rare prizes are wonderful, but maybe make the sticker/plushies not as rare and replace them with wearables, books or weapons?

Stickers, plushies and beanbags all have achievements that are getting harder and harder to attain because of things like this.

The artwork on the [item2=Musical Menagerie Flyer] is outstanding! I couldn't have asked for a better instrument! It is the most beautiful Flemish double harpsichord I have ever seen, even more pretty then the one I spilled a coke in when I was a music major in college. ( needless to say I changed majors..... ) But still Way to go Subeta Team! I love this prize!!

To clarify, I don't mean any ill will to Horns n' Roses at all. If it seemed that way in my posts, I apologize. They won fair and square and deserve the most prizes. I'm just surprised they got everything, including the Granny items, and that the runner-up winners didn't get nearly that much. I do appreciate the personlized Granny items, which other teams didn't get, but I was unclear what was meant by 'runners up' and I guess I was hoping it was more like 'almost a tie' rather than 'second place.' I was wrong, and that's fine, but stepping back I think the Battle of the Bands, and Peek-a-Boo, suffered from high expectations and unclear guidelines. Most of us bankrupted ourselves to buy all the items and participate in the Wishing Tree. I did that last year for the Reading Drive and it was worth it. This summer it was not worth it. Perhaps it's unfair to expect the BofBs prizes to make up for the time and effort (and sP and RL cash) we sunk into this event, but personally I was hoping for more payoff.

Anyway, congratulations to the Horns n' Roses winners. You guys did great and I'm envious, haha. ;)

I can't speak for threads in the last month(because I really only read certain threads on the forums), but this thread of comments at least doesn't read like anyone saying that. /shrug Agree to disagree, I guess.

Yeah, the winners should get more prizes. I think Horns and Roses band members deserved their prizes. However, it seems off that, hypothetically, someone who supported them and did nothing would've gotten more prizes than someone else who put a ton of effort in. Prizes on this site are generally given based on effort, so it should've been obvious that changing that pattern would've left people bitter. Just seems like yet another thing about this event that wasn't planned out well.

"No one is saying that Horns and Roses supporters didn't work for the win". That's exactly what a lot of people have been saying for about a month now, and THAT'S why I'm upset.

And like so perfectly put it, people are missing the point that BotB was a CONTEST. In a contest the winners get more prizes than those who didn't win. That's why they're the winners.

People are just butthurt, plain and simple.

No one is saying that Horns and Roses supporters didn't work for the win. For example, I was playing from mobile at the time, so I couldn't play the game. I got two prizes for supporting a band that didn't win. Had I supported Horns and Roses I would've gotten more prizes for the same amount of effort, which just seems odd. I feel like those who put the most effort into the game should've gotten more prizes, rather than just giving out prizes based on the band you were supporting. Obviously Horns and Roses supporters would've ended up with these prizes, considering the effort put in, but those who were in other bands would've gotten a little more, too. I was a little upset before that there were prizes I missed out on because I couldn't play, but it really seems like it would've been more fair for everybody.

I don't understand all these comments about "jumping on the bandwagon" or not being "rewarded" for voting for the bands they liked. I feel as if everyone has missed the point of a contest where you vote for/support things and then one of them wins because more people voted for/supported it??

I am, however, very surprised that H&R supporters got EVERYTHING. H&R swag, sure. But I didn't expect the Granny Smith items, plushies, etc...

And it's people like you who make me want to seriously snap... REALLY controlling my anger and my language right now for the sake of Subeta's rules. Horns and Roses won because their supporters played Street Team almost until their fingers bled. What you said doesn't even make sense. Horns and Roses won BECAUSE of all the effort put into them. Do NOT talk about things you know nothing of. It's people like you, man.

I..just...I feel like a real idiot... I picked the band I liked most, and put effort into supporting them...and it wasn't worth it at all ;-; It's been said before, but it really sucks that I would have earned more/ better prizes by just clicking 'support' for HnR and then doing nothing to actually support them, than I did putting in that effort...

I appreciate the effort and time the staff put into events! I do. Please keep doing them, they're (usually :P) awesome. But unfortunately, I just feel as though I wasted my time participating in this one :(

After reading some of the earlier comments on this news post, I just want to say it's about time the butthurt stopped. This Horns & Roses hate is ridiculous. It's been a month; get over it. (This is not aimed at all the awesome bands who didn't win, but rather at SOME of their sore losers immature supporters). People complaining that it's not fair because they joined a band they liked instead of "the winners", I'm like, are you for real? Everyone who supported Horns & Roses did so because they liked the band, not because they were all frickin' clairvoyant and knew H&R would win. As stated before, H&R weren't even the band with the biggest amount of supporters so stop being childish about it and stop whining already.

