Help Japan: Single Paper Crane

As you may have heard over the weekend, Japan suffered a major earthquake, and one of strongest in recorded history. Relief efforts are ongoing, as waves continue to hit throughout the country, making rescue and recovery difficult. Our hearts go out to all of our Japanese users, as well as the citizens of Japan coping with this difficult time.

I know times are hard for everyone right now, but if you'd like to assist with relief efforts, you can text the letters REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation, or by going to the Red Cross website. Other organizations are also joining the efforts in Japan, and every little bit helps.

The item at the top of this post is the new Free Gift. ❤

Thank you for this. The worst part about this is that the earthquake and tsunami have spiked off another problem: the nuclear reactors on Japan are exploding, so citizens and volunteers are in danger of radiation poisoning. It really is just one blow after another. Luckily, none of the students at my school have been directly affected, but my thoughts are with everyone who has been. May the victims rest in peace, and I wish the survivors all the luck in the world in recovering from this tremendous disaster.

P.S. I especially like the free gift. The paper crane has always been associated with peace and healing in Japan especially, so it is fitting to have it as a reminder for us here, safe in our own homes.

It was only a matter of time till this reached Subeta.

There are some Japanese exchange students at my school, and it's great comfort to hear from them when they tell me their families are okay.

I'm not religious, and I don't have money, so I can't pray nor donate, but I will keep Japan in my thoughts and hope that these disasters will stop.

IN OTHER NEWS, other than Japan. The surrounding islands were also greatly effected, and I don't see anyone helping them -shakes head-

Thank you for this Subeta, from the bottom of my heart.

I have already spend money through livejournals to the red cross and I really pray and hope that most of the people (regarding the atomic crisis) can be saved... that was the darkest day japan could have... I feel so sorry for the people there and I wish I could help more

You worded your post much better than I ever can. xD You see, that's exactly what I mean!! It's nice to spread awareness and such, and it IS really tragic, but some people just can't afford to donate, and yet it's mentioned on every website they frequent, trying to get people to donate when some just can't. Plus there ARE plenty more problems in the world that need funds aswell, not just this one. I guess it's just 'cause of the scale of it, and such.

If you cannot donate money I implore you to donate blood. Right now, as far as US statistics, only 3% of eligible donors do so. One pint can save up to 3 lives. And it's free!

I was hoping this would be done, like it was for Hatti. I know of three different families who live there and fortunately none of them were affected. I'll be donating through a different organization though, because the money will get there faster than with any other company as it goes directly into a Japanese bank account >.< I pass all my love to those in Japan and I wish you all good fortune :)

I'm glad the awareness is there but I wish Subeta (and others) would stop pushing donate by text so much. There are a lot of scams related to it and depending on your carrier and plan sometimes the phone companies make quite a bit of money off of it on top of forcing the charities to pay more overhead to process the donations and wait longer for their money.

It's quick and easy, and the only way some people can donate, but the system still has a long way to go. Thanks for at least including the links as well, too many people just push the 'text' with no alternatives.

Posting from Japan:

Thank you Keith, for the beautiful item and for calling attention to this terrible real life tragedy. Myself and my loved ones are living in Okinawa and thankfully have not been directly affected by the earthquake/tsunami/ongoing situation, but I pray every day for the people on the mainland. I echo your encouragement for people to make a donation, even a small one, and pray for the people who lost their homes and loved ones, and for a speedy recovery.

Love from Okinawa, Japan

Then that's your opinion, and that's fine. shrugs I guess I'm just not as soft as most other people. I care mostly about the wellfare of animals in the world, to be honest. That doesn't mean I don't care about people, though!! Don't get me wrong. Like I said it IS tragic, and I do feel sorry for them.

what kind of cold makes one ignorant? sorry, but... I just can't fathom how anyone can be so dismissive, when hearing about this on-going disaster. this really isn't the place to be sharing your complaints.

Oh lord. Listen, lemme reword my post before you guys continue to go off on one:

There are PLENTY of problems in the world, okay? This is just one.. Sure it's tragic and all, and you can't help but feel sorry for them, but I don't need it shoved in my face 24/7. And when did I say it was an inconvience to me? lol. Probably shoulda worded my post like this from the beginning. Sorry for offending you guys. You can stop ganging up now. :) I am unwell with a cold, so I'm not thinking 100% straight.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by FAKE

when you catch a fluke, when you broke a leg, when you are hungry, is that's because nature is acting. If you don't search for a cure (going to a hospital, eating something), then, you better die because "is against the nature"? Of course there's nothing we can do to stop earthquakes, but at least we can help the people who's suffering right now, traped, starving, scared. Helping others is our human nature.

seriously? just keep those thoughts to yourself. people have lost their lives, whole towns have been wiped out. families, friends & pets are missing, homes destroyed, all their belongings gone... then there is the radiation leaks, which is a global concern. but wait, WE'RE sorry it's an inconvenience to you.

December 31, 1969, 7:00 pm by Fray

lol, I knew I'd get comments like this. It's an opinion, folks.. don't you have them?? Nature works like this all the time. There's nothing we can do about it. xD

Thanks for the free gift, and it's great you post about rl issues, but..

Not more about japan. .-. Don't mean to be shallow, but, honestly, I don't need it mentioned about it on every website I'm on, since, really, it doesn't concern me at all. xD But that's just me, ya know.. I believe that us, the people, are in the way of nature, and that disasters like this are completely natures way of reminding us that's the earth is much more powerful than us.

Still.. thanks anyway.
