Help Japan: Single Paper Crane

As you may have heard over the weekend, Japan suffered a major earthquake, and one of strongest in recorded history. Relief efforts are ongoing, as waves continue to hit throughout the country, making rescue and recovery difficult. Our hearts go out to all of our Japanese users, as well as the citizens of Japan coping with this difficult time.

I know times are hard for everyone right now, but if you'd like to assist with relief efforts, you can text the letters REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation, or by going to the Red Cross website. Other organizations are also joining the efforts in Japan, and every little bit helps.

The item at the top of this post is the new Free Gift. ❤

We'll all praying for everyone in Japan.

Once I get the guts to get blood taken out, I will just for the people who are suffering.

I hope Japan pulls through this horrible event.

Thank you Keith, and staff, for presenting this kind of an issue again. I remember when you did it with Haiti, and I thought it was beautiful then. But I think it's even more beautiful now. Thank you for that. We are thinking of you, Japan, in your time of need. ❤

This is a nice item to show our support. Thanks for make it subeta. I can't do a big donation, but anything is better than nothing. And who can't donate, just pray for them. They need our support in moments like this.

We watched videos about it in class and this little prick goes " what am i gonna do without new ipods?" the teachers flipped but didn't send him out. then we watched a video a little boy frozen in fear in front of the massive wave. he only moved when it was too late and the little jerk pipes up and says ' oh,look, he's going surfing!". people make me sick. when i told others of his horrible comments i was surprised at how many people in my school did NOT care about japan. one girl even said they deserve it for killing whales. it made me sick.People in general make me sick. my heart (and soon my money) goes out to those poor souls in japan.

By nature, I'm usually not too effected by these kind of things(maybe it just doesn't tend to sink in), but when I saw this on the news it literally hurt.

Thank you for showing you care, Subeta.

The people of Japan have my thoughts, love and hope.

I agree with Flux, I think she's got a good idea. I would happily buy CSC now instead of waiting for "sales" knowing part of the money would go to Japan.

The crane is a nice idea though and it's better than nothing.

I'm participating on the LJ charity auctions to raise money :(

One of my favorite Hetalia fanartists lives in the prefecture closest to the quake. I hope she made it out okay. There's several other people I've met on the internet who live near where the quake struck.

I would donate to Japan but, I live in Christchurch and we have been having aftershocks since September last year and we recently had that really shallow earthquake. Sorry Japan.

Sadly, cannot donate money nor blood. Am trying my best to help sharing the information and awareness across the internet though ... hopefully it will help, even if a little bit.

So sad :( I was so shocked while I watched it on TV happening. I couldn't think of anything but oh my heck! I'm so sorry for the people that have lost loved ones and friends. As soon as I heard how we could donate, I did it right away. They need all the help they can get.

Beautiful. But I'd rather be over there helping people, not spreading what little money I have to an organisation I'm not 100% sure is going to take care of it the way I intend to.

Everyone is in my thoughts and prayers. Each adult in my family donated $50 to the Red Cross and/or Doctors Without Borders. I know it's not a lot, but at least it's something. :c

Oh - I wish I could edit my last post.

I'd like to make a clarification:

Text message donations may not be sent to Japan until after your next cellphone billing cycle is completed - a process that can take up to 90 days.

When I saw the video clips on the news, I started bawling. My heart and prayers go out to any of those affected by this disaster, and I wish everyone with lost or hurt family members all the luck in the world. I'd be so devastated if this happened to me or my loved ones, and I'll be praying for a fast recovery for Japan tonight.

Be aware - A little controversy is stirring about text message donations being sent to Japan. Apparently, certain carriers like Verizon and AT&T will wait up to 90 days to transfer funds to the areas where they are desperately needed. Obviously, that time frame can make a considerable difference.

The same situation happened after the Haiti earthquake, but these carriers came through and changed the policy for those donations. Right now, petitions are circulating attempting to get major cellphone carriers to make the aid donations a priority, so I wouldn't completely rule out donation via text message.

I just thought I'd throw that out there, since major cellphone carriers do not make a habit of releasing such important information.

All of those charities are set up to take money and put it to the right use. That's all a CS item would do, is us take the money (and paypal take a share of it, and then us have to put some towards administrative charges) and then give that money to charity.

It doesn't make sense for us to handle charitable contributions. It just doesn't.

Thanks subeta. It's a beautiful and meaningful item and a amazingly nice gesture your doing.

People are moved since subeta douse try hard to raise awareness about most natural disasters. Like hatie and japan. Besides why donate money to subeta for subeta to send it to charity ( a non charitable site when paypal takes some of the proceeds sellers make) when you can donate strait to the relief bypassing the middle mam and help the people directly without loosing money in the middle.

Thank Subeta. Really. My roomate is from Japan and she acts like the earthquake is no big deal. But once she saw the pictures and the news she reacted. Everyone is praying for the people there. We are donating so much, but thank you for raising awareness. A few people act like it's not a big deal, but it is.

I think this is lovely, but Sebeta could do so much more without much effort on it's part =/ They could say that even 1% of this months CS sales go to Japan and do a sale or something, or create a new CS item/unretired the Oriental trunk or something I don't know. It's nice that they're addressing the issue but I don't understand the singing praises when all they've really done is tell us about something we already know with an item that doesn't help. I sound harsh and I really don't mean to, I'm just always disappointed Subeta doesn't do more when it could really help.

I'm very glad Japan was as prepared as it was for this event, but even so, it's been devastating ... I can't even imagine an 8.9 earthquake. I've donated through my school, and I hope relief efforts are able to save lots more people! ❤️

Like so many others here, I will say that this is the reason I love Subeta. You're so compassionate, and have respect for real world events. I already donated via text with the permission of my mother, and my only regret is that we cannot give up more to help those who are in need during this time of great loss.

Thoughts and prayers with Japan and all the people around the world affected by this disaster.