With that off my chest, these prizes are SO awesome! <3

so after some thought and conversations with friends about this here is my feedback since it won't let me submit it:

Prizes should've been given out in a tiered setting ie;

  1. Grand Prize Winner
  2. Genre Winner
  3. Genre Finalists
  4. Participation prize for everyone who created or joined a band
  5. Supporters

The granny smiths were cute, but they still came in 2nd place. As cute as the items are in real life 2nd place is still "losing". It makes it look like a small fragment of favoritism when only one "2nd" place winner was made items and the rest of the genre first place winners weren't. They were in the same category as HnR so therefore they didn't win their genre. Otherwise all the other genres should've been created a specific item as well. Heck, Make them a simple music CD with their album art. Its literally a 64x64 icon and a nice tribute to the winners of their genres that made things worth their time. Put it for sale in the music shop from time to time as a r99 so that players could eventually earn it. Also give a copy to all the supporters of that specific band. If you didn't win the genre, you don't get a CD. simple as that. Its a nice tribute for their efforts and its fair.

I'm not saying supports should've of gotten anything but I do think that those players who spent time promoting themselves, joining a band, and really trying to get out there and get supports should've been given more than a bowl of candy and a book. Maybe for those who didn't get into the finals could've been given the candy bowl and book as a "thanks for trying" effort prize and then given the 30 finalists something more... worth their time? Supporters should've been on a point system as well. I think everything by points would've been better in the long run over all because of the fact that points can't lie. They can't play favorites (in a sense) and then everyone would be able to be fairly awarded for their effort.

Then there should've been a tiered point system for street team. Give everyone who scored 10 points a poster. Give everyone who scored over 100 a set of wearable buttons and previous item. next level 500 points- give them a plushie. Finally if you scored over 1000 give the players a wearable street team game background.

It literally took me 5 minutes to come up with all of those prize ideas and they still related to the game. They could've been achievements as well since games like spectrum trails has a points system. Also, street team shouldn't of been the ONLY game to play to gain points. It wasn't a game that all players could play. Mobile users were SOL (we had quite a few supporters that were ONLY mobile)

Also, VIP members... we paid $2.50 for "exclusive items" that were tossed into the donation corner 10 minutes after it was released (by yes, nice users but hear me out) and less wait time to buy food- that was STILL 45 minutes between each purchase. None of the other shops in peka-boo were that way? Why do that? No one waits that long for food unless your Gordan Ramsey in a episode of Kitchen Nightmare! LOL. but in all seriousness I wouldn't spend the extra RL $ for VIP again. There wasn't any incentives to it and I really thought it would be more "VIP" as it was advertised. Lots of hype over it with an extreme let down for us who purchased VIP tickets.

Lets talk about the wishing shrub. Price cap it. Limit it to how many people can wish for the same item. Things got super greedy and instead of wishing for cheaper items that ALL players could afford, things were in the MILLIONS everyday hogging it all up. There are lots of newer/less wealthy users here who don't have the time to sit and quest all day long. I know people will disagree with this but it wasn't really "wishing" it was "greed hoarding". People would nab the "cheap" wishes and then ask for something that was 20mil and whine about it in the SB or on the forums when no one granted their wish. It was a good concept, but I really wish it was done differently. Maybe wishing shrub should've been random. Put a price cap (lets say 5 mil) then when you want to ask for an item you click on 'Grant a wish" and an item is randomly shown to you. if you can't grant it, then no wish (as was with this version). One wish, One grant a day. No greed, no picking and choosing. You have the whole day to grant the wish and if not it resets at the end of the night or you can cancel it, but not continue to gift all day. Its more like blind trading... wishing shrub had good intentions but bad usage- I hope it returns, but as a good way not a bad one.

This is really long but since i can't submit feedback anywhere else I thought this made the most sense.

Personally, I think some extra items should have been made for the band members in bands that made it into the final, and there should have been more prizes for those that founded a band. I'm not saying that supporters shouldn't have got the prizes they did (as the supporters put so much work into helping their bands, and it was amazing ❤) but it feels like this could put people off making/joining a band if this event happens again, as they didn't really get any extra prizes for the extra effort of putting a group together. But that's just my opinion. The prizes that have been made are lovely though ❤

According to this:

supporters of the Granny Apples only get two items, just like the genre winners, even though we were runners-up (practically tied with first place). I'm really unhappy that the winners get everything while we only get two items. I appreciate the Granny items (they're really cool!) but that just seems really unfair.

The prizes I got were lovely (the Granny Smiths items were AWESOME) but I'm disappointed that as a very close runner-up we didn't get most of the winning prizes, too. It was almost a tie, was it not? I wasn't sure what exactly you guys meant by "runner up" but I'm guessing judging by the prizes you guys meant something more like 'a distant second.'

I'm just sad that supporters of H&R who just clicked the button to support got everything (probably not the team street score based items, but still lots of items just to click a button), while who played the game during hours to make the higher scores (and weren't on H&R or any winning band) got no plushies or flyers. I know it'd be really hard to make lots of prize tiers like that, I really do, so I'm not really mad about this. But what made me madder was the SIX prizes for H&R, and all of them are awesome. Those wearables... 3 or 4 prizes would be enough. But well, let's see if any kind soul put those H&R and flyers on the shops for 30m at least e_e
